Power Progression

Background / History

Hanxing is a copy extracted from another version of himself in a different timeline. Superuniversal wills created him as data and placed him in a dueling arena for their amusement. During his final battle against Gu, he was forced to open a portal and escaped into the world where he met the Stellaron Hunters. He believes he should have disappeared outside the arena and that his continued existence means Eternal Finality will also erode this universe 37.

His inherited memories include service in the Order-Clearing Division, whose members became his family. A wanted criminal killed his comrades and someone he loved. When Hanxing finally gained the strength to confront the killer, he learned that the man was his twin brother and also another self, and that the universe’s end was tied to them. Hanxing was copied into the arena before learning what decision his original self ultimately made 77.

The Stellaron Hunters found him badly injured in a snowy landscape. Initially unable to recall much beyond the Blade of Ending’s origins, he accepted their welcome and a place in the organization. Kafka and Silver Wolf knew that Elio considered him important, though Hanxing was not initially told why 1.

Appearance

• Ordinary appearance: Black hair and initially black eyes; commonly wears a dark coat or windbreaker 2 95 102 108.
• Star Eyes: Blue eyes with a dark-blue star in each pupil 2.
• Temporal eye: His right eye becomes golden, with clock markings and moving hands, after Xipe’s intervention 49.
• Harmony manifestations: Tuning produces yellow and purple coloration around his eyes and can turn his hair golden 50 95 106.
• Finality manifestations: Red appears in his eyes and hair after he absorbs Terminus’s remains 93.
• Mission attire: Wears a mask while operating as Mangfeng on Jarilo-VI; later pins a firefly charm to his coat collar 11 16 78.

Personality

Hanxing is affectionate and openly devoted to Firefly, but initially becomes embarrassed when Silver Wolf notices his romantic interest. After their relationship develops, he readily introduces her as his girlfriend and later speaks of her as his irreplaceable other half 11 30 57 77.

His protectiveness is rooted in the loss of his former comrades. He explains that he no longer wants to watch anyone he cares about disappear before him. Threats to Firefly can provoke immediate violence: he draws his blade on Dahlia for manipulating their relationship and again when she banishes Firefly into the Memory Zone 42 46 77.

He is also calculating rather than indiscriminately aggressive. He engineers the Astral Express’s involvement in Penacony, chooses a favorable moment to reveal his identity, and avoids unnecessary conflict with Penacony’s authorities. During the Fansha Star fighting, he asks Firefly to leave opponents alive until they understand the situation 24 38 50.

His confidence can become dangerous overcommitment. He initially toys with Hoolay behind a seemingly impenetrable shield, but later nearly dies after losing his powers. Following Firefly’s rescue, he promises not to push himself so recklessly again 97 101 103 106.

Star Eyes

An innate ocular power associated with healing, resurrection, illusions, and recovered memories 3.

• Reassembles his body after Blade stabs through his heart and repeatedly attacks him 2.
• Heals wounds and restores damaged targets, including Svarog 3 15 32.
• Initially treats Firefly’s Entropy Loss Syndrome, though symptoms are visible again before their wedding 3 76.
• Can cause severe exhaustion: treating Firefly makes his eyes bleed, while restoring Svarog is followed by an overnight collapse 3 15 16.
• Cannot initially be used in Penacony’s dreamscape, though he can still activate it after waking in the Dream Pool 38 40.

Prison of Fiery Eyes

An eye-based offensive technique associated with Hanxing’s illusion abilities 2 3.

• Forbidden Thrust: Used against Blade, knocks Caelus unconscious, and incapacitates an Order Pathstrider 2 20 29.
• Ashen Annihilation: Causes multiple guards to fall together during the assault on Night Return Port 29.
• Hanxing also casts an illusion on a soldier and later traps Caelus in one during their Penacony confrontation 24 39.

Dimensional and Spatial Manipulation

Hanxing channels spatial attacks through the Blade of Ending and later opens space with his bare hands 3 4 34.

• Dimensional Rift: Produces sword qi capable of cutting several targets apart 3 9.
• Spatial gates: Enables travel between locations, including Jarilo-VI’s surface, Underworld, and the Stellaron Hunters’ ship 4 11 12.
• Personal space: Stores weapons and supplies; entering without coordinates leads him to an enclosed space containing a patterned dagger 6 17.
• Space creation: Reports being able to create roughly one hundred cubic meters of space at his then-current strength 51.
• Limitations: His blade loses its red glow during the failed journey to Edo Star, leaving him unable to open a return portal. The later Borisin suppression also cuts off spatial access 23 101.

