|---|---|---|
| Newly ascended god — Asura God King | 2 | Has already attained God King status when the heavenly screen appears. His exact numerical Soul Power Level is not stated. |
Background / History
Tang San came to the Douluo Continent with memories of a previous life. He regarded that knowledge as an advantage in his growth, but initially failed to connect White Impermanence with the myths he remembered. The Underworld’s appearance eventually forced him to reconsider how much of those legends might be real 3 7 8.
As a central figure of the Shrek Seven Devils, he helped lead the group to divine ascension and participated in Spirit Hall’s destruction. Bibi Dong died at his hands during the conflict at Jialing Pass. Bibi Dong later attributes her defeat partly to Qian Renxue’s retreat and Tang San’s sneak attack 1 3 15.
Appearance
- Blue eyes, specifically noted when he reacts to Yue Guan’s God King-level strength 5.
- Blood-red divine radiance surrounds him when he releases Asura Divine Power; this combines with deep-blue Sea God’s Light when he borrows Xiao Wu’s power 12 14.
Personality
Tang San is proud of his God King status and highly sensitive to challenges against his authority. He initially treats the heavenly screen as an intrusion on his territory, then accepts it once Dai Mubai suggests that its ranking could benefit him. Yue Guan’s divine ascension provokes jealousy, while public ridicule during their duel drives him to attack without restraint 2 3 14.
He is also pragmatic and capable of changing tactics after failure. His defeat by Yue Guan makes him acknowledge that neither he nor the Divine Realm is invincible. Rather than abandon the conflict, he seeks outside expertise, stronger alliances, and time to recover 18 23 25.
His determination to preserve the Divine Realm’s influence increasingly overrides moral concerns. Although he knows that many nobles have committed serious crimes, he plans to protect and recruit them for their resources. When Xiao Wu questions this choice, he insists that stopping the Underworld must come first 40 41.
The prospect of being judged himself exposes a deeper fear of losing control. Meng Po Soup’s ability to erase memories provokes an unusually frantic outburst in which he rejects anyone’s right to judge him 44.
Abilities & Skills
Asura Divine Power
Tang San wields the slaughter-associated power of the Asura God King 12 14.
- Releases scarlet killing intent and divine pressure powerful enough to distort the space inside the Asura God Temple 5.
- Channels divine power through the Asura Sacred Sword, producing sword strikes that tear spatial rifts and sword Qi capable of splitting mountains 14.
- Can destroy the forms of Yue Guan’s summoned Yin spirits, but cannot easily stop the nether power accompanying them 15.
- Remains vulnerable to Underworld Yin Qi, which corrodes his divine power, disrupts its circulation, and causes pain even to his God King-level body 14 15.
Borrowed Sea God Divine Power
During his fight with Yue Guan, Tang San borrows Sea God Divine Power from Xiao Wu and combines it with his Asura power 14.
- Blends deep-blue Sea God’s Light with blood-red Asura Divine Power to increase his offensive force 14.
- Does not overcome Yue Guan’s defenses or prevent his eventual defeat 14 15.
Divine Perception and Cross-Realm Travel
Tang San can extend his awareness and move between the Divine Realm and Douluo Star 12 18.
- Scans the heavenly screen with divine power, but cannot detect its power source or determine its nature 2.
- Descends to Douluo Star as a streak of blood-red light. The planet’s suppression of Divine Realm gods is insufficient to prevent his journey 12.
- Sends divine sense across space toward Shrek Academy when arranging to bring Yu Xiaogang into the Divine Realm 18.
Previous-Life Knowledge
His memories provide information about Underworld figures and institutions absent from his companions’ understanding 7 19 20.
- Recognizes White Impermanence through the mourning robes, inscribed tall hat, and Mourning Staff 7 8.
- Warns the Shrek Seven Devils never to enter the Eighteen Levels of Hell on their own 20.
- Connects Hell Judge Zhong Tian’s name and soul-devouring abilities with legends of Zhong Kui, without claiming to know Zhong Tian personally 27.
- Explains the legendary purpose of Meng Po Soup: erasing past-life memories and releasing obsessions before reincarnation 42.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Asura Sacred Sword — His principal weapon in the confrontation with Yue Guan. He summons it from within the Asura God Temple and channels blood-red divine power through its blade. Yue Guan’s Mourning Staff can block it directly, while Yin Qi spreads along the sword and corrodes its power 12 14.
Relationships
- Xiao Wu — His longtime partner and strongest emotional support. She lends him Sea God Divine Power, helps rescue him, and treats his injuries. Although she questions protecting criminal nobles, she ultimately stops arguing against his plan 14 15 20 41.
- Yu Xiaogang — His teacher. Tang San brings him into the Divine Realm in hopes that his Martial Soul research can expose weaknesses in Underworld power 18 22.
