Combined use of time reversal and Shinobi World Izanagi 258 Uses the Wanderer World’s damage-rewinding ability alongside conventional Izanagi to escape attacks that time reversal alone does not resolve.

Appearance

Danzo is an elderly, weathered man who normally presents himself with one visible eye and carries a cane 7 20 76.

  • Bandaged right eye: Conceals an implanted Sharingan; after stealing Shisui’s eye, he possesses its Mangekyō Sharingan until Itachi retrieves it 20 37.
  • Pale implanted arm: His original right arm contains three visible Sharingan when exposed after an explosion 36.
  • Hooded disguise: Uses a hood to conceal his identity while operating after his supposed death 59 76.
  • Wanderer World body: Initially displays its Sharingan-covered arm openly. Its Mangekyō has a pinwheel pattern that reminds Obito of Itachi’s eye; Danzo later keeps the right eye bandaged 201 253.

Personality

Danzo repeatedly presents his actions as necessary sacrifices for Konoha, including stealing Shisui’s eye and attempting to exterminate the Uchiha. He describes himself as the village’s hidden darkness, but his pursuit of the Hokage position and coveted dōjutsu repeatedly accompanies those claims 20 38 43 105.

His suspicion of the Uchiha is explicit and inflexible. He tells Shisui that he will not easily change his mind about the clan, interprets warnings about discrimination as evidence of aggression, and fabricates a kidnapping accusation when his extermination plan is exposed 18 20 31.

Although domineering toward subordinates, Danzo becomes fearful when deprived of his escape methods. He begs Naruto for mercy after losing access to his chakra and panics when confronted by the resurrected Tobirama. His treatment of Shimura Agou is less impersonal: he took the orphaned boy into his care and admits internally that he does not dislike his long-standing presence 33 75 113.

History

Root and the pursuit of power

Danzo studied under Tobirama Senju alongside Hiruzen Sarutobi. He bitterly remembers taking a half-step backward at the moment that cost him his chance to become Hokage. Hiruzen later reveals that Danzo attempted to assassinate him and seize the position 8 76 106.

As Root’s leader, Danzo repeatedly requests custody of Naruto for training. Hiruzen refuses, although he permits Root to expand recruitment among Konoha’s major clans. Danzo also seeks control of the Uchiha Police Force and asks to recruit Shisui 1 7 8.

Attack on Shisui

Danzo argues that the Uchiha might control Naruto and cause another Nine-Tails rampage. When Shisui reports growing resentment over the clan’s treatment, Danzo treats it as confirmation that action against the Uchiha is justified 18.

He later confronts Shisui, questioning whether the village’s prejudice can truly change and whether Shisui would eventually use Kotoamatsukami against him. Despite Shisui’s refusal to do so, Danzo attacks, steals his right eye, and orders Root to pursue him for the remaining eye. Shisui escapes using Susanoo, but dies afterward 20 21 22.

Hiruzen confronts Danzo over Shisui’s death and reveals that Shisui was Kagami’s last descendant. Danzo maintains that everything he did was for Konoha, while Root operatives move to protect him even against the Hokage 22.

Failed Uchiha extermination

Obito approaches Danzo under Madara Uchiha’s name and asks him to keep Hiruzen’s Anbu away during the planned massacre. Danzo recognizes that the visitor is an impostor but nevertheless agrees to participate 25.

The operation collapses when a Root leader openly announces Danzo’s extermination order in front of the gathered Uchiha. Danzo attempts to recover by accusing the clan of abducting Naruto and plotting rebellion. He then threatens Sasuke, prompting Naruto to intervene 30 31 32.

Naruto immobilizes Danzo, seals his access to chakra, and prevents him from using Izanagi. Naruto and Sasuke beat him while the Uchiha hold off Root. An ensuing explosion severs Danzo’s right arm, exposing its implanted Sharingan; Itachi then removes Shisui’s Mangekyō from his right eye 33 34 36 37.

Under pressure from the Uchiha, Hiruzen strips Danzo of his elder position, orders Root disbanded, and sentences him to execution in three days 38.

Staged death and continued operations

In prison, Agou supplies Danzo with another Sharingan. Danzo attempts to repair his injuries with Izanagi, but his weakened condition limits the technique so severely that it barely heals him and consumes the eye 43.

Hiruzen secretly arranges for Danzo to fake his death. Agou kills a Root subordinate as a substitute, and operatives dress and cremate the body to support the official claim that Danzo committed suicide out of guilt. Danzo returns to Root’s base and orders his remaining followers to find Orochimaru 43 44.

Despite Root’s official dissolution, Danzo continues operating in secret. He sends agents to capture Naruto during Team 7’s mission in the Land of Waves, but the attempt fails with heavy losses. Hiruzen subsequently threatens to imprison him if he targets Naruto again 74 75 76.

Exposure before the former Hokage

During Hiruzen’s confrontation with Orochimaru, Danzo hopes the crisis will clear his path to becoming Hokage. Instead, Naruto captures him and brings him before the resurrected Hashirama and Tobirama 105.

