Yunyi turned around and casually patted his shoulder.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. I thought I could land that hit. Tatsuya, you're really fast! I can't match you there," Yunyi said with a chuckle.
Neither had gained the upper hand in their exchange of moves, but Tatsuya Shiba was indeed a little faster.
"Not at all. You're stronger than me, Yunyi," Tatsuya Shiba replied with a compliment of his own.
He wasn't merely flattering him; he meant it. If he hadn't been weaker, Yunyi wouldn't have been able to knock his arm aside and seize the opening.
"Saegusa."
Just then, Katsuto Jumonji, who was watching from the sidelines, suddenly spoke. "Stop them. If they keep going, I'm afraid they'll do more than just injure each other."
Mayumi Saegusa nodded. She also thought that if the two kept fighting like this, they might really lose control. She stepped forward and called out to stop Yunyi, who wanted to keep going.
"Both of you, stop!"
Yunyi, who was about to step forward, paused in surprise at Mayumi Saegusa's voice. He turned to look, only to find that the expressions of those watching from the sidelines were all a little strange.
Yunyi blinked in confusion and looked at Tatsuya Shiba. "What? Was our sparring that outrageous?"
Tatsuya Shiba was just as puzzled. "I don't think it was outrageous."
"Then why are they making those faces?" Yunyi was even more confused.
"Hey, you two!" Mari Watanabe scolded irritably. "This was a magic spar! A magic spar!"
"Uh..." Yunyi immediately felt awkward.
"I couldn't help it. Tatsuya's a monster. You could say he's completely immune to my Kotodama Magic."
Hearing Yunyi say that caught everyone's attention, even Tatsuya Shiba's.
"Um, could you explain in more detail?" Suzune Ichihara raised her hand, wanting Yunyi to analyze why Kotodama Magic hadn't worked.
Yunyi didn't refuse. He held up a finger and said, "You need to manipulate Psions to use magic, right?"
"Kotodama Magic belongs to Ancient Magic, but it's a very special kind even among Ancient Magic. To use Kotodama Magic successfully, the first step isn't to deploy an Activation Sequence. It's to connect your Psions with those inside the target and make them resonate."
"For example, if I wanted to use Kotodama Magic on Azusa, before deploying the Activation Sequence, I'd first have to make the Psions in my body resonate with the ones in hers. Then, when I cast the command, the Psions in my body would use that connection to directly affect the Psions in Azusa's body, producing the effect I wanted."
"But Tatsuya's a monster. He has far too many Psions in his body. Roughly speaking, he has at least thirty times as many as I do! With a difference like that, even if my Kotodama Magic can connect to the Psions in his body, I have too few to control his movements at all!"
Everyone was stunned after hearing Yunyi's explanation.
What was this supposed to mean?
What Yunyi had said was completely beyond their understanding! Was it really possible to control someone's movements by manipulating the Psions in their body?
But regardless of what they thought, Yunyi had indeed successfully used Kotodama Magic before. Tatsuya Shiba's situation was simply unusual, making him immune to Yunyi's magic.
"By the way, Tatsuya, your sister Miyuki isn't like that too, is she?" Yunyi asked, sounding somewhat uncertain.
Tatsuya Shiba didn't deny it and directly confirmed that she was.
"Tsk!" Yunyi clicked his tongue. "You and your sister are my natural enemies, in a sense!"
Seeing him like this, Tatsuya Shiba felt somewhat helpless. Miyuki Shiba merely glanced at Yunyi without any reaction.
Yunyi stretched and turned his gaze back to Mayumi Saegusa and the others.
"President Saegusa, you ordered us to stop, so that means you've reached a decision? Tatsuya can join the Public Morals Committee, right?"
"Of course. Although we haven't seen him use magic yet, his skills are enough to qualify him for the work of a Public Morals Committee member. As for his magic, we'll have another chance to see it. Let's leave it at that for today," Mayumi Saegusa confirmed.
"Good, good. My turn as a tool wasn't for nothing," Yunyi said with a smile. "But Tatsuya, I didn't expect you to be so good at hand-to-hand combat! I've always thought that, in terms of hand-to-hand combat alone, no one at First High School could match me. Tatsuya, you really surprised me! It's a shame we're classmates and can't let loose and have a real fight!"
"Yes, that's true," Tatsuya Shiba said.
In fact, it wasn't impossible for the two to decide a winner through hand-to-hand combat if they really wanted to. But if they fought seriously, they would certainly use some killing moves. In that case, safety would become an issue. Unless Tatsuya was willing to reveal his Restoration Magic Sequence, the two really couldn't have a proper fight.
Hearing their conversation, Mayumi Saegusa and the others felt somewhat helpless.
"Yunyi, Tatsuya, you two are forbidden from getting serious against students from this school at any time."
Hearing Mayumi Saegusa's warning, the two could only agree helplessly. They both understood that simple principle.
With the spar over, everyone returned to the Student Council office together. On the way back, however, Yunyi slipped away first, using the excuse that he had something to do at home.
With the earlier fight as proof of his ability, the proposal for Tatsuya Shiba to join the Public Morals Committee passed. Even Gyoubu Hattori, who had always looked down on Course 2 Students, said nothing to stop it this time.
After returning home, Yunyi lay down on the living room sofa. He carefully reviewed the events of the day and only relaxed after confirming that everything had gone according to plan and he hadn't revealed too much.
There was still one thing that concerned him, however: Katsuto Jumonji's sudden appearance. He was the head of First High School's Clubs Management Group, and by all rights, he shouldn't have appeared at that time. So why had he shown up at the Student Council? Was it a coincidence? Or was there some other reason?
Yunyi decided to wait and see. If it was just a coincidence, it would be normal not to see him around for some time. If he had come to the Student Council office with a purpose, then perhaps it had something to do with Yunyi.
The so-called recruitment week is next, right? I wonder if those rats in the gutter will make their move like they did in the story. If their plan has changed, that could be a bit of a problem for me.
Oh, right, there are still some things missing at home. Why don't I take tomorrow off and have a look around Japan in this world!
