Ch. 161Negotiations

Shin'un and Nara Shikahito planned to move the postwar negotiations with Sunagakure from the Land of Iron to the Land of Birds, and Shin'un later traveled there with a Konoha team to meet Nara. Shin'un reflected on the month he had spent helping control two thousand Sunagakure prisoners before the negotiations.

  • Shin'un and Nara Shikahito discussed Sunagakure's plan to involve Iwagakure in the postwar negotiations and agreed that Konoha held the advantage.
  • Nara Shikahito proposed moving the negotiations to the Land of Birds, partly to shorten the team's journey, and Shin'un agreed.
  • A month later, Shin'un arrived at the border of the Land of Birds and the Land of Rain with nine Konoha Ninja, an hour before the agreed meeting time with Nara Shikahito.
  • Shin'un recalled that Sunagakure had surrendered and ordered its remaining Sand Ninja in the Land of Rain to become prisoners, bringing Konoha's total to two thousand.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi assigned eight hundred ninja under Shimura Danzō to guard the prisoners and transferred Orochimaru, Tsunade, and Shin'un to support them as frequent conflicts and riots broke out.

Ch. 162"Bloodline Essence"

Shin'un examined the loading progress and effect of [Bloodline Essence], which was designed to develop his Senju bloodline according to his preferences. He then met Nara Shikahito and prepared to travel with him to the negotiations in the Land of Birds.

  • Shin'un reflected on how killing Chiyo had made him too valuable to the village to return home and train in peace.
  • Shin'un found that [Bloodline Essence] had reached six percent progress and estimated that its loading speed was increasing.
  • Shin'un reviewed the skill's effect and considered how it could strengthen and refine his bloodline without changing his human appearance.
  • A Konoha Jonin spotted Nara Shikahito's approaching group, and Shin'un ordered his team to prepare to move out.
  • Nara Shikahito met Shin'un and explained that the large escort was meant to project Konoha's strength and provide security for the negotiations.
  • Shin'un and Nara Shikahito set out for the negotiation site, which was several hours away.

Ch. 163We're all one family, after all

Hirakawa Shin'un and the Konoha delegation arrived at the negotiation town and faced the hostile Sunagakure party led by Ebizo. At the negotiations the next morning, Nara Shikahito opened by demanding an enormous ransom for Sunagakure’s prisoners.

  • Shin'un led about a hundred Konoha Ninja into the town by scaling its wall after scouts detected ninja ahead.
  • Nara Shikahito identified Ebizo as Sunagakure’s intelligence chief and the likely leader of its negotiations.
  • Shikahito led the Konoha party past Ebizo’s hostile group without meeting them before the talks.
  • The Konoha, Sunagakure, and Iwagakure representatives gathered for negotiations the following morning.
  • Shikahito demanded 230 billion ryo for 2,300 of Konoha’s 2,380 Sunagakure prisoners.

Ch. 164Swift and Decisive

Nara Shikahito laid out Konoha’s demands for Sunagakure, including supplies, techniques, an alliance, missions, and permanent residents, while Ebizo rejected the terms. Shin’un’s display of power stopped the confrontation, and Nara ended by demanding a giant puppet prototype within a month.

  • Ebizo angrily rejected Konoha’s proposed ransom of 230 billion ryo, and Nara Shikahito said Konoha had alternative ways to reduce it.
  • Nara read demands that Sunagakure surrender techniques and supplies, form an alliance, transfer forty percent of its missions, and send thirteen ninja to live in Konoha.
  • Ebizo protested that the named ninja, including Karura, Sasori, and Pakura, could not be sent to Konoha, then smashed the negotiating table when Nara continued.
  • A Sunagakure Jonin reached for his sword, so Shin’un unleashed a powerful display of chakra and lightning; Ebizo apologized and ordered the Jonin to stand down.
  • Nara read the final demand: Sunagakure had to hand over the giant puppet prototype connected to a crater five years earlier within one month.

Ch. 165I dunno

During the first negotiations among Konoha, Iwagakure, and Sunagakure, Shin'un became fixated on Sunagakure's giant puppet prototype. Nara Shikahito explained that Shin'un had once gathered intelligence about it himself and gave him the classified dossier to read.

  • The representatives concluded their preliminary negotiations without resolving the dispute over war reparations.
  • Nara Shikahito brought Shin'un to the Konoha team's quarters and encouraged him to spend his free time around town.
  • Shin'un asked Nara Shikahito about the giant puppet prototype, and Nara Shikahito revealed that Shin'un had submitted the original intelligence report.
  • Shin'un recalled capturing three puppeteers and learning about giant puppets' weakness, but admitted he had not read the full report.
  • Nara Shikahito described the prototype's mysterious appearance three years earlier and handed Shin'un the classified dossier.

