Background / History

Upbringing and Leadership

Nausicaä grew up in the Valley of the Wind’s ruling family, surrounded by a tradition of education and practical learning. The elders taught children literacy and knowledge of different trades in Jihl’s study, helping cultivate her love of reading and habit of applying what she learned. Yupa, an old friend of her father, stayed in the valley for several years to teach her 17 19 25.

After Jihl’s departure, Nausicaä assumed responsibility for the valley’s survival. Food inventories, personnel assignments, and dispute mediation occupied the time she had once devoted to studying and flying. Her leadership kept order through successive crises, although hostile rumors blamed the disasters on the valley having its first female chief. By the time she left for Mining Town, her father had been absent for months without sending word 10 21 53 88.

Meeting the Erdtree

Nausicaä’s innate mental abilities allowed her to communicate with Mu En when he appeared as a young Erdtree. She asked him for a way to purify the spores and toxins threatening the valley. Although initially wary of religious allegiance because of Dorok’s destructive missionaries and warrior monks, she accepted his offer after witnessing the Law of Regression cleanse the surrounding land. Mu En explicitly assured her that he would not demand her faith 1 2.

After receiving his blessing, she led disaster-relief efforts against the forest contamination. Repeated use of the Law of Regression helped establish a kilometer-long firebreak, but the exertion exhausted her. She subsequently worked with Beruto to produce enough blessed crops to feed the valley for approximately half a year 3 4 6 9 17.

Reforming the Valley of the Wind

Nausicaä initially opposed Mu En’s proposal to distribute rewards according to contributions rather than equal shares. She feared that the change would undermine mutual assistance and disadvantage elderly or sick residents. Faced with suspected infiltration and an approaching armed threat, she ultimately decided to support his reforms and gathered the valley’s leaders to discuss their implementation 18 21 26.

The granary fire became a turning point in the Erdtree’s public reception. Nausicaä rescued the badly burned Pao and used Mu En’s power to heal him, the injured guards, and the gathered villagers. During the subsequent public celebrations, she identified Tolmekia’s plundering as the cause of the valley’s suffering and credited the Erdtree with its recovery 32 36 37.

Refugee Rescue and Resettlement

When Meila arrived seeking help for Pejite’s refugees, Nausicaä invited her to explain their situation rather than continue kneeling. She and the valley’s warriors later rescued the refugees from Insect Claw, then organized food, shelter, and treatment for the survivors 51 58.

Nausicaä also presided over the trial of the bandits and the valley’s collaborators. She helped devise the public demonstration in which Ohara received—and then lost—the Erdtree’s power, believing that Mu En’s benevolent image needed a visible warning against deliberate resistance. Alongside these punishments, she offered immigrants a route to housing, education for their children, and support in old age through the work-point system 64 65 66 68.

Mining Town and the Dorok Warship

Nausicaä personally led the valley’s delegation to the Commercial Federation’s gathering at Mining Town. There, she challenged Asbel’s proposal to improve Pejite’s living conditions merely by purchasing cheap food, explaining how merchants and established interests could frustrate the scheme. She then introduced him and Haideng to the Golden Order, curing Haideng’s Sea of Corruption Disease as proof of its power 87 142 148 149.

When Gore ordered the representatives attacked, Nausicaä fought alongside Doge and Trudeau against the Dorok warrior monks. She later flew out to intercept a Dorok warship bombarding the refugees, boarded it, and disabled its defenders. Her confrontation with Master Kabo led her to purify his cursed spiritual power, absorb some of the released soul energy, and subsequently advance to Knight Level 161 166 168 169 173.

Her intervention shifted the allied representatives’ view of the Valley of the Wind from a minor agricultural country to a major military power. During the wartime conference, leadership of the alliance’s response effectively passed to her 174.

Pejite and the Erdtree Alliance

During the assault at Pejite, Nausicaä’s squad was assigned to find Master Kabo because of the danger he posed to the other warriors. After Mu En captured Kabo’s soul, she confronted him over the civilian deaths caused by the war and learned of his plan to draw the Sea of Corruption’s insects toward the city 179 181.

Nausicaä prevented that disaster by calming and healing an injured young Ohmu, then returning it to the Sea of Corruption. The swarm summoned by its distress remained outside the city rather than destroying Pejite 187 193.

