Becoming a Saint in the Age of Myth
Light was also a form of energy.
It naturally tended to diffuse.
By the same principle, from the moment Cosmo power was generated, it would continually radiate its own light, spreading naturally in all directions.
"I can't completely stop light from spreading, but I can weaken it as much as possible!" Wuxin gained an insight.
Since the production and diffusion of light were unavoidable, he could only rein it in and control it, reducing the light produced.
Overall, this still fell within basic energy control and was not too difficult.
But the other requirement, reducing the interference that the energy's own properties exerted on its surroundings, gave him something of a headache.
This fell within the deeper applications of Cosmo power, which was somewhat beyond a Saint candidate like him who had only just mastered it.
Normally, after Saint candidates gradually became proficient in controlling their Cosmo power, they would further develop applications of its attributes.
On this basis, everyone developed all sorts of strange special moves.
For example, Phoenix's flames and Cygnus's freezing air.
What Wuxin had to do was suppress his Cosmo's death attribute, minimizing its interference with the surrounding phosphorus gas.
At the same time, the trial Hakurei had given him was also a deeper application of his Cosmo's death attribute.
This was a hurdle he had to overcome.
"I can only keep trying!"
After a soft sigh, Wuxin returned to the edge of the Land of White Bones and once again tentatively manifested a wisp of Cosmo power.
When ghostly flames ignited around him, he immediately retreated.
And so he repeatedly tested things around the Land of White Bones, further exploring the deeper applications of his own Cosmo power.
Chapter 15: The Golden Virgo
As his attempts continued to accumulate, Wuxin gradually grew familiar with the death attribute of his Cosmo power.
Three days later, his control over his Cosmo power had improved further. Even when he stood deep within the Land of White Bones and manifested his Cosmo power, he no longer ignited the phosphorus gas in the air.
Although he had yet to put the death attribute to use, he had at least become somewhat more familiar with his own Cosmo's death attribute. That counted as progress.
"Next, it's time to properly study how to use the death attribute!" Ignoring the white bones covering the ground, Wuxin sat down cross-legged.
In fact, when he first came down, he had still been rather uncomfortable with the eerie white bones strewn everywhere. But after these days of constant practice at the edge of the Land of White Bones, he had completely adjusted to them.
They were nothing more than a pile of bones, fundamentally no different from the bones everyone discarded during their daily meals.
It was this understanding that completely eliminated Wuxin's psychological discomfort.
"Then, before using the death attribute, I first need to understand what this attribute of death actually is." Wuxin posed the first question to himself.
After a little thought, he had his answer.
"The death attribute here is merely a special property manifested by a particular form of energy!"
"Just as energy can take the form of flames or fierce winds."
"Through these particular forms of energy, what was originally the most basic, attribute-less energy manifests special attributes!"
"Death is merely rarer than commonplace things like flames and fierce winds!"
Having analyzed this far, Wuxin could not help looking a little pleased. He murmured to himself, "Since death is merely an attribute of energy..."
"Then I only need to transform energy into the form of death to bring out a pure death attribute."
"When that happens, perhaps I can use death energy to solve the problem before me!"
As he spoke, he picked up a nearby skull and stared into its hollow eye sockets.
At that moment, he seemed to see skeletons slowly climbing out of the piles of bones, one after another, infused with his death energy.
A long while later, he gathered his thoughts and asked himself, "Then the core question is, how can I transform Cosmo power into the form of death energy?"
"Through imitation?" Wuxin immediately came up with a possibility.
The essence of imitation was, in fact, a process of learning.
Through continual learning, the imitation would grow increasingly similar until it became exactly the same thing.
Having understood this, he nodded. "It seems imitation is the answer!"
"Through continual imitation, we can gain a deep understanding of the essence of things, then learn them, use them, and finally master them!"
"Death energy is just such a thing!"
"It exists naturally in nature and is one of the foundations that make up the world's existence."
"The process of imitating death energy is actually a process of understanding the essence of death."
"Then my next step is to comprehend the essence of this naturally occurring death energy!"
As he spoke, he took a long look at the white skull in his hand.
Without a doubt, with so many remains piled up here, this was naturally also a place where death energy was most abundant.
