Sage Mode

Sage Energy swirled around Boruto as a massive amount of natural energy crazily poured into his body, but this was far from a good thing.

If this continued, he would eventually turn into a toad-shaped stone statue.

Damn it, he had not noticed his body automatically absorbing Sage Energy. Without mastering Sage Mode, he simply could not stop absorbing natural energy.

By now, Boruto was already beginning to take on toad-like features.

My grand plans have not even begun. How can I die here?!

Boruto roared inwardly, enduring the pain of Sage Energy threatening to burst his body apart as his trembling hands formed seals. "Multi Shadow Clone Technique!"

Countless Shadow Clones burst into existence, filling every spot around them that could accommodate a person.

Having vented more than half his Chakra in one go, Boruto finally breathed a sigh of relief. But it was not time to relax yet, because he had no idea how to stop absorbing natural energy.

No choice, then. He could only make some noise and lure out the sages from the temple.

Thinking this, Boruto's hands did not slow in the slightest. He rapidly condensed a Rasengan in his palm while continuously infusing it with natural Chakra, making it grow larger and larger.

"Sage Art: Super Giant Rasengan!"

When the Rasengan had grown so large it nearly obscured Boruto's entire body, and the Chakra in his body had also been drained dry, Boruto let out a breath and casually hurled the sphere in his hand.

Amid the thunderous explosion, a huge crater appeared before him. The ground had even sunk several meters deep, while everything around it was shredded to pieces by the Rasengan's crushing force.

Such a muffled thunderclap easily drew the attention of the toads.

Almost in the next instant, the ground trembled slightly. A gigantic toad soon leaped over, its enormous shadow blotting out the sky. Tiny Boruto looked like an ant before it.

"Who dares cause trouble on Mount Myōboku?!"

The toad had bright red skin, a large pipe clenched in its mouth, a red rope wrapped around its waist, and a massive short sword tucked into it.

After studying him carefully, Boruto finally recognized him. By sheer coincidence, the arrival was Naruto's summoned beast, Gamikichi!

"Yo, Naruto?" Gamikichi stepped closer and immediately noticed the figure beneath him who resembled Naruto.

"I'm not him. I'm Boruto Uzumaki!" Boruto declared firmly.

Gamikichi froze, then examined Boruto closely. "Uzumaki? The same blond hair... Could you be Naruto's son?"

"Yes."

After receiving Boruto's answer, Gamikichi looked around again. When he failed to find a familiar figure, he asked, "You're alone?"

"It's a long story. I don't know what happened, but I got dragged in here somehow." Boruto sounded helpless. It was probably the Jōgan's ability.

"I see. Then I'll take you to see Big Brother first."

Once Gamikichi learned he was Naruto's son, he immediately lowered his guard. Other than Naruto's family, no other shinobi in the Shinobi World could come here.

As he spoke, he spread open his enormous palm, signaling for Boruto to climb on.

"Thanks." With nowhere else to go for the moment, Boruto decided to follow him and meet Mount Myōboku's Two Great Sages.

And so, he and Naruto missed each other. Naruto had only just left when Boruto arrived at Mount Myōboku's temple.

The grand hall was magnificent, with gleaming golden stone pillars standing on both sides. Flames burning in oil lamps illuminated the spacious chamber.

After entering, Boruto happened to see the Two Great Sages seated there in meditation. At the center of the hall behind them sat the Great Toad Sage.

Everything was arranged just as he had seen it on television. If he remembered correctly, this sage named Gamamaru possessed the power of prophecy.

"Hm? What is little Gamikichi doing here?"

"I brought an acquaintance," Gamikichi answered respectfully.

Boruto leaped lightly from Gamikichi's back and landed on the ground. His eye-catching pineapple-like hairstyle immediately drew the attention of the Two Great Sages.

"Could you be...?"

Before they could continue guessing, Gamikichi directly explained, "Naruto Uzumaki's son, a brat named Boruto Uzumaki."

"Hm!" The two sages suddenly realized it. Was this not the guest the Great Toad Sage had mentioned?

"Little Naruto only left a short while ago. Why did he send his son over already?" Fukasaku looked utterly puzzled once again.

The speaker had not meant anything by it, but Boruto inferred the reason he had been pulled in from those words. The Jōgan had probably sensed the Summoning Technique's call and autonomously created a passage, sending Boruto through it.

"Perhaps he wanted to entrust Boruto to us and have us look after him." Sage Shima immediately began considering feeding him again.

Why do I have such a bad feeling about this?

During their conversation, Boruto's body had once again accumulated a certain amount of natural Chakra on its own, which the two sages immediately sensed.

"Something is wrong with his condition. It seems he has yet to master Sage Mode."

"He has never encountered sage techniques, yet he is automatically communicating with natural Chakra. With such exceptional aptitude for sage arts, could this be why Naruto sent him here? To teach him how to master sage arts?"

The two sages speculated among themselves, and following that line of thought, they both agreed that this was the truth!

"Come on, little Boruto. I'll take you somewhere suitable for practicing sage arts. Besides, your father was once my student as well," Fukasaku said happily.

Once outside, Boruto saw the familiar layout. Toad Oil gushed downward from high above, collecting into a pool of Toad Oil.

However, due to Boruto's special constitution, they skipped the step of applying Toad Oil to help him sense natural energy and moved directly to the second stage: standing perfectly still.

Through absolute stillness, one could reach a state of emptiness in both body and mind. By absorbing natural energy and combining it with one's own Chakra at a one-to-one ratio, one could condense Sage Chakra.

Boruto understood all of this, but completely calming himself down at once was difficult—especially when he had to sit on a wooden plank atop a sharp mountain peak...

The first time he sat cross-legged on a plank under such conditions, Boruto felt unprecedented panic in both body and mind. The height alone rose above the clouds; such an environment made it truly difficult to feel at ease.

Boruto likewise used Shadow Clones to assist his training. After his constitution had advanced to the Pseudo-Six Paths level, the amount of Chakra in his body was roughly ten times what it had once been.

However, Sage Mode training could not be rushed. Like Naruto, he created four clones, and they all sat cross-legged on wooden planks to cultivate.
