Who lost their property 2: Even if the captain and I really were toge...
"Shut up!" Song Ranran finally lost her composure. She stepped forward and was just about to speak when a soft chuckle suddenly came from the doorway.
Everyone turned to see Pei Qingyu leaning against the doorframe. His face was still a little pale, but he tilted his head and smiled with perfect composure. "I'm here. What is it?"
"Nothing." Zhou Yang whistled, folded his arms, and said nastily, "Long time no see. I just came to check whether you were dead."
"Mm." Pei Qingyu straightened up. With Xun Yin following behind him, he walked over and stopped in front of Zhou Yang. "As you can see, I'm alive and well."
"You, on the other hand..." Pei Qingyu sighed. "Long time no see, and you're still snapping at everyone like a rabid dog."
Beside them, Song Ranran couldn't hold back a laugh. Zhou Yang ground his teeth, his expression instantly turning cold. Suddenly, he grabbed a cup from the nearby desk and hurled it straight at Pei Qingyu.
Pei Qingyu hadn't expected him to be just as vicious and unruly as he had been as a child. He froze for a moment before swiftly dodging, but they were too close, and the cup still struck his chest. He bent over with a muffled groan, only to hear Zhou Yang laugh nastily in front of him and declare loudly:
"I'm still better than you. You're so sick you barely look human, and you're fooling around with your own team member."
Chapter 31: Who lost their property 2: Even if the captain and I really were toge...
The moment Zhou Yang finished speaking, every member of the Special Case Team went cold.
Pei Qingyu's head buzzed, and the hand pressed against his chest abruptly clenched. He lowered his eyes and stared blankly at the tips of his shoes, unable to catch his breath for a moment.
He had only been discharged from the hospital that day. He had originally rushed to the police station, only for his older brother to order him to come back tomorrow, but then he had heard a passing intern say someone was causing trouble at the Special Case Team and hurried over.
Pei Qingyu took a deep breath to clear his head a little. When he looked up again, his lips curved into another smile. "Then congratulations on remaining a rabid dog after all these years without changing a bit. As for what you just said... mm..."
Before Pei Qingyu could finish, someone suddenly blocked his view. Without a word, Xun Yin stepped around in front of him, lifted him up, and sat him on the nearby desk. With practiced ease, he took the medicine from Pei Qingyu's pocket and brought it straight to his lips.
Pei Qingyu instinctively opened his mouth to take the medicine. He was a little too hasty, and a flick of his tongue accidentally brushed Xun Yin's finger.
Xun Yin's fingertip trembled slightly, but his expression didn't change. He calmly withdrew his hand, murmured, "Stay seated, Captain," and turned to walk straight toward Zhou Yang.
"What are you going to do?"
Zhou Yang took a wary step back. His assistant Lele, standing beside him, also watched the two nervously, wanting to say something but not daring to speak.
Xun Yin ignored them and kept walking forward.
Zhou Yang finally grew frightened. Gritting his teeth, he swung a fist straight at Xun Yin's face. Xun Yin swiftly caught his fist and twisted it hard. Zhou Yang cried out in pain and tried to pull his hand back, but Xun Yin turned and folded his arm behind his back.
Zhou Yang raised a foot to kick him, only for Xun Yin to kick the back of his knee and send him sprawling awkwardly to the floor. Holding Zhou Yang's wrist in one hand, he snapped a pair of handcuffs onto him with a click.
"What are you doing? This is unlawful arrest! I'm going to file a complaint against you!"
Zhou Yang knelt awkwardly on one knee, struggling as he looked up and shouted.
"Article 42 of the Public Security Administration Punishments Law states: publicly insulting others or fabricating facts to defame others is punishable by detention or a fine. Article 277 of the Criminal Law states that obstructing state personnel in the performance of their duties through violence or threats is punishable by fixed-term imprisonment, detention, or a fine."
Xun Yin felt Zhou Yang begin to tremble slightly, but ignored it and continued, "First defamation, then assaulting a police officer. Either one is enough for me to cuff you. Now, do you want to file a complaint against us, or go to the meeting room yourself?"
Zhou Yang muttered under his breath, cursing something unintelligible. After a few seconds, he finally looked up. "Fine, I was fucking wrong. I'll go to the meeting room, all right? Hurry up and let me go!"
Ignoring him, Xun Yin looked up and called, "Brother Lin," signaling for Lin Shichu to take him over.
Just as Zhou Yang stood up, Xun Yin suddenly turned his head. At an angle where Pei Qingyu couldn't see him, he said softly, "One more thing. Even if the captain and I really were together, what business would it be of yours?"
As though Xun Yin had hit a nerve, Zhou Yang whipped his head around and glared viciously at him. But before he could say anything, Lin Shichu amiably "escorted" him out. Lele, who hadn't dared say a word the entire time, hurried after him, bowing and nodding repeatedly in apology.
Xun Yin stood where he was for a moment and signaled for everyone else to disperse before turning and walking back to Pei Qingyu.
The smile had long since left Pei Qingyu's face. He sat obediently on the desk and looked up into Xun Yin's eyes.
The sharp air Xun Yin had displayed in front of Zhou Yang faded. He stood there blankly, like a little wolf cub at a loss. After hesitating for a moment, he finally said, "Captain, I didn't embarrass you just now, did I?"
Pei Qingyu's gaze shifted slightly, but he said nothing. This only made Xun Yin more nervous. He took Pei Qingyu's hand, opened his palm, and gently tickled it, copying the way Pei Qingyu had teased him before.
"Captain, I was just so angry that I went straight over..."
"Did you mean everything you just said?" Pei Qingyu interrupted softly.
Xun Yin's heart tightened. Before he could answer, Pei Qingyu let out a breath, raised an arm, and patted Xun Yin's head with a smile. "All right, I'm teasing. When did you memorize the Criminal Law? You even managed to bluff him."
Xun Yin lowered his eyes briefly and didn't pursue the subject. Looking up, he answered, "...When I was organizing the files before, I saw a video of you reciting the Criminal Law back when you were a student. I thought it was impressive, so I kept reviewing it whenever I had time."
Pei Qingyu froze. He frowned and thought for ages, but couldn't remember when anyone had recorded him reciting the Criminal Law in college. In the end, he could only sigh and tacitly acknowledge this embarrassing piece of his past.
