Background / History
Childhood and Family
Si Yan’s parents are Si Xun and Yang He. Si Mingde initially tells Jiang Nuo that Si Yong arranged the trap that killed Si Yan’s father and that his mother died of grief afterward. Much later, the Illusory Calamity Cage shows Si Yan memories of both parents fighting in the previous generation’s struggle against Aberrant Monsters 200 359 361.
His unusual body made him a target within the Si Family. Yang Hong discovered that relatives wanted him dead and that he was repeatedly injured and subjected to blood extraction. Unable to confront the family directly, she brought him into entertainment as a child star, hoping public recognition would prevent him from disappearing unnoticed 58.
As a child, Si Yan underwent forty-nine days of tempering with resentful fiends from twelve coffins after the Spirit-Suppressing Stone was placed over his heart. The extra soul and overwhelming Spiritual Power caused such severe pain that he wished to die. An illusion later forces him to relive that suffering 86.
Entertainment Career
Si Yan became an award-winning actor, but his frequent injuries and bouts of illness remained well known in the industry. A clip of him suffering an episode while suspended in a wire harness before adulthood became a recurring target of mockery, despite his explanation that he had been unwell 11 117 180.
| Production / Appearance | Role and Details |
|---|---|
| Weird and Strange Adventure | Participates alongside Jiang Nuo in supernatural investigations and increasingly dangerous incidents 19 329. |
| Brocade Rivers and Mountains | Plays Xuanyuan Li opposite Jiang Nuo’s general, Juechen. Their early scenes depict friendship before their characters become enemies 108. |
| Unnamed supernatural production | Plays a villain with the ability to kill remotely. His final scene ends with the character killed by spirit-channeling magic 67. |
| Heartbeat Infinitive | Agrees to appear with Jiang Nuo as a guest star on the dating show 178. |
Appearance
- Build and bearing: Tall and slender, with a refined, handsome face and an aristocratic presence 28 49.
- Eyes: Distinctive phoenix-shaped eyes, often cold toward others but visibly softened around Jiang Nuo 10 31 320.
- Complexion: Usually pale; exertion and power instability can leave him bloodless and sweating. His complexion becomes noticeably rosier when his condition improves 7 49 94.
- Clothing: Wears black and gray coats in public and silk loungewear at home 49 117 178.
Personality
Si Yan is aloof, severe, and difficult to approach in public. Around Jiang Nuo, he becomes openly affectionate, seeks physical reassurance, and readily asks to be held. This contrast is visible both when he drops his fragile manner after Jiang Nuo leaves and when his stern expression during association training immediately softens at the sight of him 28 320.
He deliberately exaggerates helplessness to receive Jiang Nuo’s attention, concealing his attacks and presenting himself as frightened afterward. His physical vulnerability is nevertheless real: intensive power use causes dizziness, pain, and dangerous instability. He endures severe suffering silently when alone, while allowing himself to express it to Jiang Nuo 31 86 94 100 200.
His attachment is intensely possessive. Zhou Yize’s interest in Jiang Nuo provokes jealousy and violent thoughts, while the Love Soul dispute exposes his fear of abandonment. He later reasons that Jiang Nuo gave him hope and a reason to remain connected to the world, regardless of whose soul the stone contained 117 129 132.
Si Yan strongly dislikes dirt, slime, decay, and unwanted contact. These aversions often explain his apparent fear of monsters. He nevertheless tolerates mud for a demanding performance and disregards Jiang Nuo’s blood-covered condition when reassuring him after battle 23 67 75 94 196.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Meeting Jiang Nuo
During the ancient-mansion investigation, Si Yan recognizes Jiang Nuo as the person a voice in his dreams had directed him toward. Jiang Nuo drinks his blood to stabilize his soul, simultaneously warming Si Yan and healing his injury. Si Yan concludes that Jiang Nuo can relieve his suffering and change his fate of dying young 7.
System 0732 subsequently identifies protecting the world’s “tragic villain,” Si Yan, as Jiang Nuo’s main quest. Although Si Yan initially appears dependent on protection, he secretly uses substantial power and is later revealed to belong to the Dao Xuan Association 11 31 94 124.
Bone Witch Tribe
Si Yan tears through an illusion of his childhood treatment and later reveals his strength during the tribe’s walking-corpse crisis. His confrontation with A Man sends his power into turmoil; Jiang Nuo responds by comforting him rather than condemning his concealed abilities. Progress toward changing Si Yan’s tragic ending rises to 10% 86 94 100.
Love Soul Conflict
Jiang Nuo discovers that the living soul inside Si Yan’s Spirit-Suppressing Stone is his missing Love Soul and questions whether Si Yan’s love is genuine. Unable to answer, Si Yan offers to return it and threatens self-harm when Jiang Nuo tries to leave. Jiang Nuo intervenes and arranges for Si Mingde to take him home temporarily 129.
Si Yan later hopes the Dragon Vein’s spiritual source can suppress his power enough to separate the Love Soul from the stone. After the soul returns, he comforts Jiang Nuo through uncontrollable crying and plans to consult his grandfather about the symptoms 178 249.
Dark Power and the Demon Town
A Dark Power attack suppresses Si Yan’s Spiritual Power and leaves him unconscious. Jiang Nuo uses blood spells and demonic qi to counter it; after recovering, Si Yan insists on staying to destroy the threat 182 183.
His later battle against Dark Power results in the purification of his Spiritual Power. During the town incident, his soul is restored to his body, and he subsequently kills two demons while racing to reunite with Jiang Nuo. The exertion leaves his power chaotic, and he loses consciousness in the underground river before waking beside him 195 231 237.
Ghost Prince and Past-Life Memories
The Ghost Prince identifies Si Yan as the reincarnation of his imperial brother and tries to make him merge with a memory soul stone. Si Yan refuses to identify himself with his past life. He and Jiang Nuo defeat the prince, whom Si Yan restrains for the Underworld officers 290 291 292.
Imperial Capital Crisis
Si Yan discovers that reflective surfaces allow Aberrant Monsters to split. He destroys a giant screen, summons association members, and joins Jiang Nuo in a livestream urging residents to smash reflective objects. Their efforts help mobilize the city and reduce the negative emotions feeding the underground monster 314 315.
Final Dragon Vein Expedition
Si Yan joins the mission to repair Feng Mountain’s Dragon Vein despite his anger over Si Yong’s participation. In the Illusory Calamity Cage, he resists a voice attempting to turn him against Jiang Nuo, meets Gui Ci, and escapes shortly before the sixty-minute limit 325 359 361.
During the final confrontation, he shields Jiang Nuo and unleashes a formation of countless spiritual blades. He later carries his sleeping lover through the opened barrier, promising Gui Ci that he will care for him. After Jiang Nuo wakes from fifteen days of sleep, the two plan to visit Feng Mountain and spend time resting together 376 378 380.
