Background / History
The Oddity World has existed for an extremely long time. According to the Azure Emperor, it is one of many small worlds formed when the Netherworld shattered into fragments. Unlike ordinary worlds, worlds of its kind do not arise spontaneously in large numbers. 177 443
Before human players arrived, Oddities originated in two principal ways: native Oddities were born from other Oddities, while people who died in the real world with immense grievances could resurrect there as new Oddities. Native-born Oddities generally begin at Level 1, though talent and resources determine their eventual limits; grievance-born Oddities can emerge at far higher levels. 177
In 2018, the Oddity Dungeon game began selecting humans worldwide to enter the Oddity World through dungeon instances. The early mortality rate was high, and governments initially failed to recognize the incidents as part of a single phenomenon. 36
The connection between the Oddity World and the real world intensified over time: real-world events and locations increasingly mirrored into it, while human Contractors became a growing market and a source of conflict. 50 384
On September 1, the Oddity World fully descended upon Earth, allowing Oddity World dungeons to appear across the country. 450 451 During the later initial fusion of worlds, it became the Netherworld; Mu Rufeng established the Underworld Bureaucracy and the Gates of Hell to regulate travel and administration. 550
Population
Native Oddities
Native Oddities are born through the reproduction of male and female Oddities. Their initial strength is usually Level 1, and most low-talent natives remain at Levels 1–3 even after maturing. High talent can raise an Oddity's potential ceiling, while resources can improve strength only up to that ceiling. 177
Grievance-Born Oddities
Humans who die in the real world with powerful resentment may resurrect as Oddities. Such individuals can be exceptionally strong from birth, with some reaching Level 7 or Level 8 Ghost King immediately. Before the arrival of human players, these new Oddities lacked memories of their former lives; afterward, they could retain real-world memories. 177
Humans and Contractors
Humans selected by the dungeon system become players and can advance as Contractors by surviving and clearing instances. Oddities commonly regard living humans as food, though corporations also use soulless human clones as an inferior substitute. 50 105 443
Power System
| Classification | Documented details |
|---|---|
| Oddity Levels | Oddities and Contractors use a Level 1–9 system. Level 8 is associated with Ghost Kings, while Level 9 is associated with Ghost Emperors. 177 264 |
| Higher beings | Emperor Venerables and God-Emperors exist beyond the ordinary Ghost Emperor classification and command major influence in the world. 355 518 |
| Contractors | At Level 1, a player unlocks Contract Slots and an Item Inventory. Each level adds one Contract Slot and three Inventory slots; a Level 2 player has two Contract Slots. 36 |
| Contracted Oddities | Forming a first contract creates Ghost Power within the Contractor. Contracted Oddities grant access to their abilities and may grow alongside their Contractor. 50 58 |
| Skills | Skills are categorized as support, attack, or rule-based. Rule-based skills are especially rare and can affect even powerful Oddities. 37 |
| Items | Items include ordinary items, Oddity Weapons, and rule-based items. Rule-based items remain useful regardless of level. 37 155 |
Contracts
Under the original system, a contract could not normally be broken once formed, making Contract Slots a limited and consequential resource. 133 After world fusion, Mu Rufeng severed all Contractor–Oddity contracts worldwide and opened the Gates of Hell for Oddities to return to their true home in the Netherworld. 553
Economy
Soul Coins are the primary currency of the Oddity World. They are used to purchase goods, items, and contracts, while also containing ghost energy that can be absorbed for cultivation; higher-denomination coins contain denser ghost energy. 42
Wealth is directly tied to strength because Soul Coins can be consumed for advancement. This creates a contradictory cycle in which powerful Oddities can earn more money but also spend heavily to maintain or improve their power. 51
- Scarlet Preferred — A major group-buying corporation that sought to expand into the real world after facing competition and development limits in the Oddity World. 50 105
- Heaven and Earth Bank — Described as the oldest group force in the Oddity World; each city branch is a top-tier Level 9 organization with suppressive power. 177
- Oddity Forum — A government-independent forum that appeared alongside the dungeon world. It contains national sections, though only Level 3 players can access sections outside their own country. 35
- Oddity Headlines — A news application reporting on current events, including corporate disputes and incidents involving Contractors. 50
By the period preceding world fusion, real-world and Oddity World goods were traded increasingly freely, and Scarlet Preferred had expanded into cities throughout the world. 518
Environment and Society
The Oddity World includes modern cities with skyscrapers, roads, traffic, commercial districts, and large numbers of pedestrians, despite being populated by bizarre beings. 149 Its technological culture incorporates supernatural elements: electric scooters can speak and bargain, while Ghost Domains can be used to create film special effects beyond conventional computer-generated imagery. 150 418
Not every region is equally modernized. Some cities possess internet, electricity, entertainment industries, and widespread media, while others remain closer to ancient societies without those technologies. 417 418
The world is also filled with chaotic ghost energy. In wilderness regions, this energy can form corrosive mist that continuously erodes those exposed to it. 224 Following its transformation into the Netherworld, dense Yin Qi spread through the land and the former chaotic mists gradually dissipated. 575
Notable Locations
| Location | Description |
|---|---|
| Scarlet Logistics Park | A high-star logistics complex mirroring a real-world site, staffed by Oddities and used to recruit human Contractors as workers. 5 50 |
| Silent Graveyard | A cultivation site where grave mounds contain dense, pure ghost power. Entry is paid, but its absolute rule is silence: speaking within the graveyard invokes lethal retaliation. 74 75 |
| Dead Sea | A dangerous sea containing the Sea God Palace, also called the Fourth Forbidden Land. Even Level 9 Ghost Emperors may be unable to enter or return from it. 380 |
| Tyranny Island | An island inhabited by deathless Oddities that revive ten seconds after being killed. Its inhabitants are notably fearless and violent. 449 450 |
| Oddity Mountain | The central obstacle of Tyranny Island's dungeon, requiring climbers to ascend it barehanded. It can regenerate damage and later became a Level 10 item after Mu Rufeng destroyed the island. 449 450 |
| Gluttony Cruise Ship | A major Oddity vessel and commercial location, later inspected by Mu Rufeng as one of his business interests. 211 518 |
World Fusion and the Netherworld
During the initial fusion, the Oddity World became the Netherworld. Mu Rufeng brought hundreds of thousands of imprisoned Oddities out of the Eighteen Levels of Hell, and their emergence coincided with the blood moon returning to its normal color. 550
The Underworld Bureaucracy became the governing authority over the transformed world. Wan Yousheng was appointed to lead it, while former God-Emperors and other powerful Oddities submitted to Mu Rufeng's authority. 550
After contracts were severed, the mortal realm increasingly rejected Oddities. Those who remained outside the Netherworld would weaken and eventually perish, while the Netherworld offered faster cultivation, dense Yin Qi, and freedom from Contractor bindings. 553