After discovering the regenerating Giant God Warrior, she accepted its Secret Stone from King Asumo and promised to help protect Pejite. She then proposed a close alliance centered on the Valley of the Wind and the Erdtree. Mu En entrusted her with Pejite’s reconstruction and the alliance’s organization; she appointed Haideng to lead local administration and alliance personnel work 195 197 199.

Appearance

  • Build: Slender and youthful, standing just over 1.6 meters tall 3 187.
  • Hair: Short reddish-brown hair, also described as red 3 26.
  • Eyes: Originally brown; become radiant gold after her transformation into one of the Golden Folk 3.
  • Blessing effects: Initially radiates pale golden light. During her Knight Level Divine Descent, her hair turns pale gold 3 173.
  • Flight clothing: Wears a full blue flight suit, with a flight helmet and goggles used during combat 53 166.
  • Formal clothing: Attends the conference in a thick dark-blue cloak and a helmet decorated with silver-white patterns resembling flowing air 157.

Personality

Nausicaä is compassionate without treating people’s dignity as something conditional on rank or origin. She tells Meila that no one in the valley needs to kneel to speak, reassures rescued refugees that they will not be enslaved, and treats the injured Ohmu as a frightened child rather than a threat to be destroyed. Her instinct is to protect ordinary people, even when doing so requires exposing herself to danger 21 51 58 187.

Her commitment to equality initially makes her resistant to Mu En’s contribution-based reforms. Nevertheless, she is willing to revise established traditions when the valley’s survival demands it. Her later leadership combines social guarantees with punishments for sabotage and a deliberate display of divine authority 18 26 64 66 68.

Although usually good-tempered, she becomes intensely angry when innocent lives are harmed. She also possesses a warrior’s pride and enjoys testing herself against Yupa. Their duel exposes her tendency to rely on overwhelming strength, but she accepts his criticism and acknowledges the importance of experience and concealed enemy techniques 26 32.

Her growing political confidence includes a playful, calculating side. At the conference, she presents the Erdtree’s powers as “ancient technologies” to attract potential partners and create opportunities to spread faith. In private, she remains a young woman under considerable pressure, finding comfort in conversation and quiet companionship with Mu En 69 88 159.

Abilities & Skills

Mental Communication and Perception

Born with extraordinary mental abilities, Nausicaä can communicate beyond ordinary human speech 2.

  • Communicates with animals, insects, and the conscious Erdtree; ordinary plants and trees convey vaguer emotions 2 22.
  • Perceives thoughts and concealed feelings, including the mutual dislike between Haideng and Trudeau 24 142 149.
  • Anticipates attacks through her own mental strength, allowing her to evade gunfire before the shots are fired; this ability is explicitly separate from the Golden Order 161.
  • Can exert spiritual influence on physical surroundings and sense the absence of a soul in the Giant God Warrior 32 195.
  • Her initial mental strength is insufficient to move freely within Master Kabo’s slowing mental domain 162.

Golden Folk Physiology

The Erdtree’s blessing substantially enhances her physical capabilities 3.

  • Gains heightened strength, reflexes, stamina, vitality, and sensitivity to air movement 3 25 26.
  • Becomes immune to the Sea of Corruption’s spores and airborne toxins. Ordinary poison, fire, lightning, and similar elemental damage have almost no effect while she has sufficient stamina 3.
  • Possesses toughened muscles and rapidly heals shallow sword wounds 25.
  • Remains vulnerable to sufficiently powerful weapons: Yupa’s Ohmu-shell shortsword cuts through her defenses 26.
  • At Knight Level, kicks a heavy ceramic-steel hatch into a bulkhead and moves at a sustained speed that appears like teleportation to ordinary observers 179.

Healing and Purification

Nausicaä channels the Erdtree’s power to treat injuries, illness, and contamination 32 149.

  • Order Healing: Cures Haideng’s Sea of Corruption Disease 149.
  • Healing blessings: Restores Pao’s burned skin, heals injured villagers, and repairs the young Ohmu’s damaged shell 32 187.
  • Law of Regression: Purifies contamination and removes effects to reveal things as they truly are. Against Master Kabo, it destroys the cursed shadow and releases its trapped souls 9 169.
  • Limit: Casting incantations consumes her mental and physical energy rather than depleting the Golden Runes in her body. Repeated purification can leave her severely exhausted 9.

