Background / History
Arrival in Qingyuan Market
Zhou Fuling comes from the Zhou Lineage of the Great Shang Imperial Domain. She accompanies her fourth uncle, Zhou Xuan, to Qingyuan Market to gain experience after becoming a Great Divine Ability Practitioner. Her early advancement astonishes the local hall disciples and draws the attention of their masters 15 148.
She also helps assess promising cultivators for Her Highness. Having examined Zhang Yue’s records, she suspects that his Divine Ability Bone may be a mutated high-grade bone, but the Great Golden Crow Hall has already recruited him. Zhou Xuan encourages her to meet the young descendants of the local Yan and Li clans while they continue looking for candidates 18.
Acquaintance with Lu Ming
Her initial interest in Lu Ming stems from his High-Grade Divine Ability Bone. At the Half-Pill Shop, she identifies a well-preserved Mid-Grade Bone-Tempering Pill by its fragrance and gives it to him. When he spends all his heavenly gold sand on more mud-covered pills, however, she mistakes his confidence for reckless gambling and revises her opinion downward 23 24.
Lu Ming’s performance at the hall gathering restores her interest. She subsequently escorts him to Zhou Xuan, who investigates his talent for sensing Pill Qi. As Lu Ming begins studying alchemy under her uncle, Zhou Fuling teaches him herb identification and medicinal properties, then insists that he address her as his senior sister 46 47 53 95.
Her confidence in him grows alongside a competitive streak. She openly envies his success at refining a Qi Refining Elixir on his first attempt, but also urges Zhou Xuan to support him, arguing that a small investment in his future could yield an enormous return 55 63.
Spirit Pill Jiao and Azure Jade Wings
During the Spirit Pill Jiao, Zhou Fuling joins Lu Ming in drawing Pill Qi away from Xu Xiong. Once only the two of them remain, she refuses Lu Ming’s offer to concede and insists on winning fairly. Lu Ming eventually feigns exhaustion so that they can leave together before she damages her foundation; she accepts a draw. Her final reward is nine strands of golden Pill Qi 98 99 100.
When Lu Ming asks to learn Azure Jade Wings, she explains that the inherited technique normally cannot be taught to outsiders. Nevertheless, she visits Thunderfire Hall and personally traces its cultivation pattern for him. Lu Ming recognizes the instruction as a major favor that gives him another means of surviving the approaching Rain Weakening Period 101 102 103.
Thunderfire Hall’s Conflicts
After Thunderfire Hall defeats the Peach Mountain Band, Zhou Fuling arrives with Commander Fu, verifies the aftermath, and reports the victory to Zhou Xuan and the other hall masters. She also brings reassuring news to Lu Ming’s mother, Zhong Ying 80 86 102.
During the Rain Weakening Period, her concern for Lu Ming leads her to seek permission to enter the Black Rain Zone with Commander Fu. Zhou Xuan allows her to go, warning her not to become deeply involved in the halls’ conflict and, if necessary, simply to ensure Lu Ming survives. She races to him using Primordial Qi Restoration Pills, but arrives after the battle has ended and pretends that she was merely searching for herbs 121 131.
She later explains the relationship between the four Spirit Banners and gives Lu Ming the other three cultivation methods. She intends the knowledge to improve his cooperation with the other banner cultivators and his chances of surviving the Sacred Ruins, while warning him not to cultivate the conflicting banners himself 136.
Fengyang Prefecture and Joint Refinement
Zhou Fuling travels to Fengyang Prefecture with Zhou Xuan and Lu Ming’s family. During the journey, she offers to support Lu Ming at the Golden Bell Mystic Gang Hall. After a disagreement, he reconciles with her by weaving a medicinal-herb bracelet, which she wears in place of her luxurious bangle 138.
At the hall’s birthday gathering, she publicly identifies Lu Ming as her junior brother. Huo Qing’s disclosure of her Imperial Domain origins astonishes the guests, though she objects to having her background announced. She later brings Lu Ming news of the Spirit Fire he has been seeking and helps him search for a qualifying hundred-year-old high-grade spirit herb 148 149 158.
In the Netherwater Flame contest, she assists Lu Ming through joint refinement: he fuses the medicinal ingredients, while she handles pill formation. Rather than stop at the Third Refinement, she risks a Fourth Refinement to improve his chances. With five additional Clear Qi strands apparently supplied by her Bloodline Divine Ability, she completes a brilliant silver Thunderclap Pill and hands it to him 166 167.
Yin Xi’s Arrival
When Her Highness Yin Xi reaches Qingyuan Market, Zhou Fuling escorts Lu Ming into the administration office, advises him on Yin Xi’s temperament, and defends him against Han Yanzhi’s dismissal of his qualifications. She also intervenes when her aunt frightens him over his unauthorized use of Zhou Xuan’s name 177 178.
In private, Yin Xi warns her that attachment to Lu Ming could bring trouble because of their different status and Zhou Fuling’s eventual return to the Imperial Domain. Zhou Fuling maintains that she admires his talent and character, then asks Yin Xi to help him obtain qualification for Jianmu Mountain. Yin Xi says they can reconsider once he becomes a Divine Ability Master 182.
Appearance
- Clothing: Usually wears emerald-green robes or a green gown 15 22 136.
- Features: Snow-white skin, dark brows likened to distant mountains, and bright almond-shaped eyes 15.
- Build: Tall and curvaceous, with a particularly slender waist, long legs, and an elegant neck 136.
- Accessories: Wears a brocade-leather belt decorated with plum-blossom petals and an exquisite cyan sachet 136.
- Bearing: Carries herself with noble poise and restrained aloofness, even among Fengyang Prefecture’s prominent young cultivators 147 148.
Personality
Zhou Fuling is proud of her lineage and abilities but generally expresses that pride through composure rather than open contempt. At her introduction, Lu Ming notices distance beneath her courteous smile. She dislikes excessive attention from admirers and later objects when Huo Qing publicly advertises her background 15 33 148.
She is competitive and stubborn when her abilities are challenged. During the Spirit Pill Jiao, she refuses to accept a victory handed to her and pushes herself close to her limit. Lu Ming’s alchemical talent also provokes frank envy, though it does not prevent her from teaching or assisting him 63 98 99.
Her relationship with Lu Ming reveals a playful, easily flustered side. She teases him about his reputation, responds readily to his jokes and gifts, and often disguises concern as protection of her “investment.” Although she explicitly denies romantic love, her urgency during his crises and Yin Xi’s later warning show that her attachment has become a concern to those close to her 46 103 121 131 138 182.
Abilities & Skills
Azure Jade Wings
An inherited flying divine ability that forms azure-jade Primordial Qi wings, allowing her to fly before reaching the Divine Ability Master realm 53.
- Enables hovering, rapid movement, and sudden acceleration in combat 53 92.
- Can release streaks of azure-jade light as projectiles 53.
- At Perfection, the technique’s speed can rival a Divine Ability Master’s, but its enormous Primordial Qi consumption prevents prolonged use. Zhou Fuling’s own mastery level is not specified 104.
- Teaching its complete pattern requires sustained effort; tracing it for Lu Ming leaves her sweating 103.
Mystic Jade Body
A family-inherited Upper Divine Ability for the physical body. Its activation covers her skin and hands in an azure-jade glow 53.
- Her palm shatters Lu Ming’s Perfection Realm Flame Blade during a spar 53.
- Her jade fingers deliver piercing attacks and break apart Ye Yuan’s Primordial Qi wind blades 92.