Ch. 166The Giant Puppet Prototype and the Mysterious Crater

Shin'un read the intelligence file on the Giant Puppet Prototype and learned that it had been found inside a crater that suddenly appeared near Windmill Village. He suspected the crater might be connected to five other mysterious craters and planned to seek the classified report about them.

  • Shin'un sat down with tea and began reading the Giant Puppet Prototype intelligence file, noticing that he himself had supplied the first piece of information.
  • The file reported that a crater had appeared beside Windmill Village in Konoha Year 34, swallowing part of the village and leaving 221 villagers missing.
  • The surviving village chief sought help in Sunagakure, and the Third Kazekage sent Kazama Saori and then Chiyo to investigate the crater and secure its remaining villagers.
  • Chiyo identified a gigantic steel puppet in the crater, moved it elsewhere, and later named it the Giant Puppet Prototype while seeking funds to make giant puppets.
  • Shin'un read that five other mysterious craters had been found and that the 79-meter puppet had an unknown turbine-like device in its chest.
  • Shin'un resealed the file, suspected the other craters might also have appeared with something, and decided to request the classified file called "Giant Craters from the Sky."

Ch. 167The Shinobi World was very warm today

Shin'un wandered into a red-light district and fled after the women crowded around him, then asked Nara Shikahito about the final negotiations with Sunagakure. He learned that Sunagakure had accepted twelve of Konoha’s thirteen conditions, leaving Shin'un confident that the giant puppet prototype would be handed over.

  • Shin'un left Konoha's quarters to explore town and accidentally wandered into its red-light district.
  • The women outside the establishments crowded around Shin'un and offered him their services, but he used the Body Flicker Technique to escape.
  • Shin'un returned to the quarters and asked Nara Shikahito whether Sunagakure had agreed to all thirteen conditions.
  • Nara Shikahito explained that Sunagakure had accepted twelve conditions but objected to sending hostages to Konoha.
  • Shin'un concluded that the giant puppet prototype was certain to be handed over and planned to inspect it after the transfer.

Ch. 168Waiting

Shin'un reviewed reports about mysterious craters and wondered what had been found in five of them besides the giant puppet prototype. After the negotiations ended, he left with Nara Shikahito and the Konoha group, anticipating the prototype’s arrival in a month.

  • Shin'un studied the report on six enormous craters and noted that it revealed little about what had been found inside five of them.
  • Nara Shikahito announced the negotiations were over, and reminded Ebizo that Konoha expected Sunagakure’s first reparations installment in one month.
  • Nara Shikahito told Shin'un that a thousand Sand Ninja prisoners would be returned with the first installment, while he would remain in the Land of Rain for at least six more months.
  • Shin'un confirmed that the giant puppet prototype would be part of Sunagakure’s first installment and said he was eager to examine it.
  • Shin'un gave the order to move out, leading the Konoha group toward the Land of Rain while anticipating the prototype’s arrival in a month.

Ch. 169Supply storage site

Shin'un intercepted a Sunagakure scouting team and escorted them toward Konoha’s supply inspection site. The supplies had not yet arrived, but Nara Shikahito’s newly built storage compound was ready to receive them.

  • A Konoha sensor detected a six-person Sunagakure scouting team approaching and Shin'un ordered the troops to prepare to meet them.
  • A Sunagakure sensory ninja spotted Shin'un and identified him as the Konoha Lightning Lord, prompting her commander to order the supply convoy to hurry.
  • Shin'un appeared suddenly before the fair-faced Sunagakure Jonin, who reached for a kunai before realizing he was surrounded by Konoha ninja.
  • Shin'un questioned the Sunagakure Jonin about the supplies and learned that the transport convoy was following the scouting squad.
  • A Konoha Chunin reported that Nara Shikahito had assembled the troops, and Shin'un said he would lead the Sunagakure team to the inspection site.
  • Nara Shikahito’s temporary storage compound, with more than a dozen warehouses, was ready to begin receiving supplies.

Ch. 170Steel Finger

Konoha received Sunagakure’s first shipment of supplies in exchange for a thousand Sand Ninja prisoners, and Shin'un inspected the arriving Giant Puppet Prototype. The chapter ended with him identifying one of its parts as a steel finger.

  • Nara Shikahito and Shin'un watched more than a hundred wagons of Sunagakure supplies arrive at the Konoha depot.
  • Nara Shikahito allowed a Sunagakure jonin to visit the thousand Sand Ninja prisoners while Konoha inspected the shipment.
  • Nara Shikahito told Shin'un that Shimura Danzō had subjected the prisoners to brutal conditions and that more than sixty had mysteriously disappeared.
  • Nara Shikahito told Shin'un that his transfer orders had arrived, since he would no longer need to remain in the Land of Rain after the prisoner exchange.
  • Shin'un used Lightning Body Flicker to reach warehouse eight and examined a huge component beneath a wagon's tarp.
  • Shin'un recognized the cylindrical, dark-blue component as a steel finger.