- Dai Mubai — A staunch supporter who defends Tang San’s standing, joins his rescue, and endorses recruiting nobles against the Underworld 2 3 15 41.
- Oscar, Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ma Hongjun — Fellow Shrek Seven Devils. Their reactions to the Underworld differ, but all intervene when Tang San faces death at Yue Guan’s hands 3 5 15.
- Yue Guan — Former Spirit Hall enemy and the opponent who defeats him after becoming White Impermanence. Tang San’s attempt to test his strength becomes a public humiliation 12 14 15.
- Bibi Dong — An enemy whom Tang San killed. Her return as the level-156 Meng Po creates both a renewed personal threat and a challenge to his understanding of divine authority 1 41 42 44.
- Qian Renxue — A surviving Spirit Hall adversary who reacts with renewed hatred upon seeing him fight Yue Guan 13.
- Qian Daoliu — Resents Tang San’s role in Spirit Hall’s destruction and celebrates his defeat by Yue Guan 12 15.
- Destruction God King — Regards Tang San’s difficulties with satisfaction and sees the conflict as an opportunity to reassess his abilities 21.
- Chen Yuan — The Great Emperor of Fengdu, whose expanding Underworld Tang San seeks to oppose. Chen Yuan openly enjoys watching his defeat 15 41.
Story Role / Major Arcs
The Heavenly Screen and Spirit Hall’s Survival
- Tang San is gathered with the newly ascended Shrek Seven Devils in the Asura God Temple when the heavenly screen appears. His inability to investigate it frustrates him, though his companions initially expect him to rank among its strongest gods 2.
- Yue Guan’s appearance as White Impermanence reveals that Spirit Hall’s former members may survive in another form. Tang San responds with resentment and agrees with Xiao Wu that they can destroy Spirit Hall again 3 6.
- Learning that tenth-ranked Yue Guan is already level 150 and God King-level undermines his confidence. Recognizing the Underworld from previous-life legends turns that disbelief into fear 5 7 8.
- He studies Yue Guan’s rewards and suspects that permission to travel freely to Douluo Star removes an earlier restriction on Underworld gods. Xiao Wu encourages him to unite the Divine Realm in response 9.
Defeat at Spirit City’s Ruins
- Tang San descends with the Asura Sacred Sword to test Yue Guan personally. His arrival reassures factions that still regard the Divine Realm as their protection against Spirit Hall’s return 12.
- The encounter escalates into an attempt to kill Yue Guan publicly and reassert the Divine Realm’s authority. Tang San commits his full strength and borrows Xiao Wu’s Sea God Divine Power 14.
- Yue Guan blocks his attacks and corrodes his divine power, then feigns retreat. Tang San mistakes this for weakness and exhausts himself pursuing an apparent victory 14 15.
- Yue Guan counterattacks with a nether domain and summoned Yin spirits, strikes Tang San in the chest, and leaves him gravely wounded. The other six Shrek members descend and form protective barriers around him, allowing his rescue 15.
Recovery and Yu Xiaogang’s Recruitment
- Back in the Asura God Temple, lingering Underworld power continues to erode Tang San’s meridians whenever he circulates divine power 18.
- He decides that Yu Xiaogang’s theoretical knowledge may help counter the Underworld and secures his companions’ agreement to bring their teacher into the Divine Realm. The transfer is subsequently completed 18 22.
- Black Impermanence’s abilities and the revelation of the Eighteen Levels of Hell deepen his caution. He shifts his immediate priorities toward recovery, reassessing their strength, and building alliances rather than another reckless confrontation 20 23 25.
Recruiting Nobles Against the Underworld
- As Zhong Tian exposes and punishes corrupt nobles, Tang San identifies their fear as a recruitment opportunity. He hopes to gain their wealth, retainers, and connections to empires and sects 32 40 41.
- Public exposure of the nobles’ crimes enrages him because it wins popular support for the Underworld and weakens the Divine Realm’s mortal influence 38 40.
- He proposes saving nobles before they face judgment so that gratitude and fear will bind them to his faction. Their guilt is deliberately deferred as an issue to address after the Underworld is defeated 41.
- Xiao Wu raises concerns about both justice and the Divine Realm’s reputation. Tang San argues that preventing Chen Yuan’s expansion takes priority; Dai Mubai supports him 41.
Meng Po’s Revelation
- Bibi Dong’s appearance as seventh-ranked Meng Po forces Tang San to reconsider his plans. Her level-156 strength is alarming, but her authority over memory and reincarnation concerns him beyond ordinary combat power 41 42.
- The possibility of losing his memories or facing Underworld judgment triggers a furious rejection of anyone’s authority over him 44.
- He continues to regard the Underworld’s expanding order as a threat to the Divine Realm’s foundations on Douluo Star. Meanwhile, Yu Xiaogang begins acting on his earlier arrangements 46.
