Before them lay a spider the size of a small horse, on which was a human figure. Its cold appearance sent chills down the spines of anyone who dared to look directly into its eyes. It was tall and pale, its skin as cold as death itself. On its translucent, pale skin was armor made of ice, shimmering with the glow of orange torches.
Its eyes gleamed like ice shards, piercing Sam's soul. His mother had always told him stories of the Others and the giant ice spiders they rode, creatures that had kept him awake countless nights, but now, those creatures were right before them.
Ghost stood before Jon. The Direwolf was trying to protect his companion, but you could tell from his fur that he was agitated. Every single hair on his fur was so straight you could count them one by one.
The spider's eight legs advanced towards them with extraordinary speed, its icy breath freezing the air. Edd bravely stepped forward, torch in hand, waving it before the beast in an attempt to stop its advance.
Following closely behind, Ghost also launched an attack, biting one of the beast's eight legs. The beast's exoskeleton was very hard, Ghost couldn't tear the leg off, but it did manage to create a crack in its shell. As the Others attacked Sam, Pyp pushed Sam toward the spider. Sam, brandishing a torch, joined the fight with the spider, or more accurately, he was pushed and rolled toward it.
Upon seeing the flames, the ice spider recoiled violently, its screams echoing through the air, while the Ghost, Sam, and Eddard shielded it behind them. Jon, Pyp, Grenn, and Benjen clashed with the Others. Their swords clashed against the Others' cold armor, but to no avail. Each attack produced only a piercing scream, like the scraping of glass against glass.
Pyp stood behind the Others. The Others watched them go about their business. It only looked at Jon, which terrified Jon. Pyp thought this was a good opportunity, so he struck from behind, but the Others didn't even turn around to face him. He simply let his blow hit the White Walker's neck. The blow didn't even scratch him, let alone sway him.
The white White Others swung his ice sword with lightning speed. Pyp tried to block the attack with his own sword, but when the two swords clashed, Pyp's sword shattered like glass. The force of the blow was undiminished, slicing through his throat.
A spray of blood splattered onto the white ground, turning it crimson, and his lifeless body collapsed to the ground. Jon was devastated, but before he could mourn his friend's death, the Others began to slowly approach them.
The three men mustered their courage and attacked it together. The Others, ignoring where their swords fell, grabbed Jon's sword and punched him while simultaneously gripping his own. At the same time, he kicked Benjen and pierced Grenn's shield with his ice sword, striking him in the chest and killing him instantly.
After killing Grenn, the Others ceased his ineffective actions and simply stood there. He was there waiting for something, as long as Jon and Benjen didn't attempt to move. It seemed he was toying with them.
The ice spider lunged forward with astonishing speed, its massive body casting a shadow over Sam and Eddard. The two Night's Watch brothers braced themselves for its attack. You could see Sam trying to lag behind Eddard by about a step. They held their torches high, Ghost beside them, attempting to keep their distance from the giant spider. Their hearts pounded with fear.
Sam considered whether he should run away, but he knew he had no chance of survival. In this icy wasteland, he could only rely on himself. Eddard waved his torch, startling the giant spider. Sam waved the torch and took a few steps back. Eddard seized the opportunity to strike its side, creating a crack in its carapace, but the spider was fast and had a wide field of vision. Its legs stabbed at Eddard like spears, wounding Eddard.
Eddard's face contorted in pain as he gritted his teeth and limped forward, the wounds inflicted by the spider's sharp appendages burning his legs. Blood flowed from the torn flesh, staining the snow beneath his feet.
Despite the excruciating pain, he remained steadfast, his eyes fixed on the monster before them. Beside him, Sam huddled tightly to his body, his heavy breathing unable to conceal the burning pain in his chest.
Sam knew his ribs were likely broken by the spider's vicious attack, but he gritted his teeth against the pain and focused on completing his task. He gripped the torch tightly with trembling hands, his eyes filled with fear, but escape was an option.
For a moment, Sam was overwhelmed with thoughts; would his father be proud of him if he saw him here? He didn't want to, this wasn't him. He didn't know how to fight, but if he wanted to survive, he had no choice.
However, even the mighty Direwolf Ghost was not unscathed. It whimpered in pain, limping forward, a leg dangling from its mouth as it desperately tried to tear it from the spider's body to kill it. But this small victory came at a price, for the Direwolf was now poisoned, and the wound on its left foreleg had turned an ominous purple.
After a while, Pyp and Grenn's bodies began to move, and they stood up. For a moment, Jon still held onto hope that they were alive, but when he saw their pale skin and milky white eyes with a bluish glow around them, he knew that it wasn't his friends who had stood up.
The Others grinned menacingly and attacked Jon and Benjen. In that moment, Jon realized why he hadn't attacked them after killing them. The Others had never considered them a threat. They were merely toys in his twisted game.
Jon and Benjen felt a chill run down their spines as they faced the corpses of their fallen comrades Pyp and Grenn. These were not the friends they once knew, but twisted puppets controlled by the Others, their eyes vacant and their movements stiff and unnatural.
Pyp lunged forward with astonishing speed, his sword tracing a wild arc, aimed straight for Jon's throat. Jon parried the blow with skillful technique, his sword clashing against Pyp's with a metallic clang. Then he retaliated, thrusting his own chest. Despite the force of the thrust, Pyp showed no sign of pain or hesitation; his empty eyes stared menacingly at Jon.
Meanwhile, Benjen was facing off against the undead Grenn. Grenn swung his massive arm with brute force, each strike aimed at knocking Benjen down. But Benjen was agile and quick, dodging Grenn's attacks. Taking advantage of an opening, Benjen flashed his sword and severed his own left arm, but this did little to slow Grenn's onslaught.
Jon and Benjen fought with all their might, but even with their limbs severed, the Others ' onslaught did not lessen. In a desperate struggle, Benjen kicked Grenn, Grenn fell onto the campfire.
As it was set ablaze by the campfire, it struggled to its feet, but within seconds, the wizard was nothing. At the same time, Jon, with lightning speed, decisively swung his sword in a wide arc, slicing through Pyp's neck with a sickening crack.
