Background / History

Origins and Separation from Her Mother

Mingye is the daughter of the Manju Sacred King and Chen Fusheng, a human descendant of the God-Slaying God Clan. According to Manju, Chen Fusheng pursued her for more than ten years before she accepted him. On the day Mingye was born, he used the Netherworld Pearl to open a passage for a Heavenly Court invasion 470.

After the invasion, hostile Sacred Kings and Heavenly Court collaborators continued seeking the pearl. Because Mingye was its associated artifact spirit, anyone seeking complete control of it would have to kill her. Manju sealed her daughter’s Nether Clan bloodline and secretly sent her to the Pan Emperor Continent to grow up as a human. Seventeen years later, she dispatched searchers to retrieve her before the seal became unstable 470.

Childhood as an Assassin

A hunter sold Mingye at a slave market, after which she entered the assassin organization serving the Tuoba Lineage. Miao Min trained her to kill from childhood. Mingye believed that becoming the lineage’s most indispensable weapon was her only way to survive 101 295.

Originally called Xiaoxiao, she chose the name Mingye after surviving a deadly childhood trial. To her, Ming represented death, while Ye represented that night—the beginning of her transformation. Her memories of A Yue and the other children remained central to her determination to live 281.

From Chen Mu’s Enemy to His Companion

Mingye initially captured Chen Mu and pursued him after his escape. He gravely wounded her with Rune Gun No. 2, then defeated and captured her using his mechanism fortress. He spared her because he wanted to learn why she had targeted him 43 45 46.

After her release, she followed him again. She later admitted that she had intended to kill him, but also had nowhere else to go: the Tuoba Lineage had been her entire life. Chen Mu eventually welcomed her as a companion and introduced her to Chen Duo and A Huo 51 52 102 281.

At the Heaven-Questioning Pavilion, Mingye joined the Spirit Martial Hall and became Leng Bi’s disciple. The Tuoba Lineage treated her departure as betrayal. Tuoba Ziying recruited Zhu Dou to capture her, and Miao Min later attempted to force her to kill Chen Mu. Mingye instead helped Chen Mu wound Miao Min and drive her away 78 81 89 102.

Nether Clan Awakening and Chen Village

While Mingye and Chen Duo fled an Essence Beast King in the Mystic Spirit Grotto-Heaven, Mingye’s celadon bottle awakened. It frightened off the beast, increased her cultivation, and transformed her body into its Nether Clan appearance. The two hid because they feared the pavilion would imprison her as a nonhuman spy 175.

Hu Peng eventually discovered her altered appearance and attacked both women. Mingye escaped with Chen Duo using Lovesickness Curtain. After returning to Chen Village, she absorbed the power sealed in the Netherworld Pearl and chose to remain with Chen Mu rather than immediately seek the Nether Clan. She accepted command of the village’s newly established Shadow Guards 181 192 193.

Her Core Formation breakthrough forced her to relive her childhood and repeated defeats by Miao Min. Chen Mu entered the illusion and reminded her that she had already escaped the Tuoba Lineage. After overcoming this heart demon, Mingye formed her Yin-Yang Mystic Core 281 283.

During the annexation of the Flame Blessing Tribe, she confronted Miao Min, questioned her about her origins, and killed her. With revenge completed and little information about her parents, Mingye felt she had lost another purpose. Chen Mu promised to accompany her to the Netherworld to investigate 295 296.

Journey to the Netherworld

Mingye initially hesitated to leave because she feared the Heavenly Court or Abyss Devil forces might attack the Chen Kingdom in their absence. She ultimately traveled with Chen Mu, but the Netherworld’s Heavenly Dao sealed access to her inner realm and drastically reduced her strength 424 426 430.

Separated from Chen Mu, she reached Iron Soul Village, where Gao Fenghai intended to take her as a concubine. Once reunited, she and Chen Mu planned to exploit his intentions to control him and establish a base. Mingye subsequently gathered intelligence about the Netherworld’s imperial courts and her own origins 431 441.

Chen Mu deduced from her meridians that she had both Human Clan and Nether Clan ancestry. Their search eventually brought her before the Manju Sacred King, whom she recognized through bloodline resonance. Learning that her mother had sent her away for protection—not abandoned her—gave Mingye a profound sense of relief 447 464 470.

Manju Imperial Court

Manju offered Mingye the Netherworld Scripture and began preparing her as a candidate for Netherworld Lord. Mingye first asked whether accepting the inheritance would prevent her from returning to the Pan Emperor Continent. She agreed to cultivate it to minor mastery before deciding whether to return 475.

