Background and History

Following Thanos's snap, Thor loses nearly everything: Asgard has been destroyed by the Fire Giants, most of his people die aboard their ship, and Loki is believed dead. Stormbreaker was unable to prevent the snap, leaving him driven by grief, rage, and a desire to kill Thanos. 216

When Luke arrives in Wakanda, Thor attacks him with Stormbreaker. Luke defeats him decisively, disarms him, and forces him into a conversation. Although humiliated by the loss, Thor accepts the result and challenges Luke to a future rematch. 217 218

Thor later joins the Avengers' attempt to stop Thanos, attacking alongside Iron Man and the others. Thanos restrains and injures him with the Infinity Stones, but Thor continues fighting after Iron Man frees him. 228

The reversal of the snap does not restore Thor's immediate family: Loki, Hela, Odin, and Frigga remain dead, while Jane Foster has ended their relationship. With Stormbreaker as his remaining companion, he begins escaping into alcohol, junk food, and video games. 237
