Appearance
Jin Pang is repeatedly described as fat or plump 6 13.
- Family resemblance: His round, plump grandfather Jin Feng resembles him closely enough that their relationship is immediately apparent 21.
Personality
Jin Pang is shrewd beneath his carefree, talkative exterior. He recognizes Qin Chuan’s attempt to recruit him against Xie An and willingly enters an alliance based on their shared interests. Qin Chuan later judges him to be observant, methodical, and capable of knowing when to advance or retreat 6 14.
His loyalty repeatedly outweighs his fear. Although he knows he is poorly suited to a dangerous fight, he follows Qin Chuan rather than abandon a new ally. He subsequently spends precious talismans, pills, and nearly all his blood essence keeping them both alive 8 9 10 12.
He enjoys bargaining, teasing friends, and humiliating enemies. He initially asks Qin Chuan to reimburse his life-saving supplies above market price, but later refuses the spirit stones and accepts a wolf corpse instead. His hostility toward Xie An is much less controlled: Jin Feng fears that this particular grudge makes him impulsive enough to endanger his life 10 14 27 44.
History
Family Tragedy
Jin Pang’s mother belonged to the Yang family and was the sister of the Xiao family’s former matriarch. Her son, Xiao Yi, was Jin Pang’s older cousin and personally guided him through learning alchemy. The two became closer than brothers 15 22.
After Xiao Yi was poisoned in a secret realm, Jin Pang’s parents, maternal aunt, and maternal grandfather entered the Land of the Fallen Phoenix to obtain medicine. Only his maternal grandfather returned alive. Members of the demon race then invaded the Xiao estate and stole the medicine, reportedly after the young Xie An let information about it slip. The protection of Yun Yao and the Xiao family prevented Jin Pang’s family from retaliating against Xie An 15.
Qin Chuan’s questions later made Jin Pang suspect that the Xiao family head might have arranged the disaster, though this remained speculation. Jin Pang also remembered a possible motive: the Yang family possessed a secret pill formula capable of supporting cultivation to Late Tribulation Transcendence. His maternal grandfather had entrusted knowledge of it to him and Xiao Yi before dying, prompting Jin Pang to resolve to warn his cousin to protect it 15 16.
Alliance with Qin Chuan
Qin Chuan approached Jin Pang while seeking an ally with influential backing. Jin Pang initially intended to enter only the alchemy competition, but registered for the martial competition’s secret-realm round so they could sabotage Xie An 6.
Their alliance became a genuine friendship during the expedition. Jin Pang rescued Qin Chuan from a False Nascent Soul wolf demon, and Qin Chuan returned to save him when the beast changed targets. Trapped between two such demons, Jin Pang exhausted his talismans, lost his pill cauldron, and sustained a protective heavenly fire while Qin Chuan struggled to master the Tianquan Sword. After Qin Chuan defeated the wolves, Jin Pang carried him to an abandoned cave and supplied recovery pills 10 11 12 13.
Once they recovered, Jin Pang revealed that he had recognized Qin Chuan’s sword wounds on Gu Xiran and understood that his ally opposed the entire sect master’s faction. They agreed to continue working together, then used Twin Insects to track Xie An. Jin Pang lured him into Qin Chuan’s prepared ambush and sacrificed ninety percent of his blood essence to attack him with Mystic Yellow Heavenly Fire. Their attempt to finish Xie An was interrupted by his Dao protector 14 15 16 17.
Sect Competitions
After learning that Qin Chuan was Shen Qingyuan’s disciple, Jin Pang began addressing him as “Martial Uncle Qin.” At Qin Chuan’s insistence, they agreed to treat one another as equals and use “Brother Qin” and “Brother Jin” instead 17 20.
| Event | Jin Pang’s involvement |
|---|---|
| Public confrontation with Yun Yao’s disciples | Supports Qin Chuan’s accusations of disrespect and attempted murder, helping pressure Yun Yao into ordering apologies and paying compensation 21. |
| Qin Chuan’s match against Gu Xiran | Secures the requested matchup through his grandfather and the great elder 22. |
| Martial competition betting | Places Qin Chuan’s bets, recruits wealthy disciples to back him, and explains how their family connections could benefit him 24 25 26. |
| Arena brawl | Secretly kicks Xie An amid the crowd, grievously injuring his genitals, then exposes the injury publicly 27. |
| Alchemy competition | Wins first place and receives a supreme-grade alchemy furnace 31 32. |
| Attempted possession | Follows Qin Chuan’s warning to have Jin Feng present while refining the prize furnace. Jin Feng destroys the remnant soul that tries to possess him 33. |
| Formation competition | Supports Qin Chuan and mocks Jiang Lin alongside Wang Sang. After Jiang Lin’s defeat, he uses a borrowed vicious dog to mutilate him, then escapes with an earth escape talisman 36 37 39. |
Preparations for the Land of the Fallen Phoenix
Qin Chuan warned Jin Pang that the Land of the Fallen Phoenix would open within five years and admit cultivators below Nascent Soul. The possibility of finding a way to restore Xiao Yi made Jin Pang eager to prepare, while Qin Chuan urged him to keep the information secret and avoid confronting Xie An prematurely 22.
By the time Qin Chuan brought him a jade slip of further information, Jin Pang had entered seclusion to attempt a breakthrough. Jin Feng accepted the material on his behalf and asked Qin Chuan to help restrain his grandson’s recklessness toward Xie An 44.

- Drives back two False Nascent Soul wolf demons and scorches their claws 12.

Combat and Escape Techniques
Jin Pang considers his combat strength relatively weak because he specializes in pill cultivation, but he can defeat weaker demonic beasts and provide support in stronger battles 10 11 14.
- Fireball Technique: Burns down multiple wolf demons and provides supporting attacks against a False Nascent Soul opponent 10.
- Flight: Uses aerial movement to escape wolves that cannot fly 10.