Offensive and Defensive Incantations

Her Golden Order techniques provide ranged attacks, conjured weapons, and protection 85 149 161 169.

  • Order’s Blade: Forms golden cutting weapons capable of piercing an alloy wall and cutting ceramic steel. Her conjured holy sword cuts the Giant God Warrior’s flesh but shatters on impact 149 195.
  • Golden Power Hammer: Helps her defeat the warrior monks attacking the conference 161.
  • Wrath from Afar: At full strength, blasts a crater over five meters across, approaching the destructive power of a high-explosive shell 85.
  • Wrath of Gold: Releases a powerful radial shockwave that devastates the warship’s bridge, though it fails to break Kabo’s spiritual grip 169.
  • Shield of Immutability: Provides protection through the power of regression, but Kabo’s black spiritual attack can shatter it 169.

Aspects of the Crucible

Mu En teaches her Crucible incantations to strengthen her combat capabilities. She shows particularly fine control over their energy 166 168.

  • Wings: Manifests lifelike golden wings spanning more than three meters. They grant flight and respond naturally to her command of air currents 166.
  • Flight limitation: The wings are too slow for a direct approach through the warship’s anti-aircraft fire; she uses her glider instead 166.
  • Tail: Creates a golden, dragon-like tail that extends nearly ten meters and sweeps the warship’s bridge clear of opponents 168.
  • Controlled force: Keeps the tail intangible and restrains its power to incapacitate the defenders rather than crush them 168.

Divine Descent allows Nausicaä to receive immense Rune power directly from Mu En through the Blessing Link 65 173.

  • Produces Blessed Dew capable of regenerating Ohara’s severed arm 65.
  • After reaching Knight Level, freely controls energy transmitted across hundreds of kilometers 173.
  • Uses her mental perception to select people below and strengthen them with the Power of the Crucible 173.
  • Channels Divine Descent while bestowing the Erdtree’s blessing on the young Ohmu 189 190.
  • Uses the Blessing Link for battlefield communication and later tests the Erdtree Network by calling Mito 170 205.

Swordsmanship and Close Combat

Trained by Yupa, Nausicaä combines sword techniques with unarmed fighting and supernatural physical power 25 161.

  • Forces Yupa to use one of his Ohmu Twin Swords during their duel; he ultimately judges her no weaker than himself 26.
  • Uses punches, palm strikes, elbows, evasive footwork, and throws against armed opponents 161.
  • Employs Yupa’s plunging sword charge to break into an enemy formation aboard the warship 168.
  • Prefers and excels at close combat compared with throwing Rings of Light from a distance 166.

Piloting and Wind Riding

Nausicaä is the valley’s current Wind Rider, succeeding Jihl in a tradition associated with exceptional sensitivity to air currents 166.

  • Pilots her glider through fine body movements and weight shifts 53 167.
  • Evades naval gunfire and anti-aircraft barrages during her approach to the Dorok warship 167.
  • Her enhanced body withstands the violent airflow produced by the glider’s full-power plasma acceleration 167.
  • Also operates Gore’s flying pot to transport the young Ohmu 187.

Governance and Diplomacy

Her leadership extends from village administration to interstate negotiations 53 174 199.

  • Manages food distribution, personnel assignments, disputes, refugee integration, and development reports 53 68 69.
  • Identifies how merchant interests and distribution chains could undermine Asbel’s cheap-food proposal 148.
  • Uses affordable crops, healing, and carefully presented demonstrations of power to attract foreign partners 149 158 159.
  • Organizes the Erdtree Alliance and coordinates its Blessed officials through the Blessing Link 199.

  • Haideng — Pejite’s commerce minister, whom she cures and later appoints as consul of Pejite and head of alliance personnel 149 199.
  • Young Ohmu — Rescued and healed by Nausicaä, then persuaded to accept the Erdtree’s blessing. Its return to the forest prevents the waiting swarm from attacking Pejite 187 189 193.
  • Master Kabo — Opponent whose invasion and willingness to sacrifice civilians she condemns. She purifies his cursed power, while Mu En later captures his soul after an attempted possession 162 169 181.
