Background / History

Transmigration and Laipe Island

Wei Ke awakens in the body of ten-year-old Orens Vic after pirates murder the boy’s parents. The trauma leaves the original soul frail enough for Wei Ke to take over. Although his mind is that of an adult, the body retains an apparent obsession with joining the Marines and avenging its parents 1 2.

Rebecca and her grandmother, Maria, help care for him. Vic begins intensive training, using dock work as strength conditioning rather than merely employment. Over the following years, he and Rebecca protect Laipe Island, where residents come to regard him as a hero. At fourteen, he leaves aboard Captain Buck’s ship 8 12 28.

Swordsmanship and Marine Training

In Shimotsuki Village, Vic meets Kozaburo and studies at Isshin Dojo under Koshiro. He learns swordsmithing and metal identification from Kozaburo, completes that instruction within three months, and forges a Grade Sword using the island’s available materials 17 31 32.

After Maria’s death brings Tsuru to the East Blue aboard Garp’s warship, Vic and Rebecca join the Marines. Vic quickly attracts attention by challenging Elite Camp seniors. Zephyr teaches him how to awaken Armament Haki, while Garp’s punishing sparring helps force the breakthrough 52 57 67 68 1202.

Vic becomes publicly known after defeating underworld officer Barrow and challenging Shanks at Sabaody. He matches Shanks in swordsmanship but loses in Haki; most outsiders do not yet know he is a Marine 75. He later receives the rank of Rear Admiral and an assignment as Garp’s adjutant, eventually becoming a Headquarters Vice Admiral known as Dark Dragon 326 329 492.

Disillusionment with the World Government

Vic’s service exposes him to cruelty committed beneath the World Government’s claims of justice. Direct encounters with its disregard for human life deepen his doubts, and he privately tells Dragon that he and his companions are allies in opposing the Celestial Dragons 254 520 533.

The Five Elders deliberately obstruct his advancement by withholding opportunities for merit. When a CP0 agent delivers Saturn’s order directly, Vic insists that it pass through Marine Headquarters, breaks the agent’s ribs, and forces him to contact Saturn 514 546.

Vic eventually defects after the World Government destroys an island. He and his crew become targets of both the government and the Marines, and he later fights Kizaru and three Holy Knights during this period of pursuit 595 601 611 1203.

Shichibukai and Titan Island

The World Government subsequently clears Vic of blame for killing a Celestial Dragon, preparing public opinion for his appointment as a Shichibukai. He establishes a base on Titan Island, using its gravity to improve his companions’ training 634 652 1203.

Vic treats the Shichibukai title as strategic protection rather than allegiance. He conceals his Revolutionary Army connections because losing that status prematurely would hinder the development of his forces 710. During these years, he spends much of his time cultivating, teaching his companions, and making discreet journeys in lightning form 679 729.

His title is eventually revoked, but Titan Island remains secure. Kuina and Yamato defeat attackers before they can reach him, and neither the Marines nor the World Government is willing to send forces into an apparent slaughter. Vic is later identified as one of the Four Emperors 822 836 870.

Opposition to Imu

Vic helps his strongest allies prepare for the God Realm and the conflict with the World Government. He visits Laugh Tale before the Straw Hats, records its Ancient Script, and deciphers Joy Boy’s account. He concludes that Joy Boy’s plans were meant to safeguard humanity’s future rather than secure revenge or power 1021 1041.

During the later battle against the World Government, Vic appears beside Robin and kills her attacker. His arrival reassures allies including Ace, Dragon, Marco, and Jozu, while the Five Elders recognize him as a major threat 1106 1107.

Correcting His Own Past

After traveling through spacetime, Vic intervenes in his younger self’s life to preserve the path he remembers. He places the Speed-Speed Fruit in Baiyisi the Tiger’s safe, redirects Marine ships toward the Divine Staff and Dimensional Ring, and drives away Kaido when the younger Vic faces death 1202.

He also becomes the black-robed figure whose overwhelming power once gave his younger self a new goal. Concealing his identity with Observation Haki Killer, he restrains his past self, saves people such as Katakuri, and later blocks Imu and the Five Elders while the younger Vic escapes with Sabo and Cobra 502 1203.

Appearance

  • Build: Tall and handsome, reaching 1.9 meters at fourteen; later described as having firm, lean, exceptionally well-proportioned muscles 12 294.
  • Marine attire: Wears rank epaulettes and a Marine coat during his service 326 329.
  • Swordsman’s equipment: Commonly carries two swords at his waist 509 838.
  • Thunder God appearance: At one point has Thunder Drums floating behind him; these are absent when he returns to carrying swords 838.
  • Concealed identity: Uses a full-body black robe when appearing before his younger self 1203.

Personality

Vic seeks ultimate freedom rather than supremacy for its own sake. He wants the strength to travel wherever he wishes and protect those important to him. Initially, he rejects the idea that he must save everyone, intervening mainly through Marine duties or when cruelty directly confronts him. Over time, he becomes unable to enjoy peace while ignoring suffering elsewhere 222 471 842.

