Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Martial Soul awakening; half a rank of innate Soul Power 1 Awakens Blue Silver Grass under Su Yuntao’s supervision and gains the qualification to cultivate.
Approximately level three 2 7 Reaches an estimated level three or higher after three months of physical conditioning and Supreme Purity Breathing Technique cultivation; later estimates his level at three while testing the academy’s meditation method.
Rank ten 17 Confirmed retrospectively when his first consumption of thousand-year whale rubber reduces his Soul Power from rank ten.
Around rank eight 17 Temporary regression after absorbing whale rubber. His physical strength increases by about twenty percent, and his meridians widen.
First-Soul-Ring bottleneck 20 After two further years of training, his compressed Soul Power cannot advance without a Soul Ring; whale rubber has also ceased providing meaningful physical improvement.
Rank fifteen; First Soul Ring 29 30 Absorbs the purple ring of a roughly 1,400–1,500-year-old Iridescent Withering and Flourishing Fern. Gains Illusory Color Concealment, stronger Life Origin, and derived grass-growth and binding abilities.
Peak level twenty 48 Thousand-year blood ginseng reforges his body and drives his Soul Power through levels seventeen, eighteen, and nineteen to twenty. Further advancement requires his Second Soul Ring.
Second Soul Ring; Soul Grandmaster 50 51 Absorbs the purple ring of the 4,500-year-old Heart-Healing Grass. Gains Scale-Leaf Light Rain, and his Blue Silver Grass evolves further.
Rank twenty-nine 54 59 Reaches rank twenty-nine before entering Heaven Dou Royal Academy at twelve. Despite two thousand-year rings, his Martial Soul’s remaining deficiencies make the rank-thirty threshold difficult to cross.
Peak rank thirty 68 Refines nine-grade purple ganoderma at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, breaking through from peak rank twenty-nine. His Martial Soul transforms, but a Third Soul Ring is still required to enter the Soul Elder realm.
Ice-and-fire tempering 73 74 75 Ice-and-fire immortal herbs greatly strengthen his physique and Martial Soul, which gains ice and fire attributes and improved elemental and poison resistance. Their accumulated potency contributes to his subsequent advancement.
Peak level thirty-eight; Third Soul Ring 74 75 Absorbs the black ring of a thirteen-thousand-year Nine-Leaf Sword Grass and releases accumulated medicinal reserves. Gains Blue Silver · Sword Leaf.
External Soul Bone fusion 76 Fuses the growable Nine-Leaf Sword Wings into his spine. Gains nine powerful sword leaves, further condensed Life Origin, and improved sword comprehension; his combat strength is assessed as sufficient to challenge or defeat ordinary Soul Kings.
Rank forty 103 Reaches the Fourth-Soul-Ring bottleneck with stable cultivation. Initially seeks a roughly thirty-thousand-year plant-type Soul Beast with exceptional vitality.
Rank forty-four; Fourth Soul Ring 114 115 116 Obtains a Tree of Eternity Soul Ring, dark green with golden patterns, and Living Spirit Domain. His Martial Soul becomes woody and tree-like, while his Life Origin and spiritual power improve substantially.
Rank forty-eight 128 129 Identifies himself as a level forty-eight Control System Battle Soul Ancestor before Ye Feng’s test. Uses his domain, sword abilities, and External Soul Bone to withstand the Soul Saint’s assessment and earn his approval.

Background / History

Transmigration and Dalin Village

Lin Yan originally lived on Blue Star, where he read Douluo Continent and related fanfiction and learned his family’s medical and martial arts. He crossed into the body of a child whose family had died during a Wolf Bandit attack. The villagers interpreted his changed behavior as recovery from his former intellectual disability; village chief Lin Daniu cared for him afterward 1 2 7.

At six, he awakened Blue Silver Grass with only half a rank of innate Soul Power. Rather than accept its reputation as a useless Martial Soul, he began investigating whether replenishing its life essence could eventually produce an evolution into Blue Silver King or Blue Silver Emperor. These remained goals, not achieved forms 1 2.

