A faint blush spread from her face all the way to her ears. Her fluttering lashes were like restless butterflies that might fly away at any moment. "My dad chose my name..."

She paused. "What do your friends call you? Wen Ce is a really nice name too."

He said that last sentence very earnestly.

"They call me all sorts of things. My name is only two characters. Call me whatever you like," Wen Ce said. Looking at the pink on her face, he really wanted to know whether it would turn a brilliant red if he reached out and touched it.

His fingers stirred. Suddenly, he really wanted to try.

"Then I'll stick with Wen Ce. Your name really does sound lovely," Luo Lianqing said softly.

In the end, Wen Ce didn't do it. He simply picked up a piece of tomato for her. "Let's eat. It'll get cold."

Egg Yolk must have smelled the food. It jumped down from the windowsill, ran over to Wen Ce's feet, rubbed against his leg, and meowed.

Then the cat settled down beside Wen Ce, looking up at him with those beautiful green eyes.

Wen Ce lowered his head and met its gaze, a gentle smile entering his eyes.

Perhaps cats took after their owners. Luo Lianqing's cat was just as cute as she was.

"Are you hungry too, Egg Yolk?" Wen Ce really wanted to reach out and stroke its fur, but he was eating.

Cats were creatures that shed every single day.

Watching Egg Yolk act spoiled and Wen Ce being so patient with it, Luo Lianqing felt a little sour. Why was Wen Ce so gentle even with a cat?

"It ate cat food just before coming over, and a whole can of food too. It just wants attention."

No sooner had Luo Lianqing finished speaking than Egg Yolk meowed at her twice, seemingly in protest.

"Am I wrong? You little attention hog!"

Watching her adorable display of actually getting into an argument with a cat, Wen Ce felt his heart go soft. How could she be this cute?

When Egg Yolk stopped paying attention to her, Luo Lianqing felt she had won the argument.

She lifted her chin a little happily and looked at Wen Ce. "See? It just wants attention. Ignore it."

Aren't I better-looking than a cat?

Wen Ce chuckled softly and nodded at her. "All right. I'll ignore it. Hurry up and eat."

Satisfied, Luo Lianqing lowered her head and began eating.

After a couple of bites, she suddenly asked, "Do you like cats or dogs?"

I like you.

Wen Ce really wanted to say that, but clearly, this didn't seem like the right moment. If he said it, they wouldn't be able to finish their meal.

After confirming that Luo Lianqing felt the same way about him, Wen Ce had begun to grow restless.

He just wanted to tell her soon that he liked her and ask whether she wanted to try dating.

It didn't matter if she didn't believe in marriage. He could date her for a lifetime.

Although it was still far too early to talk about a lifetime, there was a long road ahead. Only as the days passed, one by one, would those words be borne out.

He really wanted to tell Luo Lianqing that he liked her.

Wen Ce tightened his grip on his chopsticks. "I like both. If I really had to choose, probably cats."

Luo Lianqing was like a cat too: proud and beautiful, but sweet and clingy with her owner. Particularly adorable.

See, when you liked someone, everything reminded you of her.

They finished the meal with something tangled and hard to define in the air between them.

Luo Lianqing had to admit that Wen Ce's cooking was delicious. Another reason to like him.

Wen Ce seemed capable of anything.

At that thought, Luo Lianqing felt she really did have excellent taste.

After the meal, Luo Lianqing helped Wen Ce clear the table. He didn't stop her, only asking her to leave the dishes and chopsticks to one side so he could wash them later.

Then he followed behind her with the leftover food, asking as though casually, "Are you busy this afternoon? Want to watch a movie together? I have a projector at home. I've got little cakes ready too."

Luo Lianqing set down what she was holding, the corners of her lips curling up. He seemed to have everything ready.

So did this count as a date?

Luo Lianqing turned around and said, "Sure."

Wen Ce had been standing right behind her, holding the plates.

When she turned, it brought them face-to-face-and very close at that.

Only a tiny gap remained between them.

Wen Ce looked down at her and saw her staring at him, a little stunned.

Then she began to blush.

At this distance, all he had to do was reach out, and he could hold her.

The leftovers in his hands really were in the way.

Wen Ce let out a small breath and took half a step back. "Then think about what you want to watch."

A little flustered, Luo Lianqing raised a hand to touch her face, then felt that would look too deliberate. In the end, she merely touched her hair, which hadn't been out of place to begin with. "Ah, okay. Anything's fine with me. Let's watch a horror movie. Didn't we mention a good one before..."

She suddenly remembered something. "But I need to send a file to the almighty client in a bit. It's a freelance job I took earlier."

"Could you wait for me a little?" Luo Lianqing looked up at him, her eyes seeming even more dazzling than the sun outside.

Wen Ce nodded. "Of course."

Luo Lianqing pressed her lips together in a happy smile.

"Then I'll go back and take care of it now. It won't take long." As she spoke, she walked past Wen Ce. "Shall I leave Egg Yolk here?"

"Sure. I'll wash the dishes in the meantime. Take your time." Wen Ce put down what he was holding and followed her.

Luo Lianqing hummed in acknowledgment. "You don't have to walk me out. It's not far."

"Exactly, it's not far. I'll walk you out." Wen Ce answered without thinking.

Then they both laughed.

Luo Lianqing felt things between them weren't quite so awkward anymore.

Only after watching Luo Lianqing enter her home and close the door did Wen Ce close his own.

He stood there for a while, feeling as though pink bubbles had been rising all around him ever since he had started spending time with Luo Lianqing today.

It was a feeling he had never experienced before, something wondrous, and very happy.

Egg Yolk ran to his feet again and meowed. Wen Ce crouched down and picked it up, and Egg Yolk affectionately rubbed its little head against his hand.

Wen Ce stroked it. "Egg Yolk, your big sister probably likes me, right?"

Egg Yolk meowed.

Wen Ce happily stroked it for quite a while.

He even opened a packet of dried fish for it, feeding it until it finished before heading into the kitchen.

He picked up his phone and glanced at it. Zhou Chi's messages could be ignored.

He went straight to the message Luo Lianqing had just sent. [The client wants a few changes. I'll be a little late.]

Below it was a dejected bunny sticker.

Wen Ce replied with a head-patting sticker. [Take your time. I'll wait for you.]

Luo Lianqing happily looked at the head-patting sticker Wen Ce had sent, then opened the folder on her desktop.

The client had been referred by a former classmate, so there was a time difference between them.

The client needed it rather urgently right now, so Luo Lianqing could only make the changes and send it over immediately.

She was thoroughly familiar with the workflow for creating graphics.

She soon finished making the adjustments the client wanted, sent it to him for confirmation, and then exported the original image.

Finally, she opened her email and sent it over.

After sending it, she habitually checked her inbox for new messages.

Then she accidentally clicked on an attachment.

The next moment, her computer screen went black.

Luo Lianqing: ????

Then, a moment later, some images unsuitable for children appeared on the screen.

Luo Lianqing: ???Σ(⊙▽⊙"a
