"Jiang Tingwan!"
Wen Ning had no time to think and immediately let out a furious shout!
Jiang Tingwan already had the spoon at her lips, but that piercing shriek startled her so badly that her hand shook.
With a clang, the spoon fell back into the bowl of drugged soup.
Before anyone present could react, Wen Ning strode forward, pointed at the bowl of bird's nest soup in Jiang Tingwan's hands, and yelled at Nanny Wang, who was serving breakfast nearby, "What's that?"
Nanny Wang was stunned by her shouting.
Jiang Tingwan and Bo Xubai were also taken aback.
Of everyone present, only Bo Yan watched Wen Ning at his leisure, holding his glass of water, his eyes full of scrutiny.
After a long moment, Nanny Wang, who had been singled out, finally stammered, "B-bird's nest soup."
Wen Ning's expression was icy. "Am I blind? I know that's bird's nest soup!"
She threw her weight around. "I'm asking why you only prepared bird's nest soup for her! What, do you look down on me, or do you look down on my Wen Family?"
This was rather unreasonable.
But being unreasonable was exactly what Wen Ning wanted!
Nanny Wang immediately understood what the young lady meant and hurriedly said, "I'll go get you a bowl right away, miss."
With that, she started hurrying toward the kitchen.
She had barely taken two steps when the young lady behind her slapped the table again. "Stop right there! Who told you to get me a bowl?"
Nanny Wang shook all over in fright and hurriedly shuffled back, trembling.
By then, Wen Ning had already returned to her seat. Crossing her left leg over her right knee and folding her arms, she lifted her chin imperiously. "I want her bowl!"
Nanny Wang let out an "Huh?" Clearly, she hadn't quite caught on.
Seeing her lack of response, Wen Ning slapped the table. "Did you hear me? I said I want her bowl!"
Nanny Wang broke into a sweat. She finally understood what this young lady was making a fuss about this time!
When the young lady had defended that illegitimate son earlier, they had all thought she had changed her nature. Now it seemed she was merely throwing a tantrum at their eldest young master.
Was she fighting over a bowl of bird's nest soup?
What she was fighting for was clearly the eldest young master's attention!
The young lady was putting Jiang Tingwan in her place!
But Jiang Tingwan was, after all, the woman their eldest young master currently doted on most. For a moment, Nanny Wang dared not act rashly and could only watch his expression while sweating.
She would have been better off not looking. The moment she did, she saw his dark expression, as though he might erupt at any second.
And Jiang Tingwan, sitting beside Bo Xubai, had her delicate brows tightly knitted, a fleeting trace of irritation crossing her face.
Caught between them, Nanny Wang was in a bind. "How about... I get you another bowl after all, miss..."
Wen Ning said coldly, "I said I want her bowl!"
Sweat soaked Nanny Wang's back. "But..."
"Enough!" Bo Xubai finally reached the end of his patience. "Wen Ning, are you done making a scene?!"
Wen Ning snorted. "Making a scene? Am I making a scene? I just want a bowl of bird's nest congee. How is that making a scene? Bo Xubai, don't be unreasonable."
Bo Xubai's face flushed scarlet with anger. "Auntie Wang already offered to get you a bowl, but you insist on taking Wanwan's? Who's the unreasonable one here!"
Perfectly composed, Wen Ning shot back, "They treated us differently to begin with, so now I want to teach them a little lesson. That makes my fuss perfectly reasonable. Be reasonable, eldest young master."
Bo Xubai was almost driven mad by this unreasonable woman! Had she taken the wrong medicine today? What on earth was this madness!
Only minutes ago, she had been challenging him over that bastard, and now she wanted to snatch Wanwan's bird's nest soup to attract his attention!
She-
Yes, everything this woman was doing now was merely to attract his attention!
It seemed this woman still hadn't given up her designs on him.
At that thought, Bo Xubai's anger inexplicably subsided a little.