Before entering school, he produced an effective wound medicine and entrusted its sale to Lin Daniu. The business earned him at least five hundred Gold Soul Coins in three months and gave villagers income through herb gathering and sales. He taught the chief the formula before leaving for Nuoding Academy 2.

Nuoding Academy

Lin Yan enrolled through Dalin Village’s work-study quota and moved into Dorm Seven. He deliberately lost his introductory fight with Wang Sheng, using his weak innate Soul Power as a cover for his actual abilities. He also secured library work from Teacher Mo so he could research Soul Beasts, Martial Souls, and the continent 2 3 4 6.

His routine combined cleaning duties, weighted exercise, Tai Chi Fist, classes, library study, and overnight cultivation. During the work-study students’ confrontation with Xiao Chenyu’s followers, he fought Ling Feng to a negotiated draw after gaining useful combat experience 9 10.

Tang San later questioned his techniques and offered to seek Yu Xiaogang’s guidance for him. Lin Yan concealed the techniques’ origins, declined the offer, and subsequently minimized contact with Tang San. Medicine profits allowed him to become a regular student and obtain a private room 12 13.

On returning to Dalin Village, he discovered that some villagers wanted to take his twenty-percent share of the medicine profits. He surrendered the formula and future proceeds to the village, while retaining his gratitude toward Lin Daniu. He later withdrew from Nuoding Academy rather than continue its regular course 14 18.

Establishing the Hundred Herbs Shop

Lin Yan opened a pharmacy to fund cultivation, conceal his search for whale rubber, and secure a private training base. Lin Daniu helped him make the arrangements because his age would complicate renting a shop 15.

When early sales proved weak, he negotiated Spirit Hall certification and protection in exchange for twenty percent of the pharmacy’s profits. Ma Xiunuo verified the medicines, and the endorsement brought customers from Nuoding City and the surrounding area 16 17.

Over the following two years, Lin Yan developed additional remedies, studied Spirit Hall’s library, and trained with whale rubber. Once neither his physique nor ringless Soul Power could improve substantially, he entrusted the shop to his assistants and departed for the Star Dou Great Forest 19 20.

First Soul Ring Expedition

Using the alias Lin Shuo, Lin Yan joined the Boulder team as a supposed Power Attack System Soul Master. He defeated Ji Qiu without revealing his true Martial Soul or lack of Soul Rings, then contributed swordsmanship and Soul Beast knowledge during the expedition 21 22 23 24 25.

Once the group reached the thousand-year Soul Beast region, he invented a family trial and hidden protector to persuade his companions to leave. In reality, he wanted to hunt his first ring without exposing his circumstances 28.

He killed an Iridescent Withering and Flourishing Fern and absorbed its thousand-year ring, reaching rank fifteen. The result supported his theory that compatible, life-rich plant Soul Rings could improve Blue Silver Grass’s innate potential. Before leaving the forest, he rescued Han Shuirou and helped her obtain a ring from an eight-hundred-year Mysterious Ice Vine 29 30 31 32 33.

Research and Business Expansion

Back in Nuoding City, Lin Yan began researching an Intermediate Soul Master Academy as a source of knowledge, resources, and a plausible explanation for his future growth. Meanwhile, he investigated surviving fern spores and a piece of withered wood that resonated with his Martial Soul. Repeated nourishment slightly strengthened the wood’s concealed Life Origin 33 34 35 36.

To finance an auction visit, he negotiated a broader agreement with Spirit Hall. The final contract provided a one-time payment of one hundred thousand Gold Soul Coins and made him the second-largest shareholder in a Spirit Hall-backed Hundred Herbs Shop chain, with a twenty-percent profit share and rights to inspect accounts and participate in decisions 37.

Auction Pursuit and Second-Ring Hunt

At the Fasinuo auction, Lin Yan purchased three drops of spirit-clearing spring for nine thousand Gold Soul Coins and thousand-year blood ginseng for fifty thousand. A rival bidder subsequently sent pursuers after him 42 43 44.