His approach to training is disciplined and analytical. He prioritizes Haki, studies the underlying mechanisms of techniques, and adjusts his routine whenever progress creates new problems. His confidence does not prevent tactical retreat: he considers escaping a hopeless fight sensible, especially when speed gives him that option 167 185 347 382.

Vic is approachable despite his strength. He cooks for others, spends time with ordinary people, and dislikes elaborate treatment as an honored guest. His companions nevertheless recognize that he habitually stands at the front and takes the greatest risks himself 79 180 208 288.

His compassion coexists with considerable ruthlessness. He kills dangerous enemies and people who threaten his secrets, sometimes questioning how much he resembles a villain. News of slavery and Celestial Dragon atrocities can drive him into prolonged, murderous fury 344 514.

Abilities & Skills

Proficiency-Based Growth

  • Repeated practice improves his body, skills, Haki, and Devil Fruit abilities 68 498.
  • The talent cannot independently overcome bottlenecks, advance the Six Powers or Haki through breakthroughs, or awaken a Devil Fruit; Vic must resolve those barriers himself 498.
  • His strong constitution and stored energy allow rapid recovery from severe injuries 109.

Haki

  • Armament: Uses hardening, weapon coating, Ryuo, internal destruction, and emission. He can concentrate Haki from multiple body regions for stronger attacks 111 126 180 185.
  • Controlled emission: Maintains released Haki as an invisible wall, stopping Rebecca’s Haki-coated flying swords without coating his own body 905.
  • Observation: Detects presences, studies techniques, and perceives details within bodies. He later masters Future Sight 32 50 194 620.
  • Conqueror’s: Selectively intimidates targets and compresses the power into coating that damages both body and mind 583.
  • Observation Haki Killer: Conceals his presence from opponents and from his younger self 955 1203.
  • Early limitation: Superior control cannot indefinitely compensate for smaller reserves; concentrating more Haki lets him challenge stronger enemies only until consumption catches up with him 185.

Speed-Speed Fruit

  • Accelerates his own movement and released Haki 39 111.
  • Briefly slows opponents, disrupting Bullet’s timing and creating an opening for Ryuo 434.
  • Develops a Speed Domain broad enough to cover the Marine Headquarters plaza 818.
  • Initially encounters limits when climbing the Red Line, where thin air and the fruit’s incomplete development halt his ascent 121.

Rumble-Rumble Fruit and Bioelectricity

  • Transforms into lightning for travel, evasion, and combat 340 611.
  • Uses repeated lightning attacks to wear down Garp’s Haki and stamina; later also produces lasers from lightning 405 726.
  • Manipulates bioelectricity to incapacitate enemies, soothe emotions, remove toxins, and heal hidden injuries 420 429 797.
  • Detects emotional changes through shifts in a person’s bioelectricity 858.
  • Weak, precisely controlled electrical effects can be resisted with sufficiently strong Armament Haki 429.
  • Can regulate bodily desires, but distinguishes them from feelings and refuses to alter emotions tied to memory 834.

Swordsmanship and Mind Power

  • Uses one-sword, two-sword, and swordless styles; the last concentrates Sword Qi directly into his hands or fists 126 304 734.
  • Combines Mind Power with Sword Qi and Ryuo to improve penetration and internal damage 126 167.
  • Named techniques include Two-Sword Style: Golden Jiao and One Sword Style: Open Heaven’s Gate 734.
  • Builds Open Heaven’s Gate from Sword Qi, Mind Power, lightning, Armament Haki, and Conqueror’s Haki 734.
  • Matches Mihawk in swordsmanship alone, while holding an advantage in Haki depth and additional abilities 682.

Physical Combat and Aerial Movement

  • Uses Six Powers techniques including Shigan, Tekkai, Soru, and Geppo 57 236 492.
  • Incorporates martial arts remembered from his previous life 67.
  • Combines Geppo with wind control to carry passengers over long distances 679.
  • Uses aerial maneuverability to offset disadvantages against Garp’s superior Observation Haki 405.

Artistic Conceptions

  • Wind: Produces wind slashes, moves ships without cutting them, and rides air currents for travel 495 503.
  • Ice: Possesses an Ice Artistic Conception among the abilities available against Kaido 726.

Illusions, Space, and Laws

  • Creates illusions capable of inflicting convincing despair and uses them to prepare companions for the coming conflict 904.
  • Reconstructs Laugh Tale’s inscribed mountain in his illusory world for study 1041.
  • Draws Yamato’s consciousness into an illusion to demonstrate God Realm power 1021.
  • Folds space to reach distant allies and creates gates between locations 1021 1041.
  • Travels through spacetime and continues comprehending Laws after reaching the God Realm 1202 1203.

Craftsmanship and Other Skills

  • Swordsmithing: Learns Kozaburo’s forging techniques and metal identification; later transfers memories of those lessons to a young apprentice 32 846.
  • Memory and art: Never forgets what he sees and memorizes a group pose with one glance before painting it 32 216.
  • Cooking and brewing: Regularly cooks for friends and trainees and helps Kozaburo brew liquor 31 79 340.
  • Medicine and Ancient Script: Studies medicine with Crocus and deciphers Joy Boy’s inscriptions from Laugh Tale 846 1041.
