Background / History
Arrival in the Valley of the Wind
Mu En was an ordinary human in his previous life. After becoming an Erdtree, he retained memories of Elden Ring and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, but discovered that the valley’s circumstances differed substantially from the story he remembered 5 7 93.
His first successful contact was with Nausicaä, who could understand him when other villagers could not. With no reliable energy supply and atmospheric toxins corroding his body, he needed her cooperation to survive. He presented himself as a protector brought by the wind and demonstrated his value by cleansing and healing the contaminated forest 1 2 3 84.
Ending the Famine and Assuming Leadership
Mu En used Erdtree’s Favor to accelerate food production, making the Erdtree indispensable during the valley’s famine. Experiments with Beruto established that the crops still consumed soil nutrients: two rapid harvests exhausted a field, making fertilizer necessary for sustained expansion 9 14.
He proposed a contribution-based system in which Runes rewarded production, combat, and invention while strengthening recipients. The Festival of Grace publicly celebrated the end of famine and rewarded contributors with food, blessings, money, and wishes. After the reforms and festival succeeded, Nausicaä tacitly became his aide, and Mu En became the valley’s true leader 18 28 41.
He subsequently organized Blessed Warriors, expanded conscription, and pursued firearms and artillery rather than relying on supernatural fighters alone. Their early victories convinced him that Blessed were best used as a spearhead, not a replacement for an organized army 42 59 75.
Establishing a Foothold in Another World
The Golden Seed developing inside the Stone Platform eventually passed into the world of Castle in the Sky. Mu En followed it with his consciousness and established another body there. By absorbing Volucite energy, he grew into a giant Minor Erdtree and healed Valley Town’s wounded 93 106 107.
He recruited Dola and Muska, cultivated supporters, and planned to acquire steam technology and mechanical expertise for the Valley of the Wind. His preferred strategy was to undermine the Northern Kingdom’s old power structure through talent recruitment, infiltration, and shared interests rather than a destructive general war 107 108 116 126 129.
When Goliath approached Valley Town, he evacuated residents and confronted the battleship. The encounter revealed that he had underestimated his own strength: its bombardment was manageable, and his Crucible manifestations seriously damaged the vessel 118 123 129.
Pejite, Dorok, and the Sea of Corruption
Mu En directed efforts to rescue enslaved refugees and counter Pejite’s abuses. During the conflict with Dorok, he guided Nausicaä against Master Kabo’s cursed spiritual power and recognized its similarity to the toxins attacking his own body 151 169.
Following the battle for Pejite, he ordered surrendered Dorok soldiers captured rather than killed. Although more than three hundred Blessed Warriors survived without a single death, he identified serious shortages in manpower, anti-air capability, and long-range weapons 188 194.
Blessing a young Ohmu brought him into contact with the Sea of Corruption’s mental network. Its collective will identified him as a fellow kind, described Void as an enemy that consumed souls, and awakened his dormant golden-thread ability. Mu En remained cautious about its claims and motives rather than accepting the proposed alignment uncritically 190 191.
Recovering Mobility and Seeking Laputa
Mu En’s increasingly detached outlook alarmed him. Fearing that his human identity would disappear, he researched golden mycelium as a way to regain a living, mobile body. His eventual Erdtree Avatar restored physical freedom and helped revive emotions that had grown muted 201 211 212.
This recovery prompted him to reconsider his treatment of Muska. He acknowledged that compulsory blessing and control had violated his principles, then forbade Muska from imposing the same treatment on new recruits 213.
Mu En departed aboard Goliath to find Laputa. While exploring the floating city with Pazu and Sheeta, he determined that dwindling Volucite energy was causing its lower structures to deteriorate. He later confronted Astel, treating the encounter as an opportunity to test his avatar and refine his combat techniques 217 227 231.
Appearance
- Main body: A golden tree emitting soft light, with faintly translucent bark. Despite its appearance, it is an inorganic crystalline structure without cells, fibers, or vascular tissue 84.
- Protective glow: Maintains a golden Rune barrier against atmospheric toxins; this surrounding domain measures roughly thirty meters across when his tree stands fifteen meters tall 84.
- Later size: His main body eventually exceeds seventy meters, illuminating the surrounding valley like a golden ocean 200.
- Minor Erdtree body: A living tree more than three hundred meters tall in Valley Town, with mobile branches and roots 106 107 213.
- Mobile avatar: Approximately two meters tall, constructed from hollowed branches and crystalline energy, with golden threads functioning like muscles and blood vessels. Golden crystals glint at its joints 212 231.
- Golden Order sigil: Manifests four rings enclosed by the crown and roots of a small tree 5.
Personality
Mu En combines practical planning with an irreverent internal sense of humor. While maintaining divine dignity before followers, he privately compares powers to familiar entertainment and treats his role as a god as something he has had to learn to perform 2 43 93.
His leadership is reward-oriented and pragmatic. He recognizes useful work, invests Runes in capable followers, and accepts people from different origins rather than restricting his community to the valley’s natives. This inclusiveness also serves his survival: potential followers are potential sources of faith and energy 18 69 84.
He is protective without being indiscriminately charitable. He prioritizes Nausicaä’s safety, evacuates civilians before confronting Goliath, and gives freed slave laborers paid employment rather than funding every person’s journey home. He also uses intimidation, captive informants, and displays of divine authority when he judges them useful 53 66 107 118 194.
His central personal struggle is preserving his humanity. Prolonged immobility and the loss of direct sensation make him increasingly cold and rational. Regaining a mobile body restores emotional intensity and leads him to recognize that some earlier “convenient” decisions—particularly coercing Muska—were morally unacceptable to him 201 212 213.