Lin Yan ambushed and killed two Soul Elders, but could not confront the stronger group that followed: a peak Soul Elder with a Wind-Chasing Dog Martial Soul, another Soul Elder, and two Soul Ancestors. He escaped through a river, breaking their scent trail, and avoided returning to Nuoding City 44 45 46.

After recovering in a cave, he consumed the blood ginseng and reached level twenty. His initial second-ring target was approximately five-thousand-year Undying Grass, but he instead discovered a rare 4,500-year-old Heart-Healing Grass. He killed it using concealed Blue Silver Grass and Tai Chi Sword, suffering a frozen left shoulder and arm and losing his sword in the battle 48 49 50.

He subsequently absorbed its purple Soul Ring and acquired Scale-Leaf Light Rain. His Blue Silver Grass evolved again, developing a refreshing, healing presence accompanied by a trace of cold 51.

Return to Business and Departure for Heaven Dou

On returning to Nuoding City, Lin Yan learned that the newly formed Medicinal Herbs Guild had accused his shop of selling fake medicine and brought city guards to close it. Ma Xiunuo had intervened under Spirit Hall’s authority. Lin Yan suspected that the auction rival who had investigated him was behind the incident, reassured his assistants, and thanked Ma Xiunuo 53.

He proposed accelerating the Spirit Hall partnership by training its personnel to prepare medicines and opening more shops. Ma Xiunuo agreed to submit the proposal to his superiors. Lin Yan later personally instructed trainees, emphasizing sensitivity to medicinal changes rather than mechanical adherence to preparation steps 53 54.

Over the following three years, his cultivation approached the rank-thirty threshold, but Blue Silver Grass’s incomplete evolution remained an obstacle. Unwilling to spend an uncertain amount of time overcoming the bottleneck conventionally, and conscious of the future Battle of the Two Gods, he set his sights on the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well and immortal herbs 54 55.

Heaven Dou Royal Academy and the Dugu Family

Lin Yan sought an audience with Crown Prince Xue Qinghe and offered drawings of a curved-shaft plow in exchange for a recommendation to Heaven Dou Royal Academy despite his commoner status. Xue Qinghe agreed to seek admission for him if the invention proved effective 56.

During their discussions, Lin Yan revealed his Soul Master status while disguising his two purple rings as yellow. He knew that the crown prince was Qian Renxue and treated the meeting as a dangerous negotiation. By his admission to the academy, he was twelve and rank twenty-nine, with his mutated Martial Soul presented as Illusory Rainbow Ice Blue Silver Grass. Qian Renxue’s investigation uncovered his original half-rank aptitude, increasing her interest in his concealed opportunities and abilities 57 59.

After entering the academy, Lin Yan deliberately sought contact with Dugu Yan. When direct approaches proved difficult, he gradually became acquainted with her close friend Ye Lingling, then established a comfortable friendship with both girls. Once trust had developed, he raised the issue of accumulated poison in Dugu Yan’s body 60 61.

Dugu Yan later fused with a compatible thousand-year left arm Soul Bone and used Lin Yan’s method to guide some of her poison into it, relieving pressure on her meridians. She invited him to dinner with Dugu Bo, providing the meeting he had been working toward 64.

Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well and Dugu Bo’s Discipleship

Dugu Bo brought Lin Yan to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. There, Lin Yan harvested nine-grade purple ganoderma and refined it with the Supreme Purity Breathing Technique, breaking through from peak rank twenty-nine to peak rank thirty. His Martial Soul’s vitality and his perception of plants deepened during the transformation 67 68.

Lin Yan also worked on medicines to suppress Dugu Bo’s poison. Impressed by his pharmacological talent, patience, and consideration, Dugu Bo offered to teach him his poison arts. Lin Yan accepted, gaining a Titled Douluo as both mentor and protector 68 70.

