Only Just Arrived in Orario
Three days later, in the evening, Hestia received her first paycheck.
She didn't have much money, just enough for the two of them to have dinner at an ordinary restaurant. But she held up the small bag of coins in front of Lin Yuan and waved it several times.
"It's my treat today."
"There are still funds remaining for the Familia."
"This isn't Familia funds; it's money I earned myself." Hestia hugged the money pouch to her chest, the blue ribbon slightly deformed from being squeezed by her arms. "You celebrated your first earnings a few days ago; today it's my turn."
She found a job at a potato ball stand. She had to stand there until evening every day, and the wages were far less than what an adventurer could earn in a day in the Dungeon, but at least it proved that she hadn't left the responsibility of supporting her Familia entirely to Lin Yuan.
Hestia brought Lin Yuan back to West Street.
"Hostess of Fertility doesn't come cheap," Lin Yuan cautioned.
"It's okay to do it once in a while. Besides, the barbecue last time was delicious."
The last sentence is clearly the main reason.
The tavern was even more lively than last time. Several long tables were already full of adventurers, with the clinking of glasses and laughter mingling together. Behind the counter, Mia checked the accounts while urging the guests not to block the way in a voice loud enough to drown out everyone else.
"We meet again."
Syr walked out from the crowd, her long gray hair swaying gently with her steps. She didn't ask the two if it was their first time there, and led them directly to the seats they had sat in before.
Lady Hestia seems to be in a very good mood today.
"I found a job." Hestia placed her purse on the table. "So I'll pay for today."
Syr offered her congratulations earnestly, then looked at Lin Yuan: "Have you been working hard in the Dungeon too?"
"Just familiar with the shallow routes."
"You already sound like an adventurer. How long have you been an adventurer?"
Four days.
Liu, who was passing by with a wine glass in her hand, paused for a moment.
Lin Yuan still wore the Nameless at his waist. The weapon had no fancy decorations, but the hilt and scabbard showed signs of long-term use. After entering the tavern, he didn't deliberately observe anyone, but the position he chose allowed him to see the front door, the back door, and the stairs all at the same time.
No matter how you look at it, this is not a habit that someone who has only been an adventurer for four days would have.
Liu didn't ask any questions, but glanced at Lin Yuan again as she handed the wine glass to another table.
Just then, a drunken adventurer got up too quickly and bumped into the cat-man shopkeeper behind him. The wooden tray in the cat-man's arms tilted violently, and six glasses full of wine flew out at the same time.
The surrounding customers quickly moved away.
Lin Yuan didn't leave his seat; he simply reached out and caught the first glass that fell. With a flick of his wrist, the other glasses collided one after another, hitting their bottoms and rims before neatly stacking in his palm. A little wine spilled from the glasses, but none of it landed on any of the guests.
The tavern was quiet for a moment, then erupted in cheers.
"Wow, that's impressive!" The cat-like shopkeeper took the cup, turned around and glared at the adventurer who had bumped into her. "If you're drunk, sit down and don't cause any trouble for Anya, meow!"
Mia also looked up from behind the counter. The adventurer immediately sat back down, not daring to move again.
Syr stood beside Lin Yuan, her gaze lingering on him longer than on the others.
Lin Yuan looked up at her.
Unlike the gaze she felt in Tower of Babel Square, Syr's gaze lacked divine aura and the distance of someone looking down from a great height. Yet, for a fleeting moment, the feeling of intently observing the depths of one's soul was remarkably similar.
"Is there something on my face?" Syr asked with a smile.
"No."
Hestia looked at Syr, then at Lin Yuan: "Then why were you staring at her?"
"The way she looks at people reminds me of the people on the Tower of Babel."
Syr's smile remained unchanged, "Many gods live on the Tower of Babel. Perhaps you just think I resemble a certain goddess."
"Possible."
Lin Yuan didn't press further. Syr naturally picked up the menu and introduced Hestia to the more reasonably priced dishes available that day.
After dinner, the two left the tavern.
Liu stood near the counter, watching Lin Yuan and Hestia disappear into the crowd. She didn't look away until the tavern doors closed again.
"He's not someone who's just started fighting," Ryu said.
Syr was tidying up the dishes the two had used when she heard this and blinked slightly.
"Mr. Lin Yuan only said that he had been an adventurer for four days, and didn't mention that he had never fought before."
"After entering the tavern, he kept an eye on the exit and never turned his back to strangers. When he caught the glass, he didn't even look where it would land."
That wasn't a skill to show off, but an instinct formed after the body had long been accustomed to danger.
Liu couldn't determine what Lin Yuan had been through, nor did she intend to approach someone of unknown origin based solely on these details. As long as he didn't harm anyone in the tavern, she wouldn't interfere.
"You seem quite interested in him," Liu said, looking at Syr.
Because he is special.
"Special does not necessarily mean safe."
"I know." Syr glanced at the closed tavern door, her smile still gentle. "However, he really has only just arrived in Orario."