Abilities & Skills
Golden Runes and Faith Conversion
Mu En converts faith into Golden Runes, which fuel his growth, perception, incantations, and protective domain 5 38.
- Faith includes positive feelings such as affection, respect, admiration, yearning, and devotion, not merely formal worship 38.
- Both believers and Blessed provide energy; greater Rune reserves increase his strength 5 38.
- Bodily growth expands his effective range and the power of his abilities 123.
- His living Minor Erdtree can absorb underground Volucite energy and convert it into Runes, providing a far greater supply than his early congregation 106.
Blessings and the Blessed Link
Through Blessed Dew and related powers, Mu En strengthens recipients and connects them to himself through a mental network 18 42 69.
- Blessings improve strength, reflexes, senses, thought speed, memory, and potentially lifespan 18 69.
- He can grant Erdtree Marks and incantations to Blessed followers 14 42 102.
- The link supports shared senses, remote instructions, and communication between Blessed without equipment or distance-based battlefield restrictions 6 188 190.
- Divine Descent temporarily increases a Blessed individual’s strength and lets him act beyond his normal root-bound domain 66 200.
- Golden apples allow permanent blessings to be stored, transported, and distributed away from the tree 204.
- He cannot directly read people’s hearts or freely control his subjects’ thoughts 75 204.
Healing, Purification, and Agriculture
His restorative powers range from nurturing plants to regenerating human bodies 3 14 107.
- Erdtree’s Favor: Heals and supplies vitality; also accelerates plant growth 3 5.
- Law of Regression: Removes contamination and abnormal effects. It counters Master Kabo’s resentful spiritual power and frees trapped souls 3 169.
- Erdtree Heal: Repairs severe wounds, regenerates severed limbs, and can correct congenital disabilities, but consumes substantial energy 107.
- Accelerated crops still require fertile soil; repeated rapid harvests exhaust nutrients 14.
Defensive Incantations
His defensive abilities differ from the versions he remembers from Elden Ring 5.
- Immutable Shield / Shield of Immutability: Creates a self-repairing golden barrier against physical and energy impacts 5 102.
- Its rule of “return” also protects the Golden Seed from atmospheric-entry heat 93.
- Erdtree’s Protection: Improves elemental resistance, physical strength, and defense 5 102.
- At his larger size, he shields Valley Town from Goliath’s bombardment, shockwaves, and shrapnel 123.
Offensive Incantations
Mu En adapts existing Golden Order powers and develops new applications rather than remaining limited to remembered spell forms 43 84 201.
- Wrath of Gold: Releases a destructive shockwave; at his earliest stage, full output could destroy the surrounding forest but exhaust him fatally 5.
- Wrath from Afar: Launches concentrated power that detonates at a distance 84.
- Order’s Blade: Produces a reshaping golden weapon that can cut granite, reform after damage, or reinforce a physical weapon 43.
- Elden Stars: An unlocked strategic-level attack with an extreme energy cost; he had not yet cast it when assessing his new powers 107.
- Litany of Proper Death: Supplies the energy for the double-ended spear of light he carries against Astel 231.
Aspects of the Crucible
Mu En combines Crucible incantations into manifestations of powerful vitality and physical force 123.
- Aspects of the Crucible: Beast produces masses of energy creatures with forms resembling lions, werewolves, griffins, wyverns, and angels 123.
- The creatures intercept Goliath’s shells while he maintains a separate defensive barrier 123.
- He also manifests enormous golden-red wings for personal flight 231.
Law of Gravity
Blessing the Fallingstar Beast creates a connection through which Mu En acquires gravity authority 129.
- His control strengthens as the beast grows stronger 129 215.
- Demonstrated applications include moving objects, forming a large Gravity Sphere, flight, and carrying passengers 129 215 227.
- His gravity repertoire remains less complete than his command of the Golden Order 215.
- Against Astel, an incarnation of the Law of Gravity, his newly acquired gravitational abilities are comparatively ineffective 231.
Golden Mycelium and Avatars
Awakened through contact with the Sea of Corruption, his golden threads are genuine living tissue rather than simple energy constructs 191 200.
- Threads possess cells and can survive independently for a limited time 200.
- They extend his sensing and Rune transmission beyond the territory covered by his roots 200.
- Potential uses include reconnaissance, infiltration, communication nodes, and access to distant locations 200.
- Individual threads are extremely fragile; useful strength requires dense weaving and significant Rune expenditure 200.
- Within his mobile avatar, reinforced threads enable explosive movement and high physical output 212.
Perception and Cross-World Consciousness
His tree form replaces ordinary animal senses with Rune-based scanning and greatly enhanced thought and memory 5.
- He can borrow a Blessed person’s senses, though he later finds this less satisfying than direct physical experience 6 201.
- By analyzing and reconstructing light, he develops independent sight and communication without relying on the Blessed Link 93.
- The Stone Platform provides a channel to his body in another world 93 129.
- He can attend to both worlds simultaneously while shifting his main focus between them 129.
- Rune-neutralizing powers can obstruct his perception, as Master Kabo’s black spiritual energy does 169.
Governance and Military Planning
Mu En applies knowledge from his previous life to state-building, industry, and warfare 18 59 107.
- Establishes contribution rewards, Rune-based advancement, and incentives for invention and production 18.
- Uses Blessed as elite assault troops while pursuing conventional firearms, artillery, and broader military recruitment 59 75.
- Plans to combine steam machinery, Ceramic Steel, and local resources to industrialize the Valley of the Wind 107.
- Advocates lasting rule based on interests that the majority willingly uphold, supported by force where necessary 126.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