After further tempering with ice-and-fire immortal herbs, Lin Yan’s physique and Martial Soul improved substantially. His Blue Silver Grass acquired ice and fire attributes, a measure of water-and-fire immunity, and resistance to a hundred poisons, approaching the rudimentary form of a top-tier Martial Soul 73 74 75.

Third Soul Ring and Nine-Leaf Sword Wings

With Dugu Bo overseeing the hunt, Lin Yan fought a thirteen-thousand-year Nine-Leaf Sword Grass. He combined Withering and Flourishing Intent with Tai Chi Sword Intent to redirect its strongest sword force, then killed it with ice-and-fire-charged Blue Silver Grass. Dugu Bo watched his victory and warned him about the Soul Shock before he absorbed the black ring 74.

The Third Soul Ring and accumulated immortal-herb reserves raised him to peak level thirty-eight. He gained Blue Silver · Sword Leaf, allowing him to turn his Martial Soul into powerful sword weapons and ranged sword leaves 75.

He also fused the growable External Soul Bone Nine-Leaf Sword Wings under Dugu Bo’s protection. Its nine sword leaves strengthened his offensive power and sword comprehension while resonating with his Martial Soul, tempered physique, and Withering and Flourishing Intent 76.

Imperial Fighting Team and Great Soul Arena Battles

After returning to the academy, Lin Yan reunited with Ye Lingling, whose companionship had developed into mutual affection. Dugu Yan recommended him to Qin Ming for the Imperial Fighting Team. Qin Ming required him to win the existing members’ recognition rather than join solely through his talent or Dugu Bo’s influence 79 81.

Lin Yan earned their approval and entered as a Control System Soul Master. Intensive coordination training integrated his precise battlefield control with Dugu Yan’s poison, Yu Tianheng’s frontal attacks, the Shi brothers’ defense, and Ye Lingling’s healing. Tactical disagreements were resolved through discussion and Qin Ming’s guidance 83 84.

The team began fighting at Great Soul Arenas, starting in Heaven Dou City and traveling south over the course of a year. During this period, Lin Yan and Ye Lingling’s relationship deepened through their combat coordination and everyday companionship 84 85.

In Suotuo City, Lin Yan reunited with Tang San, whose Blue Silver Grass was decisively inferior to his evolved Martial Soul. Tang San asked about exchanging cultivation methods before recognizing his former Nuoding schoolmate. Lin Yan’s achievements also attracted Yu Xiaogang’s interest as a possible source of research into Martial Soul mutation and innate limitations 86 88.

Against the Fierce God Team, Lin Yan initially restrained his strength so his companions could experience a desperate battle. When the opponents broke through and threatened Ye Lingling with a poisoned blade, he intervened, revealed the Nine-Leaf Sword Wings, and killed all seven enemies in fewer than five breaths 90.

The team later lost to Shrek Academy while Lin Yan was not on the field. Sun Buyu explained that dependence on Lin Yan had weakened their ability to cope independently, prompting the members to reassess their teamwork and resolve to improve 97.

Altering Dugu Bo’s Meeting with Tang San

Lin Yan warned Dugu Bo that Tang San likely possessed the Clear Sky Hammer as his second Martial Soul and was the son of Tang Hao. Dugu Bo consequently decided to visit Shrek Academy with a different understanding of Tang San’s background 100.

Lin Yan intended to prevent the original sequence in which Tang San’s dangerous encounter with Dugu Bo led to easy access to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He recognized that his intervention had changed the story’s course and that he could no longer predict every consequence. Dugu Bo subsequently reported that Tang San had impressed him with his herbal knowledge and helped him study plants at the well 100 103.

Plant Academy and the Fourth Soul Ring

After reaching rank forty, Lin Yan sought a roughly thirty-thousand-year plant-type Soul Beast with exceptional vitality for his Fourth Soul Ring. Han Shuirou’s renewed invitation offered access to Plant Academy’s specialized knowledge, and Dugu Bo approved his plan to research there 97 103.

