"Alright, I'll keep it for you for now, and I'll return it to your royal family when the time is right!"
Vic reached out to take the small wooden box, but when Vic tried to pull his hand back, he found resistance. Looking closer, he realized that the old king was still holding onto the box, his face full of reluctance.
Vic was speechless. If you want to give, then let go; if you don't want to give, then beg. After saying so much, you're trying to tempt me to stay? What a joke! Do you think I'm that easily subdued?
"Your Majesty, perhaps we should just let it go. Since it's a family heirloom, we should keep it and pass it down to future generations!" Vic released his grip on the small wooden box, withdrew it, and walked back to the window, preparing to leave.
Seeing Vic about to leave, the old king's face was full of struggle, his eyes darting back and forth. As if he had thought of something, a gentle look appeared on his face, and he quickly stood up, ran out from behind the desk, and stuffed the small wooden box into Vic's hands.
"Take it, take it now, don't let me see it again!" With that, the old king quickly took a few steps back, his back to Vic. He closed his eyes, as if afraid that if he saw it again, he would take it back.
A smile appeared on Vic's face. This little old man was quite cute. Vic glanced at the small wooden box in his hand and felt that the old king didn't seem to be fooling him. The contents inside might really be a treasure. He then turned his gaze to the old king's back.
"Your Majesty, you just mentioned that there's a saying about this treasure that's been passed down. Can you tell me about it?" Vic remembered that the old king hadn't said anything earlier.
"This treasure is worth more than the entire country, or something like that. It's just that we haven't discovered its true value all these years. Hopefully, you'll find something useful! Now get lost, and don't let me see you again!"
The old king told him anyway; after all, he had already given him the things, so what was there to hide? Then, he waved impatiently, urging him to leave.
The matter is too complicated. The old king didn't explain it to Vic in detail. The less you know, the safer you are. It would be better if Vic could discover the treasure's purpose, but it doesn't matter if he can't. That treasure cannot be destroyed.
Vico didn't say anything more. He would take this item seriously. He opened the window and rushed out, disappearing into the distance as the air explosion subsided.
"Well!"
A sigh echoed from the study. Although the study was on the sixth floor, the old king was not at all worried that Vic would fall to his death.
Paula had already told him how powerful Vic during the banquet, and he wasn't surprised at all that Vic could fly. However, he was feeling very complicated right now. He felt a mix of disappointment at losing his family heirloom, uncertainty about how to face his daughter's expectant eyes, and a sense of relief.
After much silence, the old king finally told Paula about it Paula burst into tears, heartbroken, and kept staring at the direction of the dock, tears streaming down her face.
That was a ray of sunshine in her heart, that was her faith from now on. The image of Orens Vic would be forever etched in her heart, never to be forgotten.
" Paula, if he can uncover the secret of the treasure, he certainly won't ignore you. He will definitely come to see you often!" The old king thought to himself as he held his daughter and looked into the distance.
Meanwhile, Vic had already returned to the warship using Geppo. It was already past midnight, but the warship was ready to set sail, and everyone was waiting for Vic's arrival.
"Set sail!" Zephyr shouted, and the warship began to hoist its sails, gradually moving away from the dock and away from the wealthy country of Xift.
" Vic, why did His Majesty the King keep you here?" Rebecca asked Vic earnestly. She had been afraid that Vic would never come back and would stay in the country as a prince consort forever. Of course, she knew that Vic wasn't that kind of person, but even though she believed him, she couldn't help but let her imagination run wild.
"It's nothing, he just wanted to thank me and gave me something," Vic said, waving the small wooden box in his hand. He didn't mention that the king wanted him to stay and become his son-in-law; there was no need for Rebecca to worry about such a thing.
"Let me see what this is!" Rebecca excitedly snatched the small wooden box and opened it to take a look.
"Ah! It's a ring, Vic! Did you promise them something?" Rebecca looked at Vic's face and said, her eyes welling up with tears.
Yes, the small wooden box contained a ring about the size of a finger. Vic hadn't opened it before, so Rebecca misunderstood, thinking it was some kind of engagement ring or token of love. She looked at Vic's face nervously.
Wendy also glared at Vic with a hostile expression. She and Rebecca were very close, and she couldn't just watch her best friend be abandoned by Vic. She knew how deeply Rebecca loved Vic.
Somewhat annoyed, Vic took the small wooden box from Rebecca's hand and looked at it. A ring lay in the wad of cloth. You could call it a ring, but it was a single piece of fabric. There were no gemstones set in it, only an intricate pattern around the outside of the ring.
Ignoring the two women's gazes, Vic took out the ring from the box and examined it closely. The ring was not wide, and its color was a pure lead gray. It was only half a centimeter wide, with a very simple and ancient style. The pattern was also something Vic had never seen before, intricate and complex. It did not seem to be artificially carved, but rather naturally formed.
"It felt warm to the touch, as if someone had just worn it. The patterns are very similar to those on the Divine Staff."
No! They're different, the colors are different too, but they're the same type. Could they be treasures of the same level?
If it really is a treasure of the same level, then I'll owe it a huge favor. What incredible luck I have!
This little wooden box is just an ordinary wooden box, but it wasn't struck by lightning while I was holding it, so it seems its purpose is indeed different. I just wonder what the purpose of this ring is!
Vic thought to himself, obtaining a treasure like the Divine Staff is already incredibly lucky. Even before fully mastering its uses, it has already greatly improved Vic's strength. Now, another one of that caliber has appeared. Vic felt that this must be due to his good fortune, and even the heavens felt they had to reward him handsomely.
"It's just an ordinary decorative ring, not a real ring at all. It doesn't even have a gemstone. Do you think a royal family would give such a shabby token of love?" Vic replied without batting an eye, then casually slipped the ring onto the index finger of his left hand. And it fit perfectly, to his surprise.
Rebecca was delighted to hear Vic's words, while Wendy was somewhat suspicious. The patterns on the ring didn't seem ordinary at all, but she didn't see any unnatural expression on Vic's face.
Vic really had nothing to be ashamed of. Although he had concealed something, it wasn't about his feelings, so he could speak with complete confidence about it.
"You two should go and get some rest. It's getting late. Girls age quickly if they don't get enough sleep. This world is very unfair to you girls!" Vic wanted to study the ring alone, so he sent the two girls to sleep.
What Vic said wasn't a lie. This world is really unfriendly to women. No matter how beautiful you are when you're young, you'll look like a deformed old tree bark, and you can't see any trace of your former beauty!