Danzo and Hiruzen expose each other’s wrongdoing. Danzo says Hiruzen ordered him to target the Senju, while Hiruzen reveals Danzo’s assassination attempt. Tsunade condemns both men, and Itachi identifies Danzo as Kagami’s killer, citing Shisui’s record that Danzo had used Kagami’s Sharingan. Itachi presents eye theft as the likely motive for Kagami’s murder 106 109 113.

Awakening in the Wanderer World

Before the awakening of his Shinobi World memories, Danzo the Wanderer already commands Akatsuki members, hunts the children of destiny, and has attacked Konan for refusing an order. He also places Obito the Wanderer under prolonged genjutsu control 201 208 254.

After a battle with Naruto and his allies, Baku swallows Danzo and carries him back to the Akatsuki hall. There, he awakens with memories of Konoha’s prison and questions why his Sharingan-covered arm is intact. He later explicitly distinguishes his new body from his previous Shinobi World body 231 235.

Seeking revenge, Danzo leads eight hundred black-armored warriors against the Demon Tribe. Naruto and Sasuke overwhelm him, forcing repeated uses of his ocular abilities. Obito the Wanderer subsequently traps him in genjutsu, examines his past, and notices signs of memory tampering. Naruto identifies him to the group as Danzo from the Shinobi World 256 257 258 260.

Battle at the final Akatsuki base

Obito the Wanderer guides Naruto and Sasuke to Akatsuki’s last base. They repeatedly inflict lethal injuries on Danzo, forcing him to consume Sharingan to survive. Danzo orders the imprisoned Deidara the Wanderer brought forward, intending to use the seal on him as leverage 280 281.

When pressed further, Danzo combines Wood Release with the Reverse Four Symbols Seal. Naruto withdraws with Sasuke and prepares to attack when Danzo reappears through Izanagi. Danzo is next shown trapped by Itachi the Wanderer in a genjutsu that repeatedly subjects him to greatly intensified stabbing pain 281 282.

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan

  • Implanted eyes: Uses Sharingan taken from Uchiha, including an eye identified as Kagami’s and the right Mangekyō stolen from Shisui 20 113.
  • Genjutsu escape: Breaks Shisui’s ordinary genjutsu quickly enough to launch a surprise counterattack 20.
  • Wanderer World control: His new body’s Mangekyō manipulates Obito the Wanderer’s experience of time to keep him under prolonged control 254.
  • Backlash: Obito’s attempts to break that control injure Danzo’s eye. Danzo cannot identify the original target from memory or simply withdraw the lingering technique 253 254.
  • Ocular resistance: His attempt to control Sasuke fails when the genjutsu space breaks, leaving his Mangekyō bleeding and painfully impaired 258.

Possessing Shisui’s eye is documented, but the supplied encounters do not show Danzo successfully casting Kotoamatsukami 20 37.

Izanagi and Time Reversal

  • Shinobi World Izanagi: Rewrites unfavorable events within a limited period at the cost of a Sharingan’s sight 43.
  • Chakra dependence: Cannot activate it when Naruto seals his chakra. Severe injuries also reduce the period and effectiveness of its reversal 33 43.
  • Wanderer World recovery: Reconstructs his body after dismemberment and reverses injuries, including the loss of an arm 229 258.
  • Renewable ordinary eyes: The Wanderer body’s spent arm-mounted Sharingan reopen over time, making repeated use possible after recovery 231 254.
  • Finite immediate reserves: Sustained attacks can exhaust his available eyes before they recover. His Mangekyō does not replenish in the same way 263 280.
  • Predictable reappearance: Naruto and Sasuke learn to attack where time reversal returns him, forcing him to rely on conventional Izanagi instead 258 281.

Wind Release

  • Vacuum Wave: Exhales wind-nature chakra powerful enough to shred a ninja’s body. Uses it against Obito and Naruto 25 32.
  • Limit: The attack passes through Obito without harming him 25.

Close-Quarters Combat

  • Rapid combinations: Uses punches, palm strikes, and elbows to overwhelm Shisui before seizing his hair and removing an eye 20.
  • Defensive reactions: In the Wanderer World, blocks attacks with his cane and shifts away from a Chidori aimed at his heart, though coordinated attacks still overwhelm him 229 230.

Wood Release and Sealing

  • Research background: Secretly researches Wood Release with Orochimaru, but considers their results inferior to Naruto’s displayed power 33.
  • Violent Spear Tree: Produces spreading branches around himself in his Wanderer World body 281.
  • Underworld Binding: Grows a massive tree from his body during his final-base counterattack 281.
  • Reverse Four Symbols Seal: Activates alongside the expanding tree, with seal markings appearing on his chest and blood spraying outward. Naruto treats it as a suicidal sealing attack 281.

Baku Summoning

  • Emergency escape: Summons Baku to swallow him and disappear before Naruto’s group can capture him 231.
  • Transport: Baku later deposits him in the Akatsuki hall 231.

  • Shisui Uchiha — Victim of Danzo’s eye theft and pursuit. His death becomes central to the Uchiha’s demand for punishment 20 21 22 37.
  • Itachi Uchiha — Retrieves Shisui’s stolen eye from Danzo and later exposes his role in Kagami’s death 37 113.
  • Obito Uchiha — Temporary collaborator in the massacre plan. Danzo sees through his claim to be Madara but accepts the proposed cooperation 25.