To obtain access to the academy’s internal library, Lin Yan won three consecutive challenges against Soul Ancestors at ranks forty-three, forty-six, and forty-nine. His victories included defeating Liu Meng’s strong defense with Blue Silver · Sword Leaf and overcoming You Lan’s Ghost King Vine with Tai Chi Sword 106 107 108.

Su Wanqing granted him three days of library access. He explained that he wanted resilience, vitality, sustained combat, recovery, or domain support rather than another purely offensive skill. She recommended the Earth Dragon Sinew Vine, Endlessly Living Begonia Flower, and Ghost-Faced Demon Spider Tree as potential targets 108.

His research led to an expedition into underground ruins in the borderlands between Star Dou Great Forest and Sunset Forest. Dugu Bo provided Jade Phosphor Detoxification Pills but initially declined to accompany him while pursuing his own breakthrough. Lin Yan navigated dangerous plants, creatures, and traps, collected unusual specimens, and reached an altar containing the Tree of Eternity’s Inheritance Vessel, where three powerful life-energy guardians warned him away 111.

Lin Yan ultimately obtained the Tree of Eternity’s ring and fragments of ancient knowledge concerning life, connection, and symbiosis. He advanced to rank forty-four, and his Blue Silver Grass underwent a profound, woody transformation. His Fourth Soul Skill was Living Spirit Domain, a composite ability combining perception, recovery, support, amplification, and interference 114.

Dugu Bo escorted him back from the dangerous region, and Lin Yan consolidated his gains at Heaven Dou Royal Academy. His four rings were purple, purple, black, and dark green with golden patterns. He later returned to Plant Academy, explained that Dugu Bo had helped him obtain the ring, and demonstrated the domain’s effects before resuming tournament preparations 115 116.

Immortal Herbs and Team Captaincy

Lin Yan offered suitable strengthening gifts to teammates who chose to trust and follow him, selecting them according to their Martial Souls. Ye Lingling, Dugu Yan, and the other companions affirmed their support 118.

The team members subsequently absorbed immortal herbs, with Ye Lingling rising from level thirty-two to forty and nearly all the others also reaching the level-forty bottleneck. Lin Yan proposed organizing a Soul Hunting trip for their new rings. During this period, he and Ye Lingling kissed and agreed that he would visit her parents after attending an auction three months later 120.

Following Yu Tianheng’s departure from the team, Lin Yan became captain and directed its combat drills 125.

Heaven Dou Auction and Meeting Ye Lingling’s Parents

Lin Yan attended the Heaven Dou auction with Ye Lingling to select gifts for her parents. Xue Qinghe offered to recommend him for an imperial department position, while Ning Fengzhi offered to pay for his auction purchases. Lin Yan politely declined both offers, prioritizing cultivation and team leadership and wishing to present gifts purchased through his own efforts 126.

The following day, Ye Lingling brought him to the Ye residence, where he met her mother Su Wan and father Ye Feng. Lin Yan presented his gifts and promised to have star iron made into close-fitting armor for Ye Lingling. Ye Feng explained that a Nine Heart Begonia Soul Master’s partner needed sufficient strength to protect her, then challenged Lin Yan to withstand him for the duration of an incense stick 128.

Lin Yan identified himself as a level forty-eight Control System Battle Soul Ancestor and accepted the test against the level seventy-three Space-Rending Eagle Soul Saint. He combined Blue Silver · Sword Leaf, Living Spirit Domain, and Nine-Leaf Sword Wings under intense pressure. Although exhausted by the encounter, he earned Ye Feng’s explicit approval 128 129.

After dinner at the Ye residence and escorting Ye Lingling back to her dormitory, Lin Yan returned to his own room and opened an ancient book acquired at the auction. Its seal-script characters, dismissed by others as meaningless scribbles, were readable to him because his grandfather had trained him to read ancient medical texts. He began studying the work associated with the Supreme Purity Profound Origin Dao Scripture; no further cultivation result is established at that point 130.

