Background

Wu Qingce began martial training at the age of three under his father, Wu Fengmian. By five, he had mastered numerous hidden weapons, and by eight he had traveled with his father, defeating bandits and older martial artists alike. The praise he received made him arrogant; people called him the Little Flying Leaf Hand after his father's title, Flying Leaf Hand. 458

His confidence collapsed when Yuan Xingteng, a cultivator with extraordinary talent, defeated him in one move. Wu Qingce understood that effort alone could not erase an absolute difference in strength. He trained relentlessly for years afterward, but could not sense spiritual energy until he reached fifteen. He then entered the Returning Heart Sect and became a disciple of Chaotic Star Hall. 459

He initially sought Jiang Beiran's guidance after being assigned to the same training team. Jiang Beiran gradually made him an errand runner, supplying him with pills, weapons, formations, and Gu poison in return for dependable service and discretion. Jiang Beiran rebuilt Wu Qingce's ordinary constitution through successive Thunder Flame Body Tempering Pills. He admires Jiang Beiran almost without reservation and is eager to prove himself useful as Jiang Beiran's right-hand man. This loyalty initially makes him overly dependent on Jiang Beiran's approval and anxious whenever new disciples seem more capable than himself.
