Background / History
Bo Saixi was destined from birth to become the Sea God’s representative. As a child, she sometimes sneaked away to catch small Sea Soul Beasts; the Sacred Pillar elders punished her by making her stand beside the Sea God Pillar. After becoming High Priestess, she remained on the island, watching her master grow old and successive generations of Sacred Pillar elders come and go 82 156.
Her office carried a fatal obligation: the Sea God’s Ninth Trial required the High Priestess to sacrifice her life and Soul Power to open the inheritance gate. Bo Saixi knew this would be her eventual fate and regarded it as her duty, despite wishing to continue living 81 82.
During an earlier visit by Qian Daoliu and Tang Chen, she met Gu Linchuan and Shen Suwei. She became close friends with Shen Suwei, while neither man’s romantic interest was reciprocated. Nearly ten years passed between the friends’ parting and their reunion when Shen Suwei brought Gu Wuchen to Sea God Island 79 88 105.
Appearance
Bo Saixi has snow-white hair, dark blue eyes, and a face bearing traces of age. Her formal appearance is dignified and sacred, accompanied by a restrained but awe-inspiring divine presence 79.
- Priestly clothing: A floor-length sea-blue dress; she also wears blue-and-moon-white formal attire 79 90.
- Private clothing: Loose moon-white loungewear or a moon-white gauze gown, with her long hair loosely pinned up 82 155.
- Distinguishing features: Fine lines at the corners of her eyes become more noticeable—and gentler in appearance—without her formal makeup 82.
Personality
Bo Saixi’s composure rests on a strong sense of duty. She knowingly brings Gu Wuchen to the Sea God Trial even though his eventual succession would originally have required her death. She is also capable of acknowledging her mistakes: she openly admits that his talent surpasses her own at the same age, and later accepts his criticism of her impulsive behavior 79 81 117.
Away from her office, she is curious, playful, and attentive. Continental scenery, street food, and city entertainments fascinate her. She teases Gu Wuchen, prepares food for him, and looks after him during his periods of exhaustion 84 85 96 102.
Her growing attachment to him exposes insecurities hidden beneath her priestly authority. She fears failing Sea God Island, never seeing its god’s successor, and becoming unnecessary after Gu Wuchen ascends. Her jealousy frequently draws her into arguments with the Snow Empress and Ice Empress, although her concern for the Ice Empress’s apparent impending death is genuine 126 151 156.
Abilities & Skills
Peerless Douluo Cultivation
Bo Saixi stands among the continent’s three Peerless Douluos, alongside Qian Daoliu and Tang Chen 79 100.
- Overwhelming pressure: Repels Tang Hao when he attacks Gu Wuchen, sending him flying dozens of meters. A further release of pressure shakes nearby trees and cracks the ground 134 135.
- Soul Beast suppression: Keeps surrounding Soul Beasts away while traveling through the Sunset Forest 99.
- Subjugating powerful prey: Overcomes the hundred-thousand-year Violent Thunder Fierce Tiger after Yu Luomian and Liu Erlong struggle against it, leaving Yu Luomian to deliver the final blow 141.
Sea God Power
As the Sea God’s representative, Bo Saixi can draw upon his power 83 111.
- Ocean advantage: Shen Suwei states that the Snow Empress and Ice Empress together far surpass Bo Saixi on land, but that drawing upon the Sea God’s power over the ocean might allow her to contend with them 83.
- Divine manifestation: A faint golden light and the Sea God’s power appear around her when she prepares to confront the Snow Empress 111.
- Signaling: Sends pale golden light through the sea to summon Xiao Bai and the Demon Soul Great White Sharks 154.
Trial Administration
Bo Saixi oversees Gu Wuchen’s Sea God Trials and directs the island’s Sacred Pillar Guardians 81 154.
- Activates the Sea God Pillar to display trial requirements 154 158.
- Explains later trials and prescribes recovery time before Tidal Body Tempering 155.
- Monitors Gu Wuchen’s training and channels gentle Soul Power into him to help heal his injuries 158.
Equipment / Items
- Scepter: Carries a scepter as High Priestess; she throws it aside to embrace Gu Wuchen after learning that he has saved her from sacrifice 81.
- Sea Dew Wine: A wine unique to Sea God Island that she privately drinks to unwind. Gu Wuchen is the first person she tells about this habit 155.
Relationships
- Gu Wuchen — Her honorary nephew through her friendship with his mother, the Sea God’s inheritor, and the person she falls in love with. Their bond is not presented as a blood relationship 79 88 157.