Appearance

  • Early childhood: Initially scrawny; three months of training produces a sturdier body with visible muscle definition 2.
  • Before age ten: Nearly 1.6 meters tall, with a well-proportioned muscular build and wheat-colored skin. He looks approximately fourteen or fifteen despite his actual age 20.
  • Face and bearing: Handsome, with diminished childishness, a composed expression, and an occasionally sharp gaze 20.
  • Early clothing: Wears plain, coarse-cloth clothes when entering Nuoding Academy 3 4.
  • Ice-and-fire tempering: Briefly displays an icy-blue flame-like light in his left pupil and a golden-red cold star in his right when completing his cultivation; both disappear almost immediately 73.
  • External Soul Bone fusion: Azure sword-like markings appear on his skin during the painful fusion process. When manifested, Nine-Leaf Sword Wings produces nine azure-gold sword leaves behind him, which can withdraw into his spine 76.

Personality

Lin Yan is disciplined and conscious of his poor starting aptitude. He routinely cultivates instead of sleeping and treats physical training, reading, and practical combat as complementary ways to overcome his limitations. His drive for strength comes partly from knowing how helpless the original child’s family was against the Wolf Bandits 1 9 10.

He is guarded about his origins and abilities. He feigns weakness at school, refuses to explain his inherited techniques, and fabricates both an identity and a powerful family background while traveling. Although he values Spirit Hall’s resources, he avoids immediately entering its academy because he fears exposing his secrets and becoming entangled in its future conflict with Tang San 4 12 22 28 40.

His caution does not exclude gratitude or generosity. He remembers Lin Daniu’s care, rewards dependable employees, accepts his teammates’ goodwill, and helps Han Shuirou. However, he prefers not to interfere in other people’s destinies or maintain obligations that obstruct his own path 7 13 14 28 32 34.

As the stakes increase, he becomes willing to deliberately alter events when they affect his safety or opportunities. His calculated approach to the Dugu family and his warning about Tang San’s parentage show his use of foreknowledge to secure resources and reshape future encounters 55 60 61 100.

He is patient and meticulous when teaching medicine and working with teammates. He accepts tactical discussion rather than insisting on his own methods, but can also withhold his strength to force companions to confront their limitations. His protectiveness toward Ye Lingling overrides that restraint when her life is endangered 54 84 90.

Despite his mature soul and analytical confidence, Lin Yan is initially awkward at expressing romantic feelings. His relationship with Ye Lingling brings out a gentler side through quiet companionship, small gestures of affection, and an explicit willingness to shoulder responsibility for her safety 79 84 85 128 130.

He values independence even when dealing with influential patrons. He declines an imperial appointment and Ning Fengzhi’s financial support without rejecting friendly relations, preferring to concentrate on cultivation and fulfill personal obligations through his own efforts 126.

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Grass

Lin Yan develops his Martial Soul by strengthening its Life Origin, rather than prioritizing poison or conventional offensive traits 2 19 30 33.

  • First-ring mutation: Broader, thicker azure blades develop nearly invisible iridescent spores along their undersides 30.
  • Growth and binding: Can extend blades to approximately ten meters at rank fifteen; binding strength and duration depend on invested Soul Power 31.
  • Restraint capacity: Briefly restrains training objects weighing several hundred jin. These are derived Martial Soul abilities, not a separately acquired Entanglement Soul Skill 30 34.
  • Resilience: Improved recovery and resistance to harsh conditions; he uses its life force to break ice spreading along his grass during the Mysterious Ice Vine battle 30 32.
  • Potential improvement: His first ring loosens the innate barrier limiting future cultivation, but does not complete a named Martial Soul evolution 30 33.
  • Resonance: Detects a connection with fern spores and apparently inert withered wood, allowing him to recognize otherwise obscure research materials 35.
  • Second-ring evolution: Develops a refreshing, healing presence with a cold undertone after absorbing Heart-Healing Grass. By his enrollment at Heaven Dou Royal Academy, he calls the mutated Martial Soul Illusory Rainbow Ice Blue Silver Grass 51 59.
  • Ganoderma transformation: Its leaves broaden, stems thicken, and veins become clearer after he consumes nine-grade purple ganoderma. His perception of plants and their life force also deepens 68.
  • Ice and fire attributes: Following immortal-herb tempering, the grass carries golden-red and ice-blue energy and can apply both attributes in combat 73 74.
  • Elemental and poison resistance: Gains a measure of immunity to water and fire and resistance to a hundred poisons, developing the rudimentary qualities of a top-tier Martial Soul 73.
  • Fourth-ring transformation: Becomes deeper in color, jade-like, and woody, with green liquid light flowing through its veins. Its main bodies resemble small trees, making “Blue Silver Tree” a descriptive comparison rather than an established replacement name 114 115.
  • Energy conductivity: Its mutated toughness and ability to conduct energy support both sword attacks and its later domain-based fighting style 108 114.