She helped receive court officials before the annual sacrificial ceremony, but showed little interest in the political groundwork for inheriting the throne. When the Extreme Evil army attacked the ceremony, Lu Yi helped her escape the encirclement; Ye Feng subsequently captured her 475 476 479 480.

After comprehending the scripture’s first layer, Mingye remained in the Netherworld to command forces against the Asura Imperial Court while Chen Mu returned to the Pan Emperor Continent. During the ensuing campaign, she and Manju killed three Sages and injured the Asura Sacred King after he attempted to ambush her 503 552.

Sacrifice, Resurrection, and Netherworld Rule

When the Heavenly Emperor attacked an immobilized Chen Mu with the Ancient Emperor World-Destroying Sword, Mingye intercepted it. She cast the forbidden Seven-Colored Self-Sacrifice Curse, destroying the sword and severely weakening the emperor, but vanished in the process. Gu Ningbi recovered the bead and porcelain bottle left behind 671.

Mingye later awakened in soul form within the Nether River after fusing with soul fragments from the porcelain bottle. She challenged Chen Mu to prove his claim that they were lovers. His admission that he had no proof, followed by his declaration of love, ended her attacks; he realized she had been testing him 719.

Rather than immediately accept Manju’s position, Mingye proposed merging her own developing plane into the Netherworld so that her mother would not lose her Divine Realm cultivation. She completed the merger and became the Nine Nether Netherworld’s Great Heavenly Lord, while Manju remained its Lesser Heavenly Lord. Mingye then returned with Chen Mu to help defend the Chen Kingdom against ferocious beasts 720 721 727.

Appearance

  • Early appearance: Usually wears black clothing and a mask. Beneath it, she has a delicate face, bright eyes likened to shooting stars, a high nose, and somewhat pale, lustrous lips 51 52.
  • Nether Clan form: Pale-purple skin, pointed upper ears, and more sharply defined facial contours 175.
  • Netherworld Pearl manifestation: Purple patterns flicker across her body when the pearl merges with her 193.
  • Clothing: Often favors fitted black combat clothing. For a family feast, she wears a pale-blue gauze dress, a ribbon in her dark hair, and a butterfly hairpin 367 424.
  • After resurrection: Appears beside Manju in a long black dress 721.

Personality

Mingye’s early reserve comes from a childhood in which survival depended on vigilance and killing. She sleeps on beams rather than comfortably in beds and remains alert even among companions. Her habitual stealth persists long after she no longer needs to fear those around her 101 441.

Life with Chen Mu gradually softens her outward demeanor. She learns to joke, becomes moved by emotional stories, and loses much of her former icy bearing. Nevertheless, her drive for strength, sensitivity to danger, and refusal to die remain deeply ingrained 131 278.

She expresses loyalty through practical service. She accepts leadership of the Shadow Guards because Chen Village supports her cultivation and she does not want to live at its expense. She also delays pursuing her origins because she wants to help Chen Mu develop the Chen Kingdom 193 447.

Mingye dislikes crowds and has little enthusiasm for courtly status. Her compassion is selective rather than indiscriminate: she supports Manju’s wish to punish Chen Fusheng despite their biological relationship, judging his actions more important than blood ties 424 470 476.

Abilities & Skills

Assassination and Movement Techniques

Mingye specializes in ambushes, concealment, rapid movement, and attacks against vital points rather than conventional open-field fighting 53 101 181.

  • Shadowless Kill: Splits into three figures attacking from different directions 181.
  • Dagger combat: Uses swift, precise strikes; later trains with paired daggers and incorporates yin-yang power into her movements 281 423.
  • Marksmanship: Has dedicated Rune Gun training and can shoot accurately enough to eliminate enemies around Li Wei without hitting her 433.
  • Intelligence gathering: Investigates the Netherworld’s courts and organizes her findings into written reports 441.

Spatial Travel

Her spatial dagger can cut open a short passage, allowing instantaneous movement. An early demonstration carries her approximately three meters 62.

  • Uses teleportation to escape attacks and reposition in battle 102 231.
  • The Heavenly Net Barrier isolates space and counters the dagger’s spatial travel 102.
  • Distorted spatial perception can make teleportation dangerous, as in the purple mist surrounding the Purple Soul Crystals 217.
  • Teleportation does not initially grant flight; the little white fox catches her after she teleports into the sky during Chen Mu’s tribulation 231.

Yin-Yang Mystic Core

Mingye first cultivates Spiritual Power and Death Qi together, then transforms them into Yin Qi and Yang Qi through her Yin-Yang Mystic Core 193 281.

