Wen Ning was woken by her body clock the next morning.
When she opened her eyes, everything was pitch-black. She froze for a few seconds, then panic struck. Erkang, it's so dark in here! Why haven't you turned on the lights?! Erkang? Say something, Erkang!
Thinking she had gone blind, Wen Ning frantically felt around beside her pillow for her phone.
The instant its glaring light illuminated the room, she breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, thank goodness. I'm not blind.
Then she looked again. It was almost eight thirty in the morning!
The breath Wen Ning had just released immediately caught in her throat again!
Oh crap, oh crap, I'm going to be late!
Without another thought, Wen Ning scrambled upright and started running toward the bathroom.
Halfway there, she tripped over something and nearly fell.
Burning with urgency, Wen Ning shone her phone at it and discovered that the culprit was none other than the sofa, with a long figure lying on it.
Wen Ning stared at that long figure for a full half minute-
"Fuck!"
I transmigrated into a book! What fucking work do I have to go to?! That asshole boss has probably already eaten at my funeral banquet!
Who knew what time Bo Yan had gone to sleep last night? He was still sleeping like the dead.
Silently cursing this bullshit transmigration mechanism, which was practically no different from a human trafficker, Wen Ning crept back to bed and lay down again.
She thought about last night's harrowing events, about how she must have suffered eight lifetimes' worth of rotten luck, and as she thought, her mind drifted to all the bizarre dreams she had had last night...
At first, she had dreamed of her bestie's two little masters. Wen Ning had accompanied her bestie when she brought them home. The doggy master had been named Yanyan for his golden coat, while the kitty master had been named Baobao for his adorably endearing looks. Both little ones were very attached to her.
She was usually too busy with work to have the time or energy to keep pets herself, so her bestie's two little masters had become two of the few comforts in her exhausting life.
She dreamed of holding the two little masters, petting and kissing them like mad, utterly delighted.
Then the scene shifted, and the little masters in her arms turned into Bo Yan's cold, terrifying face, filled with murderous intent.
In her dream, Bo Yan ignored her pleas, hauled her to the mountain behind the Bo residence, and threw her into the woods to feed the wild boars...
Wen Ning had spent the whole night being chased by wild boars. Even recalling it now left her exhausted.
Wearied to the core, she opened her eyes.
Everything was still pitch-black.
There was no daylight in the basement. Anyone who didn't know better would have thought she was lying in a coffin.
Perhaps remembering that whipping scene yesterday was why she had had such an absurd yet not-so-absurd dream.
The whip, the drugging, being thrown onto the mountain out back...
The reason everything had happened last night could be traced back to the night before last, when the female lead, Jiang Tingwan, had brought medicine to the main villain. (Wen Ning now knew the male and female leads' names. She had found them by going through the original owner's WeChat. Clearly, people couldn't live without their phones.)
In short, Jiang Tingwan had brought Bo Yan medicine for his injuries, and, as rotten luck would have it, the original owner had caught her.
Before that, Jiang Tingwan and Bo Yan had tacitly pretended not to know each other, and everyone in the Bo household had thought they barely knew one another.
In reality, Jiang Tingwan had recognized Bo Yan the day Bo Xubai brought her back to the Bo residence. Although she had been surprised that the destitute little beggar from back then was actually the Bo family's illegitimate son, she had refrained from acknowledging their acquaintance right away to preserve the little beggar's pride. Instead, she had quietly helped Bo Yan behind the scenes.
Things like bringing him medicine for his injuries, food, and clothing.
As for whether Bo Yan had used anything she brought, Wen Ning had no way of knowing. Her bestie hadn't gone into that much detail.
Jiang Tingwan had previously done all of this very discreetly, but who knew what had gotten into her the night before last? She had actually come looking for Bo Yan with the medicine in plain sight.
Now, their relationship could no longer stay hidden.
The original owner had seen that these two not only knew each other, but very possibly had a close relationship. They might even have been old acquaintances or former lovers!
This had delighted the original owner beyond measure. Jiang Tingwan's usual behavior had been seamless as a heavenly robe, and she had been fretting over her inability to find anything to use against her!
So the original owner had immediately photographed evidence of their "secret rendezvous," then gone straight to the male lead to tattle.
The male lead had naturally seethed after seeing the photos, but instead of taking his anger out on the female lead, he had shown his disgust for the original owner and said a whole string of nasty things to her.
The original owner had been angered to tears. After returning, she had vented everything on the main villain and even tried to force him to seduce the female lead.
Of course the main villain had refused, so the original owner had had a flash of inspiration: she drugged both the female lead and the main villain, then tried to lock them up together.
Her scheme, however, had failed.
The male lead had been the first to notice something was wrong with the female lead and had carried her straight back to his room in a princess carry.
Then, with the help of the aphrodisiac, the male and female leads had successfully rolled in the sheets, and after sleeping together, they had successfully reconciled.
As for the main villain, he was so clever that he must have seen through the original owner's scheme immediately, too.
Once the drug wore off, the main villain had hauled the original owner to the mountain out back with a dark expression. No amount of resistance or struggling had done her any good.
This had also been the first scene in the novel where the original owner came close to death and was nearly killed by Bo Yan.
The reason Wen Ning remembered this plot point, and in such detail, was that her bestie had sent her a picture.
It was a piece of fan art by an amazing artist depicting the scene where Bo Yan was whipped.
The man in the picture wore a thin white shirt tucked into his suit trousers, cinching in his narrow waist.
He knelt on the ground, the red whip wounds on his body making him look utterly broken, yet he still held on to a stubborn refusal to yield.
A battle-damaged beauty through and through!
Wen Ning had even used that evocative picture as her phone wallpaper for a while.
But however evocative the picture was, it fell far short of the impact of seeing the actual person in real life.
The sight of Bo Yan last night, covered in whip wounds with his clothes in disarray, drifted through her mind.
Wen Ning turned to glance toward the sofa.
The main villain might have been crazy, but he truly was beautiful.
And so, quite naturally, this part of the plot had stayed in her memory.
If she hadn't transmigrated into the book, hadn't become the vicious supporting female character, Wen Ning would definitely have said that this plot was so damn satisfying!
The vicious supporting female character being thrown to wild boars-how could that not be satisfying?!
But now that she had become that vicious supporting female character, Wen Ning only wanted to say: Sick, they're all sick! Perverts, every last one of them!!!
As the saying went, a villain's racked brains were no match for a fool's flash of inspiration. She really had no words left for the original owner!
With that thought, Wen Ning started going through the original owner's WeChat again.
After the whipping came the drugging!
She still didn't even know whether the drugs would be administered in the morning or at night, today or tomorrow, in the water or in the food.
Sure enough, just like last night, she searched for ages and came up empty.
Could it be that I transmigrated before the original owner had time to arrange the drugging?
Wen Ning didn't dare count on luck. Starting today, she had to be careful, then more careful still. One wrong step, and she could very well be dragged off to feed the wild boars...
Damn it, if I get the chance, I'm slaughtering those boars ahead of time and roasting them!
Just as she was thinking that, someone knocked twice on the basement door.
A servant's voice came from outside. "Eldest Miss, breakfast is ready. The eldest young master and Madam are both here. We're only waiting for you and that bas-the younger young master."
Hearing the servant's perfunctory tone and that mid-sentence shift, Wen Ning involuntarily furrowed her brows and called out an acknowledgment.
Then she let out a long breath.
Okay! Just think of it as working nine to nine, six days a week. Time to get up and "clock in"!