Illusory Color Concealment

His First Soul Skill comes from the Iridescent Withering and Flourishing Fern 30.

  • Soul Ring disguise: Changes his ring’s apparent color instantly; he presents his purple ring as yellow while helping Han Shuirou 30 32.
  • Camouflage: Blends Blue Silver Grass into its surroundings and greatly suppresses its presence 30.
  • Concealed restraints: Hides grass placed around enemies before tightening it for an ambush 44.
  • Full-body application: Wraps concealed grass around himself to blend into terrain and suppress his presence 44 45.
  • Limits: Slightly affects movement speed and does not erase scent. Sensitive enemies can still detect disturbances in air, power, or nearby life 30 46 50.
  • Multiple-ring disguise: Presents both of his thousand-year rings as yellow during his audience with Xue Qinghe 57.

Scale-Leaf Light Rain

His Second Soul Skill comes from the 4,500-year-old Heart-Healing Grass 50 51.

  • Releases numerous sharp leaves in an area attack 108 116.
  • Can pressure an opponent into defending and create openings for a follow-up strike with Blue Silver · Sword Leaf 106.
  • Living Spirit Domain enhances the leaves’ speed, penetrating power, and trajectory control, allowing attacks from difficult angles 116.

Blue Silver · Sword Leaf

His Third Soul Skill comes from the thirteen-thousand-year Nine-Leaf Sword Grass and is associated with his black Third Soul Ring 74 75 106.

  • Sword formation: Condenses Blue Silver Grass into sharp swords suitable for thrusting, slashing, and Tai Chi Sword Technique 75.
  • Ranged control: Directs multiple sword leaves at distant targets in a manner resembling sword-control techniques 75.
  • Concentrated strike: Can gather his Sword Intent and Soul Power into a single leaf for a powerful finishing attack 75.
  • Longsword form: Produces an azure longsword approximately four feet long from highly compressed, layered Blue Silver Grass, with black patterns reflecting the ten-thousand-year ring’s power 106.
  • Defense penetration: Breaks through the defenses of rank forty-six Soul Ancestor Liu Meng with a precisely timed thrust 106.
  • Defensive formation: Overlaps sword leaves into a dense shield against Ye Feng’s Sky-Rending Claw 128.
  • Domain interaction: Living Spirit Domain accelerates its sword leaves, makes their paths less predictable, and increases their penetrating power 114 115 116.

Living Spirit Domain

His Fourth Soul Skill comes from the Tree of Eternity. Its ring is dark green with golden patterns, an appearance Lin Yan himself does not understand through the continent’s conventional ring-color system. The ability is also referred to as Living Spirit Sword Domain in his testing 114 115 116.

