Had her fearsome reputation spread?
After they changed direction, the goblins that had been at the very back were far ahead.
Unfortunately, they were the slowest of the bunch, and Xin Jiu cut them down with her bayonet once they fell behind.
[It's so over! When Jiujiu smiles, who lives and who dies is anyone's guess.]
[I feel sorry for these goblins.]
Now, quite a few viewers genuinely believed Xin Jiu was an expert player. She struck again and again without the slightest hesitation.
In just a few minutes, the goblins were wiped out.
Xin Jiu began taking stock of her loot.
She had killed forty-seven goblins in total, but only nineteen hearts had dropped. So much for that 75% chance. After killing so many, her drop rate wasn't even 50%!
She put the beads into her system inventory and began another search.
By now, her stamina had dropped to 60%.
The goblins in the final round almost all fought in groups. Whenever she came across a group of a hundred or so, Xin Jiu decisively chose to pass them up.
She had already killed over a hundred goblins, yet hadn't triggered a hidden achievement.
With her current stats, taking on a large group would be very taxing.
Sometimes, she couldn't afford to be too stubborn.
But if she encountered a small group of a few dozen, she would still charge straight in.
Six hours later.
Xin Jiu checked her inventory.
[Goblin hearts x242]
By a rough count, she had killed over four hundred goblins. She opened the points screen.
[Points: 23375]
Her stamina had dropped to 30%.
Continuing would only become increasingly difficult, because she could clearly feel her body growing fatigued.
So Xin Jiu decided to return to the safe zone to rest first, then continue searching for goblins after recovering her stamina.
On her way back to the safe zone, she found a convenience store.
The sign outside was tiny. Anyone even slightly careless would miss it.
She strode toward the convenience store. It was only twenty square meters inside, with shelves packed full of food. Everything an ordinary convenience store carried was available here.
[Whoa! It's all food!]
[This convenience store is way too well hidden. The game deliberately doesn't want players finding it, does it?]
Most players didn't dare venture this far, so they couldn't discover this convenience store.
Xin Jiu grabbed some bread and a bottle of blueberry juice.
She sat by the entrance and began eating slowly.
[Jiujiu still loves blueberry juice as much as ever.]
[That brand's bread is pretty good. I didn't expect the game to have it too.]
Once Xin Jiu had eaten and drunk her fill, she wanted to put everything in the convenience store into her system inventory. Besides food, daily necessities were essential too.
The annoying system popped up again.
[Notice: Your inventory is limited to 20 slots. Each slot can hold only one type of item, with no limit on quantity.]
Xin Jiu: "..."
Why hadn't it shown an inventory limit before? Now that she had found a convenience store, it popped up to tell her.
Was it deliberately targeting her?
Trash game!
After cursing the game several times, Xin Jiu took the biscuits out of her inventory, picked through the selection, and stored some food and basic medical supplies.
Of course, she had to take all the water.
The system: "..."
It had been careless. It should have set a storage limit for water.
After she rested for two hours, the sky had already darkened.
Xin Jiu's stamina had recovered to 85%.
A dark and windy night.
The time for murder and arson.
She didn't know whether the goblins had some sort of group telepathy skill, but whenever the goblins she encountered afterward spotted her, they ran off with yowling cries before even giving her a chance to take out her bayonet.
"Is my red jacket too conspicuous?" Xin Jiu murmured to herself.
The livestream viewers couldn't stop laughing.
[Looks like Jiujiu's fearsome reputation has spread among the goblins.]
[Goblins: If you see that one in the red jacket, forget everything else and just run!]
[If they all avoid Jiujiu, how is she supposed to farm points?]
Xin Jiu and her fans were sharing a brain.
She was pondering the same question.
"Hang in there a little longer. The safe zone isn't far."
"I really can't run anymore. Forget about me and get away on your own..."
Voices drifted faintly over.
They were players.
Xin Jiu headed toward the voices.
She saw a young woman slumped on the ground, while the young man was panting too. Both had suffered injuries of varying severity.
The young woman's injuries were worse.
There was a gash on her calf, seemingly cut by a sharp weapon, and it was still bleeding.
"How could I leave you? Get up. I'll carry you."
"If we run into goblins, you'll die too. Just leave me."
Were they a couple?
They were pretty lucky, then, getting assigned to the same instance.
Xin Jiu couldn't stand watching a couple being lovey-dovey and lifted her foot to leave. Suddenly, her outstretched foot stopped in midair, and her eyes lit up.
[There it is! The expression she makes when she's cooked up a sneaky idea!]
[A guessing game with no prizes: what do we think Jiujiu is going to do?]
Xin Jiu walked toward them.
They were surprised to see Xin Jiu, because she had been the best performer among everyone since the first round, and everyone had been wondering whether she was an expert player.
"Do you need disinfectant and gauze?"
The two were taken aback.
She actually had medical supplies?
But why would she give them any?
The young man's initial surprise turned to wariness. He shielded his girlfriend behind him. "Tell us what you want first."
Talking to smart people sure was easy.
Xin Jiu's lips curved. Just as she was about to speak, the livestream ended.
All the viewers in the livestream wailed.
Why did it have to cut off here?!
Couldn't they stream twenty-four hours a day?
Besides those in Xin Jiu's livestream, fans who had been engrossed in watching their own favorite streamers were making a fuss too. Without needing to coordinate, everyone went to the official website to protest.
Xin Jiu told the young man, "I need you two to act as bait and help me lure out the goblins."
Lure them out?
Did goblins even need luring?
Didn't they screech and chase players down to kill them on sight?
"I don't understand," the young man said.
Xin Jiu gave a brief explanation, and the young woman understood.
"So the goblins are all avoiding you?"
Xin Jiu shrugged. "I think so." Otherwise, why would they turn and run as soon as they saw her?
The two fell silent.
"You can discuss it. Of course, I won't force you."
If they refused, she wouldn't play the saint and give them medical supplies for free. Sometimes, medical supplies were even more important than food and water.
The two soon made their decision.
"We agree."
Xin Jiu handed them the disinfectant and gauze.
Once the young man had them, he immediately began treating his girlfriend's wound.
Half an hour later.
Xin Jiu took them to the convenience store first.
By the moonlight, they saw the goods inside and were overjoyed, but they didn't dare take anything first. Instead, they let Xin Jiu choose first, planning to take whatever she left over.
"Just take whatever you need. Don't worry about me."
She wrapped strips of rag around a wooden stick she had picked up along the way, then found some oil on the shelves and a lighter.
Firelight instantly illuminated the store.
She handed the torch to Li Ran, the young man of the couple.
He smiled sheepishly and said, "You didn't have to make this especially for me. I can see."
"..."
"I'm telling you to take this and attract the goblins later."
They couldn't see anything in the pitch darkness. Forget attracting goblins; they would be lucky not to get ambushed.
Xiaoqing thought her boyfriend was adorably silly.
She covered her mouth and laughed.
Li Ran scratched his head awkwardly and took the torch.
"This convenience store isn't exactly small. How come there's no water?"
He had even searched the storeroom out back, but hadn't found a single bottle of water, though there were still plenty of other drinks.