Ch. 171Unfamiliar Yet Familiar Lettering

Shin'un inspected the Giant Puppet Prototype components stored in Sunagakure’s warehouse and discovered they came from the Jaeger Gipsy Danger. He concluded that the giant crater in Windmill Village had brought the Jaeger to the Shinobi World and wondered what the other five known craters might bring.

  • Shin'un told the warehouse supervisor that Sunagakure had not kept the Giant Puppet Prototype shipment secret, then asked to inspect its components.
  • Shin'un examined the stored parts and recognized the familiar lettering “Madeina” on a gear linkage shaft.
  • Shin'un found more inscriptions, including “Jaeger,” “Shatterdome,” and “Gipsy Danger,” confirming the prototype was from another world.
  • Shin'un returned to his tent and reasoned that the Windmill Village crater had brought Gipsy Danger to the Shinobi World.
  • Shin'un wondered what the other five known giant craters would bring to the Shinobi World.

Ch. 172Returning to Konoha

Shin'un attended the handover of a thousand Sunagakure prisoners, then joined Orochimaru, Tsunade, and Yūichi's team as they prepared to return to Konoha. The group set out for the village, where Tsunade planned to investigate a strange contagious illness.

  • Nara Shikahito and Shin'un watched as a Sand Ninja Jonin led the thousand prisoners back to Sunagakure.
  • Nara Shikahito told Shin'un he would remain in the Land of Rain for six months or more, and Shin'un used the Body Flicker Technique to return to the Konoha camp.
  • Yūichi told Shin'un that Orochimaru had made him sit still and read books as punishment.
  • Orochimaru agreed to leave once Shin'un reported that the prisoners had departed, and Tsunade said she needed to investigate a strange contagious illness in Konoha.
  • Orochimaru, Shin'un, Tsunade, and the others used the Body Flicker Technique to head back to Konoha.

Ch. 173This is the flu

Shin'un returned to Konoha with his group and noticed a cluster of coughing people in a caravan from the Land of Hot Water. After learning that the gate guard Watamura had also taken leave to visit Konoha Hospital, Shin'un suspected the illnesses might be connected.

  • Shin'un and the others reached Konoha after years away, and Tsunade, Orochimaru, and the rest headed into the village.
  • At the gate, Shin'un noticed several people in a Land of Hot Water caravan coughing while the other caravans showed no similar signs.
  • Yūichi told Shin'un that Orochimaru had gone to see the Hokage, Tsunade had rushed to Konoha Hospital, and the others had gone home.
  • While registering at the gate, Shin'un learned that Jonin Watamura had taken leave because he felt unwell and had gone to Konoha Hospital.
  • Shin'un left with Yūichi and privately considered the coincidence between the caravan's coughing travelers and Watamura's illness.

Ch. 174Questions in the office

Hirakawa Shin'un and Uchiha Yūichi returned to Konoha and met with Hiruzen Sarutobi, who offered them rewards and encouraged them to join the Anbu. After agreeing to join, Shin'un asked about a contagious illness in the village, and Hiruzen dismissed it as a new flu strain, leaving Shin'un suspicious.

  • Hirakawa Shin'un and Uchiha Yūichi reported back to Hiruzen Sarutobi, who praised their battlefield performance and offered them a reward of their choice.
  • Hiruzen gave Shin'un and Yūichi three days off and asked about their plans after returning to Konoha.
  • Hiruzen invited both ninjas to join the Anbu, and Yūichi agreed to join after Shin'un said he would.
  • Hiruzen said he would summon them in three days to discuss the details of joining the Anbu.
  • Shin'un asked Hiruzen about the contagious illness, and Hiruzen said the hospital had identified it as a new strain of flu.
  • Shin'un left the office troubled by Hiruzen's claim that the illness was ordinary flu.

Ch. 175The first day

Shin'un returned to Konoha and reunited with his parents before visiting Hiruzen Sarutobi to request training in Sealing Jutsu and the Chakra Sensing Technique. He learned that a strange airborne disease had appeared in the village and that Hiruzen had postponed deciding whether to impose a lockdown until he received Tsunade’s report.

  • Shin'un returned to his family's flower shop, where Toyoko Hirakawa and Shinkaku Hirakawa welcomed him home.
  • After spending the evening with his parents, Shin'un woke the next morning and headed to the Hokage Building to discuss his training needs.
  • Tsunade gave Shin'un disposable medical masks and warned him that a strange disease was spreading through the air.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi explained that he had argued with Tsunade over whether to lock down Konoha and would decide after reviewing her report the next day.
  • Shin'un requested systematic Sealing Jutsu instruction, but Hiruzen said Orochimaru had taken the village's sealing books and told him to study with his teacher.
  • Shin'un then requested the Chakra Sensing Technique from the Scroll of Seals, and Hiruzen agreed to have a copy delivered the next day.

