Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Divine Ability Practitioner — Qi Refining and Bone Refining | 9 11 26 | Primordial Qi powers early divine abilities. Transformations of the Divine Ability Bone increase Primordial Qi while strengthening the body; completing three bone refinements enables advancement to Great Divine Ability Practitioner. |
| Great Divine Ability Practitioner | 50 53 | Breaking the Divine Ability Barrier permits a major influx of Heaven and Earth Yuan Qi and the formation of Divine Ability Dharma Marks. After this breakthrough, Lu Ming can sustain Perfection Realm Flame Blade without Fire Lotus Yuan Qi. |
| Divine Ability Master — Feather Robe Realm | 73 77 78 | The Divine Ability Feather Robe draws in and expels Heaven and Earth Yuan Qi, feeding it back into the body and establishing a deeper resonance with the environment. |
| Initial True Qi condensation | 78 79 | Intensively tempered Primordial Qi can produce a strand of True Qi. Lu Jin’s first strand of Thunderfire True Qi is not yet sufficient to make him a full True Qi Master. |
| Divine Ability Master — True Qi Realm | 41 | True Qi is an advanced form of Primordial Qi. It transforms the Feather Robe, strengthens divine abilities, and provides the foundation for a future breakthrough to Divine Ability Grandmaster. |
| Divine Ability Grandmaster — Dharma Net manifestation | 185 186 | A Grandmaster’s Dharma Net can suppress others’ control of Primordial Qi across a hundred li. Clashing divine ability law webs generate enormous waves of Primordial Qi. |
Nature and Refinement
- Ambient and personal energy: Heaven and Earth Yuan Qi enters the body and is refined into the cultivator’s own Divine Ability Primordial Qi 16.
- Divine Ability Bone: The bone participates directly in absorption and refinement. Divine ability imprints on it can assist the process, acting like small whirlpools 16.
- Refinement efficiency: Absorption speed depends on the Qi Refining Art, Divine Ability Bone grade, cultivation strength, and mastery of cultivated divine abilities 16.
- Purity: Lu Ming’s Glazed Heavenly Light transforms incoming energy into exceptionally pure Primordial Qi, allowing him to match third-bone-refinement disciples before completing his second refinement 16.
- Physical tempering: Primordial Qi released during bone transformation and breakthroughs strengthens flesh, bones, and skin alongside increasing energy reserves 26 50.
Cultivation Bottlenecks
- Near the limit of the Bone Refining Realm, the Divine Ability Barrier makes further increases in Primordial Qi extremely difficult 50.
- Lower-grade Divine Ability Bones generally encounter a harder barrier. Lu Ming’s sub-heaven-grade bone allows him to continue accumulating small amounts of Primordial Qi despite approaching it 50.
- Medicinal resources do not replace every part of cultivation: at the final stage of his second bone refinement, Lu Ming must circulate Primordial Qi and hone divine abilities to complete the tempering 20.
Sources and Recovery
| Source | Benefits | Restrictions or distinguishing features |
|---|---|---|
| Heaven and Earth Yuan Qi | Provides energy for daily cultivation and replenishment 16 43. | A denser environment improves recovery, but an influx exceeding refinement capacity can become dangerous 16 43. |
| Primordial Qi Pavilion | Supplies concentrated energy for bone refinement, with potential benefits comparable to a High-Grade Bone Refining Pill and no pill-impurity risk 16. | Energy enters continuously and becomes progressively denser; participants must leave before losing control 16 17. |
| Rain Pearls | Restore and strengthen Primordial Qi, aid bone refinement, and accelerate Divine Ability Dharma Mark condensation 30 110. | Black-rain contamination can corrode the mind even after ordinary refinement. Their energy can be used alongside Bone-Tempering Pill medicinal power 30 110. |
| Golden Pupil Spirit Fish | Increase Primordial Qi 70. | The fish themselves feed on Primordial Qi and are especially attracted to purer energy 66 67. |
| Red Jade Flat Peach | Strengthens the body and tempers Primordial Qi 83 92. | Pills using it as a main ingredient are said to help Feather Robe Masters condense True Qi 83. |
| Golden Pill Qi | Releases pure, gentle Primordial Qi that the Divine Ability Bone absorbs 100. | Pill Qi cannot persist for long and must be drawn into the body promptly 100. |
| Qi Ascension Pill | Temporarily adds the equivalent of five Divine Ability Dharma Marks to the user’s foundation 180. | Its increase is temporary rather than permanent cultivation advancement 180. |
- Healing Rain Pearls: Lu Ming refines Rain Pearls with Clear Qi and the Fire Lotus Pill Furnace, then tempers them with the Flame of Life. Their purified Primordial Qi can help heal injuries while reducing rain-Qi side effects 111 115.
Applications
Divine Ability Activation
- Primordial Qi follows a divine ability’s pathway to produce effects such as Flame Blade’s heated edge and Lesser Thunderlight’s enhanced movement 9 20.
- It can form weapons and attacks, including Thunderfire Whip, Golden Gang Sword, wooden vines, and poisonous seals 35 73.
- A Perfection Realm Upper Divine Ability can begin drawing on surrounding Heaven and Earth Yuan Qi, although on a smaller scale than a Divine Ability Master 124.
- Primordial Qi can also activate treasures, as when Guo Kui opens the Ten Thousand Scorpion Bag 77.
