Personality

The Ice Empress is fierce, proud, and quick to retaliate against humans who harm the Far North's Soul Beasts. She treats the death of one of her subjects as grounds to kill the entire hunting party. Even under the Thunder Ancestor's overwhelming pressure, she challenges his right to judge her and condemns the heavenly tribulations that threaten to separate her from the Snow Empress 5 7.

Her attachment to the Snow Empress exposes a much more vulnerable side. Although accustomed to death after nearly four hundred thousand years, she cries and pleads when faced with losing the person she cares about most. The Snow Empress can calm her even after she has begun recklessly summoning her tribulation 4 7.

She can set aside her anger when the Snow Empress's survival is at stake, abandoning her pursuit of Nan Shuishui and Ling Luochen to follow Yu Tianqing's promise of help. Later, however, she struggles with the Snow Empress's acceptance of a human family and feels that her closest companion is drifting away 6 24.

History

Seeking a Way to Save the Snow Empress

With the Snow Empress approaching her 700,000-year heavenly tribulation, the Ice Empress desperately searches for an alternative to her companion's planned human transformation. The Snow Empress asks her to inherit responsibility for the Far North and, should the transformation fail, consume her remains and absorb her origin to survive her own approaching tribulation. The Ice Empress rejects the prospect of such a separation 4.

She then detects Ten Thousand Year Profound Ice Marrow and follows its scent, believing it can save the Snow Empress. The scent comes from Yu Tianqing, whose years of cultivation in the Earth Dragon Sect's cold spring have left traces of the treasure on him 4 6.

Pursuit of Yu Tianqing

The Ice Empress intercepts Yu Tianqing, Nan Shuishui, and Ling Luochen during their Soul Hunt. An Ice Spirit that Yu Tianqing previously hurled into the air falls onto her head and shatters. Uninjured but enraged by the death of a Far North subject, she creates a blizzard and blocks the group's escape 5.

Yu Tianqing draws her away by claiming he can help the Snow Empress survive her tribulation. She destroys two of his lightning decoys, eventually captures him, and demands the Profound Ice Marrow. When he admits that he knows its location but carries none, she attempts to strike him. Golden light from his Thunder Ancestor Token blocks the blow 6.

Confrontation and Agreement

The summoned Thunder Ancestor overwhelms the Ice Empress with his presence. She nevertheless protests that she was defending her subjects and trying to save the Snow Empress. Her defiance escalates until she begins drawing down her 400,000-year tribulation, which the Snow Empress warns she cannot survive in her current condition. The Snow Empress calms her, and the Thunder Ancestor disperses the gathering tribulation 7.

After witnessing the deity's power, the Ice Empress abandons forcibly seizing the marrow. Although she objects to helping a human, the Snow Empress accepts Yu Tianqing's offer: one piece of Profound Ice Marrow purchases one occasion of assistance from either empress. The Snow Empress also swears that neither of them will continue making trouble for him 8.

The Snow Empress's Transformation

The Ice Empress later watches an injured Ice Jade Scorpion clanswoman carry Yu Tianqing and Nan Shuishui out of the Far North, complaining that he has gotten off easily. The Snow Empress orders the region's core sealed against humans and entrusts the arrangement with Yu Tianqing to her while preparing to transform. The Ice Empress questions why transformation remains necessary, but the Snow Empress explains that marrow alone cannot solve the increasingly difficult future tribulations 11.

After the transformed Snow Empress settles in the Earth Dragon Sect as Xue'er, the Ice Empress visits her there. Xue'er gives her the Profound Ice Marrow received from Nan Shuishui and directs her to return and prepare for a 400,000-year breakthrough. Troubled by Xue'er's decision to call a human woman her mother, the Ice Empress leaves in green light, looking back toward the Snow Empress at the window 24.