Temporal Manipulation

Xipe’s gift develops Hanxing’s right eye into a clock-like organ that controls time 49.

• Can rewind, accelerate, pause, or erase time, with a stated ten-second limit at that stage 51.
• Stops time while countering Acheron’s sword energy 49.
• Reverses the destruction of his arm, removing the lingering red lightning damaging it 49.
• Later appears to skip ten seconds while a hostile wolf-shaped mech is destroyed 87.
• Countering Acheron still leaves him badly injured and exhausted; temporal control does not make him immune to an Emanator’s attack 49.

Harmony’s Tuning

As an Emanator of Harmony, Hanxing uses Tuning for disguise, perception, concealment, and support 38 50 95.

• Assumes Yan Bai’s appearance and disguises himself as a Cloud Knight 38 95.
• Can make observers perceive him as an object, such as a box 41.
• Locates Firefly over a great distance once Silver Wolf supplies her position 42.
• Mixes Tuning into the shockwave from his clash with Acheron to reduce its effects 49.
• Uses Tuning to conceal Firefly’s visible illness during their wedding 76.
• Stores twenty-four hours of Emanator-level Tuning in the linked pendant and necklace, concealing Firefly from ordinary observers 95.

Clones, Souls, and Body Reconstruction

Hanxing can create combat doubles and provide bodies for displaced souls 13 43 51.

• Fire Karma Clone: Creates multiple attackers; a clone used against Cocolia vanishes and sets her ablaze 13 20.
• Transfers Yan Bai’s blade-bound soul into a double, allowing it to act as Yan Bai himself 43.

Hanxing fights with sabers, swords, daggers, and a halberd. Even without most supernatural abilities, he kills waves of Borisin using a halberd technique taught by a deceased mentor 2 20 101 102.

• Spirit-Slaying Sword Qi: Two intersecting waves cut Cocolia’s meteorite into four pieces 20.
• Yin-Yang Reversal: Forms a black-and-white sphere that damages Argenti’s armor and blasts Borisin apart 61 96.
• Repel: Drives Argenti and the sphere backward into a wall 61.
• Scorched Earth: Creates flame spikes that impale nearby enemies before erupting into a blaze 90.

• Blade of Ending — An embroidered spring saber connected to dimensional power and described as a sliver of Eternal Finality containing its own universe. It houses the gathered souls of Fansha Star before their amalgamated consciousness emerges as Yan Bai 1 34 38.
• Patterned domain dagger — Retrieved from a box inside Hanxing’s personal space. Used to establish a domain during his battle with Cocolia; that domain can be broken by sufficient force 17 20.
• Netherworld — A faintly green-glowing weapon that changes between longsword, throwing knife, and halberd forms. Becomes essential when Hanxing loses access to his stored saber 101 102.
• Stellarons — Takes Cocolia’s Stellaron and later returns from Fansha Star with another. Uses Stellaron power against Basha and to reinforce the Blade of Ending against Acheron 20 33 35 49.
• Firefly charm and linked necklace — Paired ornaments that warn one wearer when the other is in danger. The charm also helps regulate Hanxing’s powers and stores usable Harmony energy 78 93 95 102 108.
• Mask — Purchased from Sampo and used to conceal his identity during the Jarilo-VI operation 5 11 16.

