Background / History

Return from Seclusion

Yang Haoyu emerged from seclusion at his younger brother Yang Haohan’s request to help handle emergencies at Imperial Dragon Pass. Yang Haohan was overseeing the Demon Hunt Squad selection in the Holy City, while Long Xingyu was preparing for a Divine Throne trial. When an immense storm appeared north of the pass, Long Tianyin entrusted its investigation to Yang Haoyu 1.

Within the tornado, Yang Haoyu discovered a living child. He deployed his Star Domain to reach the center, rescued the child, and read the name Huo Yuhao from the jade token around his neck 1.

Adoption of Huo Yuhao

Examining Huo Yuhao to determine whether he was human or a member of the Demon Clan, Yang Haoyu discovered an exceptionally pure Ice Elemental Body. He recognized that the Magic Temple offered a more complete inheritance for such a constitution, whereas the Knight Temple’s ice-knight traditions had long gone unused 2.

His initial decision to keep the child reflected both institutional and family interests. He did not want to strengthen the ambitious Magic Temple under Li Zhengzhi, and the Long family’s rapid rise prompted him to consider his own family’s future. He therefore brought Huo Yuhao to the Knight Temple, intending to assess his knightly talent before considering a transfer 2.

Yang Haoyu personally raised the child and began teaching him stance work and sword handling once he could stand. Over more than five years, Huo Yuhao’s perseverance and ability to adapt techniques exceeded anything Yang Haoyu had encountered in his century-long life 2 3.

Awakening and Dual Cultivation

When Huo Yuhao reached 200 points of External Spiritual Power, Yang Haoyu offered him a genuine choice between the Knight Temple and the Magic Temple. Despite his earlier reservations, he did not want the boy to resent being denied a suitable path and promised either to support his departure or teach him everything he knew 3.

Huo Yuhao instead chose to cultivate both magic and martial arts, with knighthood as his primary profession. Yang Haoyu opposed the idea because earlier geniuses who had attempted both paths had failed to master either. He nevertheless conducted the awakening ceremony, stabilized Huo Yuhao through its extraordinary ice phenomenon, and confirmed a result of 100 points of Innate Internal Spiritual Power 4.

To test whether dual cultivation was practical, Yang Haoyu required Huo Yuhao to learn the available second- and third-tier ice spells within three days. This was stricter than the test proposed by other Knight Temple elders. Huo Yuhao mastered all seventeen spells in a single day and demonstrated enhanced, incantation-free casting, persuading Yang Haoyu to support his chosen path 5 6.

Preparing Huo Yuhao for the Wider World

Yang Haoyu taught Huo Yuhao Retribution Knight swordsmanship and assessed his ice-attribute modifications, including the adaptation of Sunlight Slash into Ice Slash. As the boy’s cultivation accelerated, he checked his meridians weekly. Although he found no damage or instability, he remained concerned about the long-term consequences of such rapid growth 7.

He attributed the unusual speed partly to Imperial Dragon Pass’s abundant ice-attribute Spiritual Energy. Rather than immediately interrupting Huo Yuhao’s training, he waited for a suitable opportunity and arranged for Long Xingyu to accompany him toward the Holy City. The journey was intended to slow his cultivation, consolidate his foundation, and expose him to practical combat 8 10.

Before their departure, Yang Haoyu gave Huo Yuhao a storage ring and his own Knight Temple Inheritance Ring. He warned him against studying skills above his tier, instructed him to prioritize survival, and directed him to seek the Knight Temple’s contact point upon reaching the Holy City 11.

Yang Haoyu is a demanding teacher whose caution centers on his student’s long-term development. He initially discouraged dual cultivation, imposed a difficult test before approving it, and worried about Huo Yuhao’s foundation even when repeated examinations revealed no immediate problem 4 5 7.

His attachment to Huo Yuhao gradually outweighed his original institutional calculations. He became willing to support a move to the Magic Temple if the boy chose it, and later concealed his reluctance to part with him because outside experience was necessary for his growth 3 11.

His affection is often expressed through practical care rather than praise: preparing meals, monitoring Huo Yuhao’s health, supplying valuable inheritances, and repeatedly reminding him not to risk his life out of pride 2 6 11.
