Who Lost Their Property 3 "At the police university, meeting A-Xun,...
He brushed aside the stray hair on Xun Yin's forehead and suddenly said, "Our Deputy Captain Xun can handle things all on his own now. That's wonderful."
Pei Qingyu tilted his head in thought, then suddenly smiled again. Hopping down from the desk, he said, "When will A-Xun stop needing his captain, too?"
Without waiting for Xun Yin to answer, Pei Qingyu composed himself and raised his voice. "Come on, let's go to the conference room. Let's go see that mad dog."
"Captain Pei, are you all right?"
The two had just stepped out of the Special Case Team's office when they ran into Song Ranran, who had come back to fetch some documents. After asking, she did not wait for Pei Qingyu's answer. She studied his expression carefully, then sighed in relief. "All right, looks like Brother Xun's cheered you up. Captain, how do you know that man? He latches onto people like a lunatic and won't let go."
"I met him when he visited our house as a kid," Pei Qingyu said vaguely.
Song Ranran looked up in shock. Zhou Yang had just said he was Zhou Fu's adopted son. Zhou Fu was a wealthy man in the city, and the people he associated with moved in the same circles, most of them rich or powerful. Going by that-
"Captain Pei, your family..."
Pei Qingyu did not answer again. He raised a finger and shushed her softly, then reached out and pushed open the conference room door.
Inside the conference room, Lin Shichu had already removed Zhou Yang's handcuffs. Zhou Yang sat on the sofa, aggrieved, staring at Lin Shichu across from him. Behind him stood his assistant Lele, looking extremely nervous and constantly wringing his fingers.
Hearing the door open, Zhou Yang whipped his head around. When he saw Pei Qingyu and Xun Yin walk in one after the other, his expression stiffened. In the end, he said nothing and remained sitting rigidly in place.
Pei Qingyu watched him for a moment with a faint, ambiguous smile. Without a word, he slowly walked over to the chair at the far end of the conference room and sat down.
Xun Yin did not follow Pei Qingyu, instead striding toward Zhou Yang. Upon reaching him, he suddenly bent down and leaned forward. Zhou Yang instinctively shrank back. With a soft click, a voice recorder was placed between them. Xun Yin straightened and calmly returned to Pei Qingyu's side. Zhou Yang froze for a moment, then sat up straight again, looking thoroughly embarrassed.
"All right, let's begin. Mr. Zhou Yang, when did you last see your adoptive father?" Lin Shichu opened the file and asked.
Zhou Yang paused for half a second, but inexplicably asked a different question. "Why isn't he questioning me?"
Lin Shichu looked up just in time to see Zhou Yang pointing at Pei Qingyu a short distance away.
"Do you want me to question you?" Rather than answer, Pei Qingyu smiled and asked him directly.
"You're the head of the Special Case Team. If I have to be questioned, of course I want whoever ranks highest," Zhou Yang said, his face flushed and his neck stiff.
"I can question you. But let me make this clear first: the people I question are all serious offenders. Either they've committed multiple crimes and deserve to die, or they're cunning, treacherous criminals sentenced to life. Are you sure you still want me to do it?"
As Pei Qingyu spoke, he made as if to stand. Just as expected, Zhou Yang shrank back and waved his hands repeatedly. "Forget it, forget it. He'll do."
"Then hurry up and answer Brother Lin's question."
Pei Qingyu's voice turned cold in an instant. He looked up and gestured for Lin Shichu to continue. Lin Shichu nodded. "Mr. Zhou Yang, the same question. When did you last see your adoptive father?"
Zhou Yang thought for a moment. "About... three days ago, I think."
"What did you go to see him for?"
"I wanted to ask him for an opportunity he had available. Although I'm signed with Zhangbu Talent Agency, our two companies actually do a lot of business with each other, and my godfather is that agency's biggest shareholder. So if there's an opportunity I like, I go straight to him."
Zhou Yang thought for another moment before confirming, "Yes, it was three days ago. My godfather weighs up the benefits very carefully. Even when I ask him for an opportunity, I have to talk myself hoarse explaining all the pros and cons in detail. That day, I'd prepared a whole long spiel, planning to keep at him until he agreed. But he turned me down outright and told me to come back in three days."
"Why?"
"He said a major opportunity was coming in three days. He wanted to make the most of it, so he needed to devote all his effort to preparing for it."
Lin Shichu immediately followed up. "Then did he tell you what this opportunity was, or where he was going to find it?"
"No." Zhou Yang shook his head. "He looked nervous, with a trace of fear, and he was in a very excited state."
"You can describe his expression in that much detail?" Lin Shichu asked, a little surprised.
"Of course. I'm an actor. Naturally, I have to read people's expressions accurately." Zhou Yang looked up at him, puzzled.
Helpless, Lin Shichu looked up at Pei Qingyu behind Zhou Yang. Pei Qingyu frowned and gave him a slight nod. Understanding, Lin Shichu pulled Zhuo Wumian's photograph from the bottom of the file and asked, "Have you seen this person before?"
Zhou Yang frowned at it for a long while, then shook his head. "I don't know him."
Pei Qingyu raised his eyebrows, a trace of surprise showing in his eyes.
Zhou Yang glanced at the photograph a few more times. Suddenly, as though he had spotted something, he shouted, "Wait, that's not right!"
He leaped to his feet in agitation and abruptly leaned closer to the photograph, his face full of shock.

"He feels very familiar, but I'm not sure whether I've actually seen him before," Zhou Yang muttered, staring fixedly at Zhuo Wumian's photograph.
"Familiar in what way?" Lin Shichu leaned forward slightly and immediately asked, "His looks or his demeanor?"
"Definitely his demeanor," Zhou Yang said with certainty.
"There are all sorts of people in the industry. Who knows whether they've had work done? The next time you see them, they might look completely different again. I always recognize people by a feeling. A feeling, you understand?"
The conference room fell silent for a moment. Lin Shichu smiled good-naturedly without saying anything. Seeing his reaction, Zhou Yang suddenly lost his temper and rattled on. "What, you don't believe me? How else do you think I've managed to get along like a fish in water all this time? Do you really think it's all thanks to my godfather's resources? Never forgetting a face is a skill, too."
