Background / History

Previous Life and Upbringing

Yu Tianqing was an engineering student in his previous life and had already graduated and begun working before his death. During a visit to the Temple of Mystery and Marvel, he bought a peace pendant made from lightning-struck jujube wood. The pendant was involved in his death and subsequent transmigration into the world of Peerless Tang Sect 2 14 34.

Born into the Heavenly Dragon Sect, he was the great-great-grandson of its current sect master, a rank ninety-three Titled Douluo with the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Martial Soul. His mother had studied under Mu En in Shrek Academy’s inner court before following his father to the sect. After his parents disappeared in the Far North, Nan Shuishui raised him alongside her daughter, Nan Qiuqiu 1 10 18.

His mutated Martial Souls made cultivation dangerous from childhood. He spent twelve years using the Earth Dragon Sect’s cold spring to suppress his Yang Lightning while leaving the Yin Thunder Dragon without Soul Rings. Mu En later recognized both the suffering involved and the resolve required to reach the Quasi-Soul Saint threshold this way 1 27.

Far North Hunt and the Thunder Ancestor

On his eighteenth birthday, Ling Luochen delivered Cai Mei’er’s invitation to study in Shrek’s inner court. Before leaving, he accompanied Ling Luochen and Nan Shuishui into the Far North to obtain Ling Luochen’s fifth Soul Ring 1 3.

He defeated a ten-thousand-year Ice Spirit, but his attempt to make its Soul Ring available escalated into an encounter with the Ice Empress. To protect his companions, he confessed his love to Nan Shuishui, pushed her away with the unconscious Ling Luochen, and drew the Ice Empress after him by claiming he could help the Snow Empress survive her tribulation 4 5 6.

The pursuit exhausted his Soul Power. When the Ice Empress attacked him, his pendant released a golden light and summoned the Thunder Ancestor, who protected him as a Divine Firmament disciple. The deity taught him two scriptures and, at Yu Tianqing’s request, launched an attack that blinded Tang San in the Divine Realm 6 7 8.

Yu Tianqing also negotiated a separate bargain with the Snow Empress: Ten Thousand Year Profound Ice Marrow in exchange for one future act of assistance from her or the Ice Empress. She accepted and gave him the Snow Empress Token 8.

Relationships at the Earth Dragon Sect

Summoning the Thunder Ancestor drained Yu Tianqing’s origins, particularly his Yin Thunder Origin, and triggered a dangerous imbalance. Dual cultivation with Nan Shuishui restored that origin and increased both partners’ Soul Power. Although she initially remained troubled by their changed relationship, they later spoke openly and accepted each other as romantic partners 9 10 11 18.

Nan Shuishui continued encouraging him to pursue Ling Luochen. Yu Tianqing provided an injured Ice Jade Scorpion that sacrificed itself to become Ling Luochen’s fifth Soul Ring, granting her Ultimate Ice and the Ice Explosion Technique. Their relationship developed during her stay at the Earth Dragon Sect, while she helped harvest its Ice Extreme Divine Crystal and Ten Thousand Year Profound Ice Marrow 12 13 14 17.

Star Luo City and Shrek Academy

Before entering Shrek, Yu Tianqing traveled to Star Luo City to acquire the Spirit-Devouring Carving Knife ahead of its original storyline opportunity. He bought it for 150,000 Gold Soul Coins, spending most of his private funds. While using the alias Yang Yongxin, he exchanged Soul Tool lessons for Xu Jiujiu’s hospitality and used their outings to investigate the Star Luo Empire’s treatment of Soul Engineers 20 21 22.

Purifying the knife revealed that his Yang Lightning could destroy evil Qi and feed the resulting energy into his Martial Soul Origin. The process brought him to level seventy. He subsequently rescued Electrolux’s remnant soul and allowed it to reside in his spiritual sea 23 25.

At Shrek, Mu En accepted him as his final disciple. Yu Tianqing then defeated Ma Xiaotao with electrically launched bullets, lightning movement, and a finishing double kick, passing the inner court assessment 27 29.

After settling on Sea God Island, he enlisted Electrolux to develop the Soul Spirit Method. He also began treating Ma Xiaotao’s Evil Fire and sought higher-level Soul Tool references in the inner court library, where he met Han Ruoruo 31 33 34.

Personality

Yu Tianqing combines long-term ambition with practical caution. His knowledge of the original story makes him aware of the coming continental war and the Earth Dragon Sect’s vulnerability. Rather than accept dependence on another faction or submit to Tang San’s control over godhood, he intends to secure influence at Shrek and eventually establish power of his own 2 31.

He is an accomplished flatterer and opportunist. He praises the Ice Empress while trying to survive her pursuit, wins Mu En’s affection with enthusiastic compliments, and deliberately treats his public reunion with Ling Luochen as a chance to build a reputation. He is also willing to manipulate emotions: his apparent despair before Nan Shuishui is partly an act, though he later admits this to her 6 17 18 25 27.