  • Immediately after Core Formation, possesses strength comparable to an ordinary Late Core Formation cultivator 287.
  • Wields freezing yin power in her left hand and scorching, vitality-destroying yang power in her right 288.
  • Striking the same location with both powers produces destructive energy capable of corroding large holes in Demon Kings’ bodies 288.
  • The core’s unusually high energy requirements make advancement difficult without outside assistance; Chen Mu develops the Taiji Yin-Yang Wheel to support her breakthrough 367.

Seven-Colored Heavenly Art

An inherited cultivation art that accommodates both Spiritual Power and Death Qi. Its emotional principles initially cause a bottleneck because Mingye cannot understand the feelings involved 89 134 276.

  • Curtain of Unseen Longing / Lovesickness Curtain: Used offensively against Miao Min and to escape with Chen Duo 102 181.
  • River of Longing: Erodes intangible structures such as Sage domains while doing little damage to physical objects. Absorbed domain power returns through the porcelain bottle to strengthen Mingye 637.
  • Nether Domain of No Longing: Encloses opponents and causes their ranged energy attacks to disappear 637.
  • Red spider lilies: Inflict overwhelming longing and soul-wounding pain 637.
  • Seven-Colored Self-Sacrifice Curse: A forbidden technique from Ancestor Yan Xue’s inheritance. Mingye uses it to shatter the Heavenly Emperor’s sword at the cost of her own disappearance 671.

After studying the Netherworld Scripture, she improves the art beyond simply entering the Dao through emotion, gaining control over feelings of longing 637.

Netherworld Scripture

The supreme inheritance created by the Nether Great Emperor, Wangchuan. It contains profound mysteries of reincarnation and ranks above the Seven-Colored Heavenly Art 475 558.

  • Helps maintain a stable foundation despite rapid advancement 558.
  • Supports her cultivation and combat within the Nether River, where she has a strong home-ground advantage 719.
  • Nine Nether Clone Art: Creates nine netherworld clones, each possessing thirty percent of her original body’s combat strength 727.
  • By the True God Realm, she has mastered two Great Daos and refined the Nine Nether Netherworld 727.

Recovery and Cultivation Support

  • Recovery Demonic Pattern: Chen Mu modifies the pattern on her back; it later helps stabilize her injuries after fighting Miao Min 83 102.
  • Regenerative cell technology: Prevents irreversible bodily damage while she absorbs tribulation lightning 278.
  • Computational assistance: Uses an auxiliary intelligent brain to receive Chen Mu’s insights and adapt to unfamiliar laws. Later, she can also employ computing power to comprehend the Rules of Heaven and Earth without possessing his Biological Intelligent Brain 561 720.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Netherworld Pearl — A peak divine artifact formerly belonging to the Nether Great Emperor. Mingye is its associated artifact spirit. It stores her sealed power, protects her in combat, and can free visitors from the Netherworld Heavenly Dao’s rejection 193 470 552 641.
  • Small porcelain bottle — Described as celadon, blue-and-white, and cyan in different passages. It awakens her Nether Clan traits, absorbs blood corpses and evil spirits, and produces a seven-colored protective barrier 175 462 671.
  • Yan Xue’s Mortal World Tears — Three drops held in the porcelain bottle; Mingye prepares to use one against the Celestial Person Race experts 637.
  • Spatial dagger — Acquired at the Myriad Treasures Pavilion with Chen Mu’s funds. Its spatial runes enable short-range teleportation, and Chen Mu borrows it as the foundation for the Flying Thunder God Array 61 62 67.
  • Silver throwing knife — A returning treasure artifact that Chen Mu estimates to be at least grade three 43.
  • Custom Rune Gun — Made by Chen Mu; at full power, it can threaten an Emperor Level cultivator. Even while her cultivation is suppressed, its physical mechanism produces shots comparable to True Spirit Realm attacks 433.

  • Miao Min — Childhood assassin instructor and source of Mingye’s deepest trauma. Mingye overcomes her psychological hold during the Heart Demon Tribulation and later kills her 101 281 295.
  • Leng Bi — Master at the Spirit Martial Hall, chosen for her exceptional speed and movement techniques 89.
  • Little white fox / Little White — Companion who initially calls Mingye “Mother.” She insists on “Sister Ming” instead, while forbidding the fox from calling anyone else Mother 231 368.
  • Li Wei — Attempts to rescue Mingye from Gao Fenghai’s forced marriage plan. Mingye later provides gunfire support during Li Wei’s battle 431 433.
  • Lu Yi — Manju court general who treats her courteously and helps her escape the sacrificial ceremony’s encirclement 476 479.
  • Heavenly King Beixuan — Opponent whose attack on the Five Elements Army Mingye intercepts. Mingye rejects her invitation to join the Heavenly Court and engages her in an unresolved battle 739.
