Background / History

Clark grows up on the Kent Farm in Kansas as the adoptive son of Jonathan and Martha Kent. At seventeen, he wants the ordinary experiences of his classmates—especially joining the football team—but his parents refuse because his unnatural strength could expose him. He is well-liked by teachers but regarded by some peers as a “nerd” for avoiding sports and other normal teenage activities 424 425.

After surviving Lex Luthor’s car striking him at high speed and saving Lex from drowning, Clark clashes with Jonathan over accepting Lex’s gifted sports car. Jonathan finally reveals that Clark arrived on Earth in a spacecraft during a meteor shower, leaving Clark distressed over his alien origin and separation from the life he considers home 429.

Luke Cahill, Clark’s wealthy neighbor and later acknowledged elder cousin, reveals that he possesses similar powers.