Here, he could more easily come into contact with death energy and comprehend its essence.
At this thought, he froze for a moment, then shook his head with a chuckle. "So Lord Hakurei's trial wasn't just a trial. He was also pointing me toward a way forward!"
Training here, even if he failed to complete the trial, he would gradually come to understand the essence of death and, in turn, slowly develop ways to use death energy.
There was no place better suited to his training, nor any place better suited to serving as an introductory lesson in applying the attributes of his Cosmo power.
Just then, an unfamiliar voice suddenly sounded above Wuxin's head.
"Keen powers of observation and formidable analytical ability. You truly are different from ordinary people!"
"Who's there?!"
Startled, Wuxin hurriedly rolled away from his original position to evade any possible attack, glancing overhead as he did so.
A blond man appeared in his field of vision, wearing golden battle armor and radiating dazzling golden light. He floated in midair, sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed, his bearing solemn and dignified.
"It's you?"
Wuxin was taken aback.
He had already recognized him as Asmita, Sanctuary's Virgo Gold Saint.
At this point in time, Asmita, who had already attained the Eighth Sense, was undoubtedly the strongest among the Saints.
Yet he had never imagined that this Virgo Saint would suddenly appear here.
"It seems you've recognized me!" Asmita smiled faintly, then slowly descended from the air.
"May I ask what brings you here, Lord Asmita?" Wuxin immediately straightened and asked politely.
"I came here to see you," Asmita replied softly.
"To see me?"
Wuxin froze for a moment, then reacted as though facing a formidable enemy, rapidly retreating while assuming a stance to meet an attack.
Has Sanctuary's attitude toward me changed again? His heart sank.
Virgo's appearance had been so sudden that it was hard for him not to entertain some pessimistic thoughts.
"Don't be nervous! I mean you no harm!" Asmita gently shook his head and changed his hand seal.
Immediately afterward, Wuxin felt his body tighten, as though an invisible hand had seized him, and his entire body involuntarily moved toward the other man.
"You-"
Deeply alarmed, he hurriedly burned his Cosmo, trying to break free of the restraint.
But even after he exerted every ounce of strength he had, it made no difference whatsoever. In the blink of an eye, he was pulled back in front of Asmita.
Seeing this, he could only resign himself and stop his pointless struggle.
"Don't be nervous. I mean you no harm, young man!" Asmita stated his position once more and released the telekinetic restraint on Wuxin.
"Then please tell me, my lord, just what is it you want to do?" Having regained his freedom, Wuxin asked earnestly.
"I merely wish to ask you a few questions. Nothing more!" Asmita's tone remained gentle.
"Then why me?" Wuxin asked seriously in return.
"Don't you already have the answer in your heart? Why ask such a needless question?" Asmita smiled faintly.
At those words, the corners of Wuxin's mouth twitched.
Clearly, Asmita must have sensed something to have come here.
"As expected of someone who can converse with gods and buddhas. Truly beyond imagination!" Taking another look at the man who seemed divine, he could not help voicing his admiration.
Facing such an incredible person, he had to be exceedingly careful.
"If you also want to ask about my origins, then don't waste your effort. I really don't know how to explain!" He spread his hands, stating his position first.
Chapter 16: Discussing the Dao with Virgo
Hearing this, Asmita smiled again.
"I think you may have misunderstood!"
"I didn't come here to pry into your personal secrets. I simply have some questions that require an unusual person like you to answer!" he said earnestly.
Although the other man had not opened his eyes, Wuxin could clearly feel that his attention had remained on him all along, as though a pair of invisible eyes were fixed upon him.
"It seems you wish to get some relatively novel answers from me, my lord!" Wuxin paused briefly, finally beginning to grasp his meaning.
Since the other man had specifically sought out someone unusual like him, he naturally wanted to hear something unusual from this unusual person.
Understanding this, he immediately knew how he should respond next.
"Please ask your questions, my lord!" He made an inviting gesture.
"Tell me, is the King of the Underworld necessarily evil? And is Athena necessarily just?" Asmita calmly posed his first question.
"Hiss-"
Wuxin drew in a sharp breath when he heard it.