- Shen Suwei — Close friend whom she calls her “good sister.” Shen Suwei encourages her to travel with Gu Wuchen and act as his bodyguard 79 82.
- Sea God — The deity she represents and whose inheritance she guards. Her original sacrificial obligation is removed through Gu Wuchen’s negotiations with him 80 81 82.
- Snow Empress — Fellow protector of Gu Wuchen and a persistent rival for his attention. Their arguments repeatedly require his intervention 108 109 116.
- Ice Empress — Another rival who enjoys provoking her. Bo Saixi nevertheless becomes distressed when she believes the Ice Empress’s sacrifice will destroy her soul 126 151.
- Qian Daoliu — Fellow Peerless Douluo and former admirer whose affection she never returned. They later support Gu Wuchen’s appointment as Spirit Hall’s Holy Son 88 90.
- Tang Chen — Former admirer whom she also did not reciprocate. She later learns that he has become the King of Slaughter under the Nine-Headed Bat King’s possession 105 117.
- Bibi Dong — Clashes with her when Bibi Dong challenges Gu Wuchen’s appointment as Holy Son 90.
- Xiao Bai and the Sacred Pillar Guardians — Island defenders who recognize her authority and assist with transport and the Sea God Trials 81 154.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Securing the Sea God’s Successor
When Gu Wuchen first visits Sea God Hall, Bo Saixi worries that his parents’ indulgence may have led him to neglect cultivation. His five Soul Rings—including a hundred-thousand-year fifth ring—dispel that concern. After learning that he already possesses the Ice God’s inheritance, she insists that he attempt the Sea God Trial as well 79.
She personally brings the reluctant Gu Wuchen to the Sea Horse Sacred Pillar. His selection for the Sea God Nine Trials overwhelms her with excitement, both because the Sea God has gained a successor and because accompanying him could give her a reason to leave the island 80.
Release from Sacrifice and Departure
Gu Wuchen negotiates with the Sea God to replace the Ninth Trial’s sacrificial requirement. When he tells Bo Saixi, she embraces him in tears and offers to reward him. His casual request for a massage becomes an opportunity for her to hear about the world beyond Sea God Island 80 81 82.
After Gu Wuchen completes his First Sea God Trial, she leaves with him and his parents under the justification of protecting the inheritor. The journey introduces her to the Far North’s aurora, roadside sweets, and the Gu Clan’s estate and businesses 84 85.
Protector on the Continent
| Event | Bo Saixi’s involvement |
|---|---|
| Gu Wuchen becomes Holy Son | Confirms his dual divine inheritance and backs his appointment against Bibi Dong’s objections 90. |
| Holy Soul Village and Sunset Forest | Accompanies him to Ah Yin’s hidden cave and then to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 98 99. |
| First visit to Heaven Dou City | Explores shops and street performances with him, enjoying candied hawthorns before staying at his residence 102. |
| Ice God’s First Trial | Waits outside the sealed trial ground and speaks with the Ice God about Gu Wuchen and her release from sacrifice 108 109. |
| Ah Yin’s restoration | Guards the valley while Gu Wuchen and the two empresses help Ah Yin recover 130. |
| Blue Silver Forest confrontation | Stops Tang Hao’s attack and helps force him to retreat without Ah Yin, preventing Tang San’s planned awakening 134 135. |
| Violent Thunder Fierce Tiger hunt | Subdues the beast so Yu Luomian can obtain its hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring 141. |
Confession to Gu Wuchen
After returning to Sea God Island, Bo Saixi invites Gu Wuchen to her chambers and shares Sea Dew Wine with him. She asks him not to dispel the alcohol with Soul Power and confides the loneliness and fear attached to her position. She kisses him while they are drunk, and they fall asleep together; his hurried departure the following morning leaves her hurt 155 156.
Worried that the encounter has permanently damaged their bond, she privately confesses her love. She explains that he has given her a reason to live beyond guarding the inheritance, but promises not to demand an immediate answer 157.
Gu Wuchen subsequently clarifies that he has not rejected her; he is uncomfortable with the sentimental confession and asks to take things slowly. She agrees, and the tension between them disappears 158.
Return to Island Duties
Bo Saixi supervises Tidal Body Tempering and congratulates Gu Wuchen when he completes it in eight months. When he prepares to leave, she remains behind, explaining that the island’s affairs and Sacred Pillar elders still require her attention 158 159.
Later, Gu Wuchen tells Bibi Dong that Bo Saixi has agreed to Sea God Island joining the proposed Mortal World Federation, provided the island is not required to send troops into continental civil wars 170.