Relationships

• Firefly — Wife and fellow Stellaron Hunter. Their mutual confession begins over shared cakes; Hanxing later promises her a wedding, marries her aboard the Radiant Feldspar, and restores her to a new body. She rescues him when his powers fail in the prison 11 72 76 78 103.
• Kafka — Teammate who welcomes him into the Stellaron Hunters, explains his condition after they find him, and assigns his mission with Firefly. Supports their romance through teasing 1 21 23.
• Silver Wolf — Hacker and mission-support contact. Helps him discover portal creation, advises him about Firefly’s tastes, and supplies the tracker needed to find Firefly in Dreamflux Reef 4 11 42.
• Blade — Combat instructor. His lethal training bout triggers Hanxing’s regeneration and recovery of abilities 2 3.
• Elio — Directs Hanxing through scripts. Identifies him as important, orders his journey with the Astral Express, and sends him to find Terminus’s remains 1 78 92 93.
• Yan Bai — Revolutionary comrade and later blade-bound companion. The original Yan Bai and Fansha Star’s inhabitants contribute their wills to Hanxing’s awakening; their merged souls later adopt Yan Bai’s identity. Hanxing gives this companion an independent body 33 34 38 51.
• Caelus — Initially an ally whom Hanxing betrays to seize Jarilo-VI’s Stellaron. Their hostility becomes cooperation after Hanxing reveals his identity in Penacony 20 39 50.
• Xipe — Aeon of Harmony who restores memories and grants divine power. Tells Hanxing that he will decide the universe’s fate 33 49.
• Jintiao / AR-214 — Firefly’s former Iron Cavalry friend. Hanxing reconstructs her body and later helps her join the Astral Express 74 78.
• Sunday — Ideological opponent who exposes Hanxing’s origins and challenges whether his support for Harmony depends on his exceptional advantages 61 63 66.
• Dahlia — Uneasy associate whose interference with Firefly repeatedly provokes Hanxing. Warns him that probing a memory from another world could lead to the universe’s worst ending 42 46.
• Yanqing and Yunli — Hanxing supports Yanqing during the stolen-sword dispute and challenges Yunli to obtain an apology and the sword’s return. Feixiao interrupts their duel 84 85 90 91.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Jarilo-VI

Hanxing’s first mission requires him to follow the Astral Express party while posing as a Galaxy Ranger. Sampo sells him information and a mask at an inflated price, leaving him short of local money. He subsequently fights alongside the group, helps defeat Svarog, and repairs the robot before collapsing from exhaustion 5 9 12 15.

At the confrontation with Cocolia, Hanxing reveals himself as a Stellaron Hunter. After defeating her with Caelus’s assistance, he takes the Stellaron, incapacitates Caelus, and escapes with Cocolia rather than seal it. The Hunters celebrate the completion of his first mission 20 21.

Fansha Star

A mission to obtain Edo Star’s Stellaron goes wrong when Hanxing and Firefly arrive on Fansha Star and lose their return route. They join forces with Yan Bai’s Kangbu Revolutionary Army, and Hanxing single-handedly captures a regimental command post at Night Return Port 23 24 29 30.

The conflict culminates in the fight against Basha, a Throne of Order sustained by a Stellaron. The wills of Fansha Star’s inhabitants merge into Hanxing’s blade, Xipe reveals his past, and Hanxing defeats Basha. He then gathers the remaining souls and returns to the Hunters with a Stellaron 33 34 35.

Penacony

Hanxing initially tries to draw the Astral Express into the struggle over the grand legacy by presenting it as a Stellaron. His investigation becomes entangled with the deeper dreamscape, Firefly’s apparent death, and Dahlia’s manipulation of the Memory Zone 38 39 42 46.

After stopping Acheron’s attack from spreading across Penacony, he reveals his affiliation and Emanator status to Caelus. He and Firefly cooperate openly with the Express, win the Scorchsand Festival with Yan Bai, and confront Sunday’s plan for Order. Sunday’s vision unsettles Hanxing by offering the possibility of a peaceful life without Firefly’s illness or his own cosmic burden 49 50 56 61 66.

Firefly sacrifices herself to break the final layer of Ena’s Dream, disappearing even after Hanxing removes the signs of her illness. Later, he fulfills her wish for a wedding and fireworks. After her subsequent dissipation, he creates a new body for her, then departs Penacony with her aboard the Astral Express 71 72 76 77 78.

Xianzhou Luofu

The Luofu’s architecture reminds Hanxing of his hometown. During the visit, he becomes involved in Yunli and Yanqing’s dispute, warns Jing Yuan about Borisin infiltration, and follows Elio’s script to absorb Terminus’s remains 79 80 84 90 93.

When the Borisin attempt to free Hoolay, Hanxing disguises himself as a Cloud Knight and infiltrates the Prison of Deep Seclusion. A smoke bomb suppresses his powers, leaving him to fight repeated waves of enemies with Netherworld. Firefly reaches him just before his wounds prove fatal, and Star Eyes subsequently returns 95 97 101 102 103 104.

Hanxing resumes the pursuit using limited Harmony energy. He investigates Borisin traces, captures a suspicious Vidyadhara server, and joins the effort to eliminate disguised Borisin groups 106 108 112 114.
