Just then, Jiang Nuo heard a particularly crisp click and caught a glimpse of the dark hole that had opened in the lintel.
"Step back!"
Jiang Nuo shouted urgently and instinctively pulled Si Yan to the side to avoid them.
As soon as he finished speaking, everyone dodged and followed Jiang Nuo's posture, moving to the side. Then, arrows kept shooting out from the black hole.
The sharp sound of arrows cutting through the air rang out continuously, but fortunately it was just a door mechanism that only shot arrows straight ahead.
Si Yan frowned as she looked at the size of the cave entrance, then held up the item Song Zheng had brought back and compared it to the size.
"We need to use this to seal the mechanism before we can open the door."
Those hiding next to him were startled.
"Holy crap, how are we supposed to seal this off? Anyone who goes over will get shot dead!"
Jiang Nuo tried to take it, but Si Yan held her hand down, "I'll go."
Si Yan's tone left no room for argument. Jiang Nuo frowned, took an umbrella out of her spatial storage, and gave it to him, saying, "Use this to shield yourself."
Watching Si Yan leap into the air, the person who had just spoken looked at Jiang Nuo with a bewildered expression.
This guy has cannons and umbrellas all over his head, where did he come from?!
As Si Yan tried to block the mechanism, something else began to be mixed in with the short arrows she fired, gleaming with golden light.
Everyone was shocked. Someone picked up a gold bead that had rolled out, put it in their mouth and bit it, exclaiming, "My goodness... it's pure gold!"
There were even all sorts of dazzling jewelry!
Song Zheng scolded, "Don't go and pick it up! It's dangerous!"
But there will always be people you can't stop.
Thinking that the projectiles were all jewels and there was no danger, they rushed forward, lay down on the ground to pick them up, and even tried to steal them.
Three or four people huddled together, their pockets full of jewelry, ignoring the shouts from the other, more rational people.
"We're rich now! We can finally hold our heads high when we go out!"
Unbeknownst to them, the jewelry had stopped, and before Si Yan could block the hole, an even sharper short arrow was fired again.
"Come back soon!"
Song Zheng watched anxiously, firing bullets to deflect several short arrows, but to no avail.
By the time the four people realized what was happening and turned around, they had already become easy targets.
He was riddled with arrows and collapsed to the ground, dead.
The brothers who were still shouting froze. Song Zheng sighed and wiped his face. He turned around and saw that Jiang Nuo's expression was calm, and she was only paying attention to Si Yan.
Jiang Nuo glanced at him, perhaps knowing what Song Zheng wanted to ask.
"It wasn't my fault." He was still smiling, but his eyes roamed over the faces of the fallen corpses. His eyes, which were not closed, showed only black pupils, with no whites. In the dim light, others could not see him clearly.
Jiang Nuo looked away.
Taking advantage of the half-second gap while the short arrow was being replaced, Si Yan inserted the stone in her hand into the hole and turned it in the direction Jiang Nuo was rotating her eyes.
After a crisp click, the mechanism slowly closed.
Si Yan leaped down, landing just as the jade door opened.
"Wow, that's amazing~" Jiang Nuo gave him a look, Si Yan's expressionless handsome face immediately lit up with a smile as he reached out to take his hand.
The group passed through the jade gate and entered a very spacious tomb chamber.
The steps in the very center of the tomb chamber were filled with fierce-looking black jade Buddhas, each about the size of a palm, arranged haphazardly and without any apparent pattern.
Jiang Nuo glanced at the number of jade Buddhas, blinked in confusion, then turned to look at the crowd who hadn't yet reacted, and exclaimed "Oh!"
"The number of black jade Buddhas matches your current number."
"What do you mean! Who knew someone would die just now!"
Jiang Nuo's words were truly chilling. While they were making a ruckus, Jiang Nuo observed the structure of the tomb chamber and responded casually.
"Maybe it's just a coincidence."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a loud bang was heard.
The two jade Buddhas at the bottom shattered and exploded violently. Before anyone could react, the steps retracted into the ground and returned to being stone slabs.
All of this happened so fast that only fragments of two jade Buddhas remain to demonstrate their existence.
"Wow," Jiang Nuo exclaimed, "I'm so sorry."
Who knew it would break?
Sure enough, the brothers who hadn't believed it before suddenly erupted in chaos, speculating that two more people were going to die.
Others speculated on another possibility. "What if... it means that if only two more people die, we can continue moving forward?"
The atmosphere immediately fell silent.
Jiang Nuo gave the person who made the suggestion a thumbs up, "You really are even worse at talking than I am."
These people were already suspicious of each other because of who was the cursed one, and this suspicion made them even more wary, fearing that someone might stab them in the back.
However, Jiang Nuo and Si Yan were both observing the tomb chamber and showed no intention of participating in their speculations.
With the jade Buddha gone, the most conspicuous things left in the tomb were the three giant general statues in the east, south, and north. They were at least four meters tall, holding giant axes and glaring angrily.
The door they entered through faced west. Jiang Nuo looked back and saw that the black jade door was tightly closed, and on the back was a relief of a general, which was equally shocking.
Being there, it felt as if every move was being watched closely by the four generals, which was truly frightening.
Of course, this does not include Jiang Nuo.
He slowly circled around inside, drawing incantations with his fingers, while Si Yan assisted him. The two of them determined the center point that the four generals were simultaneously watching.
The noisy brothers quieted down; although they didn't know what the two were doing, they didn't dare to disturb them.
Simazi, however, stared intently at Jiang Nuo's incantation technique, his expression somewhat grave.
A Wu remained silent, following his father as if he had been terrified.
Once the center point is found, the mechanism can be activated.
Jiang Nuo stepped on it, but there was nothing there.