His attachment to his adoptive household is genuine. He risks his life to draw the Ice Empress away from Nan Shuishui and Ling Luochen, promises to treat Nan Qiuqiu as his own, and wants Nan Shuishui to regard him as an equal she can rely upon. Beneath his confidence, he remains lonely because of his transmigration and the loss of his parents 6 9 18.

Despite joking about no longer wanting to work hard, he endured years of painful cultivation. His interest in Soul Tools also has an emotional basis: studying them preserves a connection to the industrial world of his previous life 18 27.

Abilities & Skills

Yin Yang Thunder Dragon

His twin Martial Souls possess opposing origins that must remain balanced. Yang Lightning governs growth and radiance, while Yin Thunder governs destruction and slaughter 1 10.

• Dragon Transformation: Covers his limbs or entire body in golden scales, with claws carrying golden electricity 4 6.
• Origin imbalance: Excessive disparity between yin and yang can cause severe pain and potentially make his body explode 1 9.
• Cold suppression: The Earth Dragon Sect’s cold spring restrained his Yang Lightning during his early cultivation 1 27.
• Unfilled Yin Thunder rings: His Yin Thunder Dragon still had no Soul Rings when Mu En examined him 27.

Lightning Combat and Movement

• Thunder Sword: Condenses lightning into a golden sword. He used it to disable a ten-thousand-year Ice Spirit whose strength in the Far North rivaled a thirty-thousand-year Soul Beast 4.
• Three Thousand Lightning Movement: A purple-ring Soul Skill that turns him into a streak of golden lightning. During his escape from the Ice Empress, he split into three streaks, two of which she destroyed 6 29.
• Flash Step: Used to reposition behind Ling Luochen 32.
• Nine Heavens Thunder Double Kick: A lightning-wreathed two-kick attack used to knock Ma Xiaotao out of the arena 29.
• Electrical projectile launching: Fires coins or specially made conical bullets from his hand. Ice Extreme Divine Crystal ammunition releases extreme cold that can disrupt an opponent’s Soul Power circulation 29.

Evil-Qi Purification

Yang Lightning can annihilate evil Qi and return purified energy to his Yang Lightning Origin. Yu Tianqing identifies this as an innate Martial Soul function rather than an effect of the Thunder Ancestor’s scriptures 23.

• Removed the curse from the Spirit-Devouring Carving Knife, restoring its original jade-green appearance 23.
• Purified Ma Xiaotao’s accumulated Evil Fire and received cultivation feedback 33.

Dual Cultivation

Dual cultivation strengthens his Yin Thunder Origin and helps regulate his twin Martial Souls 10 11.

• Nan Shuishui’s Rouge Dragon annihilation origin revived his depleted Yin Thunder Origin and helped him advance from level sixty-six to sixty-eight 10.
• Ling Luochen’s Ultimate Ice brought his yin and yang origins closer to balance and accelerated his Soul Power circulation 30.
• Benefits both partners; Nan Shuishui gained half a level, while Ling Luochen advanced from level fifty-six to fifty-eight after their first night together 11 31.
• The initial session has the strongest effect; later sessions support faster cultivation and foundation stabilization 11 31.

The Thunder Ancestor transmitted two cultivation methods directly into his mind 8:

Yu Tianqing is a self-taught Level 5 Soul Engineer who learned from purchased textbooks and dismantled Soul Tools. His approach emphasizes combining available Soul Guidance Formations to achieve a useful function rather than independently researching their foundations 21 34.

• Acknowledges that he only barely meets Level 5 standards and lacks the foundations of Sun Moon Empire engineers 34.

• Ma Xiaotao — His martial niece and defeated assessment opponent. Later becomes a recurring recipient of his Evil Fire purification 28 29 33.
• Xu Jiujiu — A princess who approaches him as auctioneer Jiu’er and seeks to recruit him. He recognizes her identity but keeps his guard up while exchanging Soul Tool instruction for hospitality 20 21 22.

Unfulfilled Plans

• Soul Spirit development: Wants Electrolux’s Soul Spirit Method to supply suitable rings for his empty Yin Thunder Dragon slots and his Yang Thunder Dragon’s seventh ring, while providing a core technology for his own faction 31.
• Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well: Plans to request the Snow Empress’s help reaching the well and target the hundred-thousand-year Infernal Delicate Apricot and Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass 32.
• Simultaneous dual Soul Cores: Intends to condense Yin-Yang Complementary Dual Soul Cores together to avoid destabilizing his Martial Souls. Mu En cannot teach him the method and identifies Di Tian as possibly the only being capable of it 32 35.
• Evil Soul Master hunting: Sees purification as a way to build his Yang Lightning Origin and hopes to use Shrek’s information channels to locate targets. This remains a proposed cultivation route rather than a documented campaign 23 32.