  • Initial range: Covers a fifty-meter radius 114.
  • Spirit threads: Forms nearly invisible, nonphysical threads from life force and spiritual power, creating a domain force field rather than ordinary grass restraints 114.
  • Life perception: Senses the condition of living beings within its range and establishes brief connections with them 114.
  • Recovery: Draws on surrounding plants’ vitality to replenish Soul Power or heal injuries 114.
  • Ally support: Slightly improves allies’ recovery speed and resilience 114.
  • Attack amplification: Transmits and strengthens Sword Intent and Soul Power through the threads, enhancing the speed, penetration, and unpredictability of sword-leaf attacks 114.
  • Interference: Can disrupt or weaken enemies’ Soul Power circulation and spiritual perception to a limited degree 114.
  • Measured improvements: Early testing shows Soul Power circulating roughly ten percent faster and Blue Silver · Sword Leaf moving nearly thirty percent faster 115.
  • Skill integration: Enhances Scale-Leaf Light Rain and sword thrusts and can disrupt another student’s Vine Entanglement 116.
  • High-pressure application: Lin Yan compresses its life force and combines it with Blue Silver Grass restraints and Nine-Leaf Sword Wings during Ye Feng’s test 129.

Nine-Leaf Sword Wings

A growable External Soul Bone fused into Lin Yan’s spine after the Nine-Leaf Sword Grass hunt 75 76.

  • Manifests nine azure-gold sword leaves that can attack separately or combine into a powerful greatsword 76.
  • Its sharpness and Sword Intent exceed those of the leaves produced by his Third Soul Skill at the time of fusion 76.
  • Resonates with his Blue Silver Grass, ice-and-fire-tempered physique, and Withering and Flourishing Intent 76.
  • Nourishes his spine, feeds back into his Soul Power, strengthens his Life Origin, and improves sword-related comprehension and control of Blue Silver · Sword Leaf 76.
  • Can be withdrawn completely into his spine 76.
  • Its power contributes to his ability at rank thirty-eight to challenge or defeat ordinary Soul Kings 76.
  • Helps him annihilate the Fierce God Team and later combine domain and Soul Bone power against Ye Feng 90 129.

Supreme Purity Breathing Technique

An inherited Lin family art that Lin Yan uses as his principal cultivation method 7.

  • Cultivates Soul Power faster and more comfortably than the basic meditation method available at Nuoding Academy 7.
  • Guides and refines the violent energy of whale rubber and his thousand-year First Soul Ring 17 30.
  • Provides a dense, stable Soul Power foundation that contributes to combat strength beyond his nominal rank 30 31.
  • Refines nine-grade purple ganoderma at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, helping him overcome the rank-thirty bottleneck 68.
  • Supports the integration of spiritual power, Soul Power, and Intent during his defense against the Nine-Leaf Sword Grass’s strongest attack 74.

Lin Clan Taijiquan

A hereditary combat art said by his family’s elders to descend from Zhang Sanfeng’s Wudang lineage. A Lin ancestor received its manual after saving a Wudang Daoist 7.

  • Uses softness, circular movement, and borrowed force to redirect stronger or faster attacks 10 19.
  • Helps him remain difficult to pin down while concealing his strength against Wang Sheng 4 7.
  • Counters Ling Feng’s speed and allows Lin Yan to control the pace of their match 10.

Tai Chi Sword Technique

Lin Yan trains in swordsmanship to compensate for Blue Silver Grass’s limited early offensive capabilities 19.

  • Combines circular redirection with integrated offense and defense 19.
  • Defeats Ji Qiu without requiring a displayed Soul Ring and proves effective when protecting teammates 22 23.
  • Kills two Soul Elders after concealed grass creates an opening, though the combined attack heavily drains his Soul Power and mental strength 44.
  • Uses Apparent Closing and Grasp the Sparrow’s Tail to deflect much of the Heart-Healing Grass’s freezing attack; the defense is incomplete and leaves his left shoulder and arm frozen 50.
  • Tai Chi Sword Intent: Allows him to apply sword principles without a physical blade. Combined with Withering and Flourishing Intent, Tai Chi rotation weakens and redirects the Nine-Leaf Sword Grass’s strongest attack into a mountainside 74.
  • Uses Blue Silver · Sword Leaf as a weapon for his sword art, eliminating dependence on an ordinary metal sword 75 106 107.
  • Employs Grasp the Sparrow’s Tail, Single Whip, and Cloud Hands in interlocking defensive circles against You Lan’s Ghost King Vine before winning the match 107.

Withering and Flourishing Intent
