History

Origins in the Wilderness

The kingdom’s ruling clan traced its ancestry to the God-Slaying God Clan. According to Chen Hongjie’s account, its ancestors were defeated, branded a clan of “sinful blood,” and banished from Central Land. Their descendants maintained an ancestral refuge in the Wilderness and repeatedly used it to survive threats of extermination 49.

Chen Village’s early development depended heavily on Chen Mu’s rune inventions. Enhanced weapons and armor improved its warriors’ equipment, while automated rune production supported cultivation and everyday needs. The leadership initially avoided rapid expansion, preferring to strengthen the village’s foundations before seeking higher tribal status 13 26 48.

Arms trading later produced profits exceeding tenfold and financed rapid territorial growth. After defeating several high-tier tribes, Chen Village expanded into the Jianglan Tribe’s former lands and reached the Flame Blessing Tribe’s border. Returning to Central Land remained a long-term objective, though the leadership delayed awakening the clan’s God-Slaying Bloodline because it lacked the strength to investigate its ancestral enemies 196 246 274.

Founding

A heavenly god granted Chen Village a territory spanning one hundred thousand kilometers. Its leaders planned to pacify the region and transform the settlement into a capital suitable for a kingdom. The tribes within the territory submitted in approximately two years, while communications technology and other inventions raised living standards and reduced deaths 297 299.

After six years of development, Chen Hongjie formally founded the Chen Kingdom on July 1. He appointed Chen Mu Imperial Preceptor, named the Rune Research Institute the state religion, and conferred military and administrative offices on the former village leadership. The old inner settlement became the imperial palace 299 300.

Campaigns against the Otherworldly Demons

Chen Mu prepared an offensive through three military bases and a major expansion of military rune-puppet production. The campaign advanced toward Moon Capital Pass while the kingdom negotiated an alliance with the King Who Guards the West’s Residence. Its agreement addressed independent military command, recruitment, and military districts 304 353 358.

Kong Yu persuaded nearly two-thirds of Yi Province’s city lords to pledge allegiance. Chen Hongjie allowed them to retain their offices under Chen Kingdom law and gave the remaining holdouts three days to submit. The capture of Moon Capital Pass subsequently brought the remaining third of Yi Province’s territory under Chen control 366 374.

The Abyss Devil Race counterattacked, advancing on No. 1 Military Base. Its personnel escaped to Demon-Defending City, but the wider fighting cost the kingdom more than a million soldiers. The campaign also produced experienced elite legions, while efficient material use kept equipment losses comparatively affordable 391 400.

Attack on the Capital

The Heavenly Puppet Sect and the King Who Pacifies Jing’s forces secretly brought an army of more than two million to the capital. Saint Level experts and magic treasures helped them evade the kingdom’s reconnaissance artifacts 412 413.

Lu Hai’s troops broke through the city gates and threatened the inner city. More than a million were killed before returning warships and reinforcements helped reverse the attack. Pioneer No. 2 delivered the Demon-Slaying Sword battle-formation legion, while War Emperor Palace and Sword-Questioning Sect experts joined the defense. The kingdom subsequently halted further expansion to consolidate behind mountain barriers 420 421 422.

Conflict with the Haotian Empire

During Chen Mu’s absence, the kingdom occupied all of Yi Province and West Ge Province and more than half of Jing Province. The Haotian Imperial Family demanded these lands, but Chen Hongjie refused: the kingdom’s people had never been Haotian subjects, and its armies had taken the territory from the Otherworldly Demons 505.

Failed assassination attempts were followed by the detention of Wei Shuang and Chen Duo. The Wei Clan consequently broke with the Haotian Empire and submitted to the Chen Kingdom; Wei Shuang received the new title of King of Mountains. Heavenly soldiers and Heavenly Puppet Sect disciples also attacked the capital 505 520.

The conflict intensified when the Haotian Imperial Family publicly denounced the Chen imperial clan’s God-Slaying ancestry. Chen Mu answered by arranging a collective bloodline awakening and later led a delegation to meet Long Bo in Black Water City 626 627 631.

During the ensuing war, the kingdom deliberately feigned weakness while collecting battlefield data. After losing more than a hundred cities, it deployed unfamiliar legions and counterattacked. All previously occupied territory was recovered in less than two months, and the kingdom returned to internal stability 646 648 649.

Heavenly Court War and the Skyfall

The Heavenly Court’s offensive eventually seized a fifth of Chen territory, including more than a dozen large cities and hundreds of smaller ones. The government supported civilians relocating from threatened frontier settlements 695 696.

The collapse of Kunlun Heaven transformed the kingdom’s environment. Primordial-rich landmasses settled around its capital and hovered above important cities, giving the formerly barren region exceptional cultivation conditions. More than a million ferocious beasts descended with them, requiring prolonged extermination campaigns 717.

Chen Mu, Mingye, and Chen Haoran divided the work between mass battles, localized threats, and powerful individual beasts. Nineteen spacetime arrays then linked the kingdom with the Nine Nether Netherworld, and Chen Mu’s marriage to Mingye further strengthened their connection 727.

Continental and Starry-Sky Expansion

The kingdom’s later offensives included the assault on Guangling City and the capture of Rising Sun Pass. Its forces subsequently completed the occupation of Si and Yang Provinces over roughly a year, gaining resources and direct land borders with the Dragon-Toppling Society and the Far Northern Grassland 736 737 740 746.

With the kingdom dominant on the continent, A Huo, White Turtle, and other leaders pursued campaigns across the starry sky. Heavenly Emperor Haoyu and the Abyss Devil Emperor remained existential threats. After Chen Mu drove the latter from the Crimson Devils Realm, the two emperors agreed to attack the Chen imperial capital together in approximately half a year 748 751.