Defense and Environmental Protection
- A protective layer of Primordial Qi shields the body from heat and other hostile conditions 96 106.
- In the Black Rain Zone, it must repel or forcibly refine invasive rain Qi to prevent the loss of vitality 106.
- Lu Ming’s Fire Lotus Mark evaporates invading rain Qi more efficiently than direct resistance, reducing his Primordial Qi expenditure 106.
Perception and Identification
- Primordial Qi perception can detect unusual energy fluctuations, including Pill Qi within pill mist 96.
- Fluctuations reveal information about cultivation strength; Lu Ming distinguishes a Divine Ability Master from a Great Divine Ability Practitioner this way 107.
- Golden Pupil reveals Primordial Qi circulation, allowing Lu Ming to anticipate attacks and locate weaknesses in hostile techniques 70 78.
- A cultivator can deliberately reveal Primordial Qi fluctuations to signal their location 131.
Shaping and Utility
- Primordial Qi forms flight wings, demonstrated by Zhou Fuling’s azure-jade wings and Lu Ming’s jade-green wings 53 125.
- During spirit fishing, it becomes both a fishing line and a ball of bait; sustaining the bait consumes substantial reserves 66.
- It can draw in and refine pill mist to extract Pill Qi 96.
- Fine control allows speech to be carried privately in a thread of Primordial Qi 94.
Specialized Forms
Elemental Primordial Qi
| Form | Documented properties |
|---|---|
| Thunderfire Primordial Qi | Combines violent thunder and scorching fire; used by Thunderfire Hall practitioners 14 35 73. |
| Golden sword-force Primordial Qi | Produces exceptionally sharp sword attacks and constructs 35 123. |
| Venomous Primordial Qi | Carries deadly poison and can corrode an opponent’s flesh, as demonstrated by Guo Kui 73 77. |
| Flame Primordial Qi | Produces intense heat and fire-based attacks, including Blazing Fire Palm and Prairie Fire 36 153. |
Fire Lotus Yuan Qi
- The Fire Lotus Mark absorbs ordinary Primordial Qi and transforms it into a more powerful form that can temporarily raise a divine ability’s effective mastery 20.
- Lu Ming first uses it to produce a Major Accomplishment Flame Blade before his ordinary Primordial Qi can sustain that level 20 26.
- Experiencing higher-level operation also accelerates his understanding and cultivation of divine abilities 91.
- Its effectiveness remains limited by his underlying reserves: it cannot initially raise a newly mastered Major Accomplishment Flame Blade to Perfection, and later can only raise an Upper Divine Ability by one realm 26 91.
- Consumption is extremely rapid; once the transformed energy dissipates, the enhanced technique weakens or disappears 20.
Clear Qi
- Through the True Explanation of Six Refinements of Clear Qi, Primordial Qi changes into pure, ethereal Clear Qi intended for alchemy rather than combat 61.
- Clear Qi can become a Divine Ability imprint and manifest as a pill furnace 61.
- It extracts Pill Qi directly from pill mist, giving Lu Ming a substantial efficiency advantage over ordinary Primordial Qi refinement 96.
Blood Qi and the Transformation Technique
- The Transformation Technique combines Primordial Qi with consumed essence blood and vitality to create Blood Qi 82.
- Blood Qi can become an attacking slash or enable aerial blood escape; its power depends on the essence blood and vitality spent 82.
- Exhausting these resources damages the user’s potential. Lu Ming offsets the vitality loss with the Flame of Life, gaining a temporary surge of Primordial Qi against Lü Wen 83 156.
Environmental Regulation
- Qingyuan Market’s Divine Ability Halls occupy nodes along Primordial Qi Earth Veins 18.
- The Ward Lord’s Seal controls these veins and regulates local energy density. Zhou Xuan uses it to establish the Primordial Qi Pavilion 16 18.
- Environmental density has three tiers: low, medium, and high. Raising a hall’s tier improves cultivation conditions; Thunderfire Hall receives the high tier after its hall-meet victory 18 43.
- A ward lord cannot alter the veins without cause; the prefectural city oversees such interference 16.
- A Primordial Qi Formation stabilizes local Heaven and Earth Primordial Qi independently of this restriction, but large formations are prohibitively expensive. Only the Li and Yan divine ability clans possess one in Qingyuan Ward 16.
Limitations and Countermeasures
- Finite reserves: Exhaustion causes sustained constructs to collapse. Lu Ming’s Flame Blade disintegrates after repeated slashes drain his Primordial Qi 20.
- Refinement overload: Excess incoming energy accumulates, escapes control, and threatens severe backlash. Pavilion participants display pain, reddened skin, blood mist, and blisters before withdrawing 16 17.
- Strength is not decisive alone: Divine ability grade, mastery, and physical cultivation can compensate for weaker Primordial Qi. Lu Ming defeats Huang Qiang despite a three-Dharma-Mark disadvantage 143.
- Hostile environments: Heaven and Earth Yuan Qi is harder to draw upon in the Black Rain Zone, slowing recovery while rain protection continually consumes reserves 106 110.
- Energy consumption by outside forces: The Void Devouring Flame can seize and devour a nearby cultivator’s Primordial Qi 5.
- Grandmaster suppression: A Dharma Net can restrain control of Primordial Qi. Lu Ming’s Fire Lotus Mark releases him from this restraint during the attack on Thunderfire Hall 185.