The corners of his lips lifted almost imperceptibly. He was just about to say, "Stop making a fuss. I'll have Auntie Wang get you another bowl." She wasn't happy when Auntie Wang offered, but if he instructed Auntie Wang to get her one, surely she would be satisfied.
But before he could speak, Jiang Tingwan said gently beside him, "I haven't touched this bowl yet. Since Miss Wen wants it, let her have it."
As she spoke, she handed her bowl of bird's nest congee to Auntie Wang.
She was the very picture of gentleness and consideration.
Seeing this, Auntie Wang immediately breathed a sigh of relief. She hurried forward to take the congee and placed it before Wen Ning, her opinion of the woman the eldest young master had brought home improving considerably.
Having secured that bowl of bird's nest soup, Wen Ning finally looked a little more pleased.
Everyone present thought that should be the end of it.
Who knew that after picking up her spoon and stirring the congee before her twice, Wen Ning would turn to Nanny Wang and say, "Trash can."
Nanny Wang didn't understand, but she brought the trash can over anyway.
Then they saw Wen Ning lift the bowl with her fingers painted lotus-pink, looking faintly disdainful. Her bright peach-blossom eyes smiled at the two sitting opposite her as she tipped her wrist.
The next second, there was a thud as she tossed the bird's nest congee into the trash can.
Even someone as gentle and serene as Jiang Tingwan couldn't maintain her composure. Her beautiful eyes widened in shock and anger.
Bo Xubai's face alternated between livid and scarlet with rage. He nearly abandoned his good upbringing and opened his mouth to spew filth!
Only Bo Yan showed little emotional fluctuation from beginning to end. Even now, he was calmly eating his last bite of bacon.
For a moment, the room was so quiet that a falling pin could have been heard.
In that silence, Wen Ning gave a mocking little laugh. "What can I do? Now I don't feel like eating it."
That tone, that expression-she was a vicious supporting female character through and through!
Even the squad of nannies nearby was stunned by Wen Ning's viciousness!
Mean! So mean! Who could possibly be meaner than this young lady!
They wished they could live this mean just once, too!
Ignoring all the strange looks around her after throwing out the congee, Wen Ning glanced at the person beside her.
Seeing the big villain still eating, the corner of her mouth twitched.
Eat, eat, eat. All you know is eating. You've been drugged, and you're still eating!
There's really no dealing with this little glutton!
Fortunately, the female lead's side of things had been resolved with a scare but no mishap.
Wen Ning calculated the time. She wasn't sure when the drug would take effect. In any case, it would be best to hurry back first.
She immediately stood, looking every bit as though she were declaring, "This palace is tired today and really has no time for your nonsense." Turning to the person beside her, she asked, "Hubby, are you done eating?"
The corners of Bo Yan's mouth twitched twice at her calling him hubby.
But very soon, his brows drew together slightly.
His body seemed to be getting a little... strange.
Reacting a little more slowly than usual, he looked up at Wen Ning, who had already risen.
In front of the Bo Family, Bo Yan had always been gentle and harmless-or rather, weak and easy to bully.
Out of habit, he lifted one corner of his mouth and gave Wen Ning a faint smile. "Mm, I'm done."
Even knowing the big villain was acting, Wen Ning still froze for a moment.
Perhaps the drug was beginning to take effect. A broad flush of red began spreading around the injured corner of Bo Yan's eye.
It was like a drop of red ink falling onto a sheet of white paper that had been ravaged to tatters.
It kept spreading across his face and behind his ears.
Paired with that obedient, docile response, its devastating impact was off the charts.
Yet he himself seemed not to have noticed anything at all.
After that brief daze, Wen Ning hurriedly turned around, her tone a little unnatural. "Let's go back."
Time to go back and deal with your side of things!
Bo Yan murmured his assent, stood, said goodbye to his eldest brother and sister-in-law across from him, and followed Wen Ning out.
He was as docile as a puppy being led along by Wen Ning.
