Background and History
Life in the Far North
The Ice Empress and Snow Empress had lived together for more than ten thousand years and built a palace from ten-thousand-year-old ice. Ice-type Soul Beasts respectfully lower their heads when the two pass 109.
Despite her long cultivation, the Ice Empress still faces heavenly tribulations. Gu Wuchen identifies her approaching 400,000-year tribulation as a danger that his proposed God-Making Plan could help her avoid 20.
Meeting Gu Wuchen
The Ice Empress first encounters Gu Wuchen while he is absorbing his Second Soul Ring. Initially jealous that the Snow Empress has slipped away to accompany a human child, she becomes intrigued after sensing the extreme cold within him 19.
Gu Wuchen explains that she and the Snow Empress could become his Soul Spirits, preserve their souls, and eventually accompany him to the Divine Realm. Before he leaves, the Ice Empress gives him a drop of origin essence blood as protection and kisses his cheek, provoking the Snow Empress’s jealousy 20.
Joining His Companions
Suspicious of the Snow Empress’s frequent “seclusion,” the Ice Empress notices that much of her spiritual presence is absent from her original body. She eventually deduces that the Snow Empress has been accompanying Gu Wuchen through his Sea of Consciousness 43 51 52.
After visiting the Gu residence, she demands the same access and subsequently establishes her own soul imprint within him. She takes an immediate liking to the household’s soft furniture and Ice Lotus tea 51 52 53.
She accompanies Gu Wuchen to a Heaven Dou banquet, where he helps her through an initially awkward dance. Her jealousy returns when she watches the Snow Empress dance with him afterward 64.
Divine Trials
The Ice Empress and Snow Empress help suppress the violent energy of the Titan Snow Demon King’s sacrifice, allowing Gu Wuchen to absorb his Sixth Soul Ring smoothly 86.
During the Ice God’s First Trial, the two combine their Ultimate Ice with Gu Wuchen’s Ice God Power. Their first attempt fails, but careful synchronization produces a three-colored ice core and completes Resonance of Ice, Two Empresses of One Mind. Both empresses receive strengthened soul power and the ability to briefly manifest physically 108 109.
Sacrifice and Continued Companionship
After Gu Wuchen completes the Ice God’s Third Trial and reaches level seventy, the Ice Empress offers to become his Seventh Soul Ring. She briefly lets Bo Saixi believe the sacrifice will destroy her soul, then admits she is deliberately provoking her. Gu Wuchen explains that the Soul Spirit method will preserve her consciousness 151.
At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, she reveals her true form and dissolves into emerald-green light. Her sacrifice raises Gu Wuchen to level seventy-five and leaves behind a 400,000-year torso bone. She then emerges from his Sea of Consciousness, confirming that her personality and appearance remain intact 152.
She continues accompanying him afterward, attending the Shrek–Skywater match and guarding his cultivation alongside the Snow Empress 162 166.
Personality
The Ice Empress is teasing, competitive, and quick to resent being excluded. She notices inconsistencies in the Snow Empress’s behavior and persistently challenges her explanations until she uncovers her secret visits to Gu Wuchen 43 51 52.
Her rivalry with Bo Saixi is particularly confrontational. She enjoys provoking the high priestess and openly admits that her misleading explanation of the sacrifice was intended to get a reaction 87 146 151.
Her attachment to Gu Wuchen includes both concern for his safety and possessiveness. She gives him protective essence blood soon after meeting him, worries about his divine trials, and chooses sacrifice because the Soul Spirit method allows them to remain together 20 84 151.
She also crosses his personal boundaries: she and the Snow Empress kiss him while he is hypnotized, and later collaborate to administer Ice Sleep Powder before kissing him while he sleeps 110 161 162.
Abilities & Skills
Ultimate Ice
The Ice Empress wields Ultimate Ice characterized as sharp and domineering, contrasting with the Snow Empress’s gentler, more expansive power 108.
- Helps stabilize the energy released during the Titan Snow Demon King’s sacrifice 86.
- Can synchronize her power with the Snow Empress and Gu Wuchen to form a three-colored ice core 108 109.
- Releasing her full cultivation during her sacrifice causes the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well to churn violently, with half its waters frozen and the other half boiling 152.
Origin Essence Blood
A drop of her origin essence blood gives Gu Wuchen access to part of her power 20.
- Briefly creates an Ice Jade Emperor Scorpion mark on his body before disappearing 20.
- Activates when he calls her name in his heart, lending him a portion of her strength in danger 20.
Soul Imprint and Soul Spirit
Her initial soul imprint allows her to reside within Gu Wuchen without sacrificing her original body. Her later transformation into a Soul Spirit binds her to him while preserving her consciousness 53 152.
- Receives the ability to briefly manifest a physical form after the Ice God’s First Trial 109.
- Can freely leave and reenter his Sea of Consciousness after becoming a Soul Spirit 152.
- The God-Making Plan offers the prospect of following him to the Divine Realm rather than facing future heavenly tribulations 20 151.
Sacrificial Soul Ring and Torso Bone
Her sacrifice grants Gu Wuchen his Seventh Soul Ring and the Ice Jade Emperor Scorpion Torso Bone. The bone reaches the 400,000-year level and possesses External Soul Bone properties, extending along his spine and covering his ribs and sternum 152.
| Gift / Skill | Documented Effects |
|---|---|
| Seventh Soul Ring | Bears faint golden patterns associated with her nearly 400,000 years of cultivation. Its absorption raises Gu Wuchen from level seventy to seventy-five 152. |
| Torso Bone Enhancement | Reshapes his physique, improves cold resistance, strengthens his Ultimate Ice foundation, purifies his Soul Power, and stabilizes his recent breakthrough 152. |
| Eternal Frozen Domain | Initially covers a twenty-meter radius at −100°C. Doubles his ice-attribute power and can suppress 70% of an enemy’s strength; against ice-attribute Soul Masters, it can cripple their ice abilities 152. |
| Ice Emperor’s Wrath | Releases numerous Ultimate Ice spikes. Its first test freezes and shatters rock across a thirty-meter area while consuming about one-third of Gu Wuchen’s Soul Power 152. |
Gu Wuchen later uses Eternal Frozen Domain to create an ice platform across the Ring Sea during the Sea God’s Second Trial 155.