  • Territorial integration: Surrendering Yi Province city lords may remain in office if they follow Chen Kingdom law 366.
  • Rewards and accountability: Territorial grants and resource distribution are transparent, with impartial rewards and punishments. This helps limit infighting within the imperial family 627.
  • Public opinion: Advanced communications allow the government to maintain influence over public debate during the controversy surrounding its ruling clan’s ancestry 626.
  • Civilian welfare: The government supports wartime relocation and orders lenient treatment of residents who wish to leave the country 696.

Geography and Important Locations

Location Significance
Source Wood City Imperial capital built from Chen Village. At the kingdom’s founding, it measures more than four hundred kilometers on each side and contains over a billion residents 299 646.
Imperial Palace Former inner city; contains the court’s golden throne hall and the military operations command room 300 646.
Rune Research Institute Houses laboratories, rule-data infrastructure, and heavily armed defensive installations 283 413.
Demon-Defending City Major wartime staging point and refuge for personnel evacuated from No. 1 Military Base 312 400.
Moon Capital Pass Strategic objective captured during the kingdom’s advance into Yi Province 353 374.
Ten Thousand Mountains City Yi Province border city facing Abyss-controlled Si Province; part of the fortified frontier supervised by Wei Shan 520.
Ten Thousand Stars Pass Fortress city between Source Wood City and Night Nether City; the kingdom’s first city opened to starry-sky trade 680.
Wood Nether Hall Site of Chen Mu and Mingye’s wedding celebrations and later high-level diplomatic meetings 727 746.
  • Original terrain: The Wilderness is mountainous and forested, unlike the exposed plains encountered during the advance toward Moon Capital Pass 353.
  • Skyfall landmasses: Primordial-rich fragments of Kunlun Heaven greatly improve cultivation conditions and offer potential elevated defensive positions above major cities 717.
  • Later territorial reach: By its continental ascendancy, Central Province remains the principal part of Central Land where the kingdom cannot intervene. It sees no need to occupy the disorderly Western Region or East Sea 748.

Rune Technology and Economy

Research and Information Systems

  • Rule Analysis Device: Converts the understanding of heaven-and-earth rules held by Core Formation Realm and stronger experts into data stored in the kingdom’s data center 413.
  • Shared research access: Rune Research Institute disciples can consult digitized rules, giving them access to knowledge beyond what their own cultivation would ordinarily provide 413.
  • Spirit Network: Uses signal runes and the world’s Spiritual Power magnetic field for inexpensive long-distance communication. A first-grade spirit stone powers a communication mobile phone for several days 300.
  • Rune Core No. 4: Serves as a technological foundation for the kingdom’s Rune Technology era 430.

Industry and Living Standards

  • Automated labor: Talisman puppets become the core workforce because of their loyalty and efficiency 297.
  • Transportation: Anti-gravity runes require little Spiritual Power and enable mass production of talisman-puppet flying cars 300.
  • Manufacturing: Industrial production and metal-refining advances allow firearms to be made from ordinary metals rather than costly spiritual materials 405.
  • Civilian development: Rune Technology solves basic food and clothing shortages, allowing more people to cultivate and supporting specialized non-cultivation careers 521.
  • Resource efficiency: The kingdom uses rare materials more sparingly than traditional powers, making damaged weapons and robots comparatively inexpensive to replace 400 648.

Interplanar Trade

  • Starry Sky Passage: White Turtle develops an independent route that avoids the Heavenly Court’s occupied star route 559.
  • Commercial partners: Stable partnerships include the Thousand Illusions Demon Realm, where Heavenly God Di Lin usually resides 679.
  • Open trade hub: Ten Thousand Stars Pass admits beings from other realms, including the Abyss Devil Race, provided they obey its rules 680.
  • Netherworld exchange: Trade with the Nine Nether Netherworld benefits both sides, while Chen Mu also introduces rare Netherworld materials to the continent 513 674.
  • Exports and imitation: Particle missiles attract foreign buyers. Rival factions, including the Heavenly Court’s Talisman Department, imitate Chen Rune Artifacts without matching their quality or reliability 703.
  • Raiding threat: Devil Master Kane orders the Winged Devil Clan to plunder Chen cargo without killing its traders, preserving the kingdom as a source of trouble for the Heavenly Court 679.

Military

Organization and Doctrine

  • Technology-centered warfare: The kingdom’s main advantage is the weaponry supplied by the Rune Research Institute and Chen Industries, rather than individual cultivation alone 359.
  • Tribal recruitment: Many commanders come from Wilderness tribes. Their experience in smaller tribal conflicts initially leaves the kingdom short of generals prepared for armies numbering hundreds of thousands or millions 359 379.
  • Data-driven operations: Artificial intelligence gathers battlefield information to improve later attacks, including the final assault on Guangling City 736.
  • Mass production: More than five million military talisman puppets are delivered as reserves during the early demon campaign 353.

Strengths and Limitations

  • Cross-realm lethality: Skilled users can kill opponents a full cultivation realm above them with Chen Rune Artifacts. Cases exist of ordinary people killing Core Formation Realm cultivators 505.
  • Low energy consumption: Rune Artifacts produce immense destructive power while consuming relatively little Spiritual Power 505.
  • Training requirements: More complex artifacts are difficult to control and can injure their users; basic rune pistols require much less training 405 505.
  • Collateral danger: Some strategic technological weapons can threaten Emperor Level beings but risk devastating friendly losses, limiting routine deployment 359.
  • Territorial defense: Wei Shan constructs steel fortresses across the border cities. Taichu can appear anywhere within the kingdom, making covert attacks on its leaders difficult 505 520.
  • Material costs: Advanced equipment remains expendable: the Guangling City assault loses its large siege artifacts, while the capture of Rising Sun Pass costs three main warships 737 740.