Ch. 176The second day

Shin'un warned his family and Yūichi about an airborne illness and received the Second Hokage’s Chakra Sensing Technique from an Anbu messenger. After sensing a large number of chakra fluctuations near Konoha Hospital, he headed out, but Anbu forces imposed a village-wide lockdown and ordered him home.

  • Shin'un reviewed the Sealing Jutsu tome, then gave his parents medical masks and warned them about an airborne illness Tsunade had mentioned.
  • An Anbu member delivered the Chakra Sensing Technique scroll from the Third Hokage before rushing toward Konoha Hospital, leaving Shin'un uneasy.
  • Shin'un saw the vegetable shop owner coughing among customers, warned Toyoko Hirakawa to avoid the shop, and later gave Yūichi masks and instructions.
  • Shin'un sensed hundreds of chakra fluctuations near Konoha Hospital and set out to investigate.
  • Nearly a hundred Anbu ninja spread across Konoha, and a squad leader told Shin'un that the village was under lockdown and ordered him home.

Ch. 177The third day

On his third day back in Konoha, Shin'un realized his mother showed symptoms like those of the spreading illness and decided to seek Tsunade at Konoha Hospital. The Anbu blocked his way and threatened to brand him a missing-nin, so Shin'un unleashed his chakra and gave them one final warning.

  • Shin'un sensed battles erupting across Konoha through the night, with intense chakra still coming from Konoha Hospital.
  • At breakfast, Shin'un noticed Toyoko Hirakawa coughing, flushed, and sweating, then urged his parents to wear masks.
  • Shin'un equipped himself and left through his bedroom window, intending to go to Konoha Hospital and find Tsunade.
  • Eight Anbu surrounded Shin'un and demanded mobilization orders before allowing him to leave.
  • The Anbu captain refused to let Shin'un pass and warned that he would be declared a missing-nin if he insisted on going out.
  • Shin'un released a terrifying aura and told the Anbu to get out of his way.

Ch. 178Not a soul in sight

Shin'un fought through Konoha’s deserted streets and discovered monsters attacking the village and pouring out of Konoha Hospital. Believing Tsunade was inside, he blasted the monsters at the hospital entrance with Lightning Release: Lightning Pillar, leaving a crater in the plaza.

  • Shin'un defeated eight Anbu ninja, hid their unconscious bodies in a collapsed shop, and continued toward Konoha Hospital.
  • Shin'un saw Anbu squads fighting strange skinless monsters and noticed a disturbing odor as he approached the hospital.
  • Shin'un found over a hundred Anbu defending the hospital from a tide of many kinds of monsters and could not find Tsunade on the battlefield.
  • Shin'un concluded that Tsunade was likely inside the hospital and decided to break through the monsters outside.
  • Shin'un used Lightning Release: Lightning Pillar to erase the monsters at the entrance and blast a deep crater into the plaza.

Ch. 179Over a Hundred Chakra Signatures

Shin'un reached Konoha Hospital and learned that the Anbu defending it were infected and that the monsters could revive in new forms unless their bodies were destroyed at once. As he prepared to enter and retrieve Tsunade, Suzume learned that more than a hundred chakra signatures were approaching from across Konoha, including one from the Hokage Building.

  • Shin'un arrived at the hospital wall and discovered that the Anbu there were coughing from the strange disease.
  • Suzume explained that the monsters were difficult to kill because they transformed after being defeated, unless their bodies were destroyed instantly.
  • Shin'un confirmed that Tsunade was inside the hospital and prepared to go get her despite Suzume's warning.
  • An Anbu ninja reported that more than a hundred chakra signatures were approaching from clan compounds and streets throughout Konoha.
  • Suzume heard that another person was coming from the direction of the Hokage Building and reacted with alarm.

Ch. 180The most terrifying things were invisible to the naked eye...

Hiruzen Sarutobi and Konoha’s clans gathered at the hospital, where Suzume explained that an invisible virus had spread throughout the village and caused the strange illness. The assembled ninja learned that most healthy adults could fight it off, though prolonged exposure or bad luck could still lead to infection.

  • Fugaku Uchiha, the Hyuga Clan head, and other clan leaders arrived at Konoha Hospital with elite ninja, followed by Hiruzen Sarutobi in combat gear.
  • Hiruzen told Suzume and the assembled ninja that he had come to lead the response himself and had arranged for Orochimaru to succeed him if he died.
  • Fugaku questioned why Danzo had not joined them, but Hiruzen redirected the discussion to the danger facing the group.
  • Suzume explained that an unseen virus, smaller than cells, spread through the air and had already contaminated all of Konoha.
  • Suzume said that healthy adults could usually fight off the virus, while the elderly, sick and injured, and young children were more vulnerable.
