"What's wrong?" Morris felt a little uncomfortable under that gaze.
"Never mind," Oliver said, taking off his glasses and gently wiping the lenses with the edge of his apron. "I just haven't seen a wizard in a long time."
"What do you mean?" Morris put down his fork. "You're not a wizard?"
"I'm a Squib," Oliver said calmly.
Morris suddenly realized.
That makes perfect sense.
Although Squib in the Wizarding World are aware of the existence of wizards, most of them choose to live in the Muggle World.
"It may be a bit presumptuous of me, but... may I see some magic?" Oliver suddenly spoke up. "Any kind of magic will do."
Morris could sense his cautiousness; he was probably terrified of being rejected.
Morris didn't seem to care.
Didn't they even treat him to a meal?
He took out his wand, casually pointed at the table next to him, and cast Transfiguration.
In an instant, the table transformed into a suit of armor, strode heavily to Oliver, and bowed respectfully.
Oliver stared in disbelief. "It must be quite an achievement to reach this level."
He seemed to know a little about Transfiguration.
"That's right," Morris said, putting away his wand, "It really wasn't easy."
This is the culmination of four years of hard work.
Even ordinary wizards who graduate from Hogwarts cannot reach this level.
After saying that, Morris resumed eating.
I must say, the craftsmanship of this Squib was quite good.
Oliver stepped forward, hesitated for a moment, and reached out to touch the helmet of the armor.
"I envy you guys," he sighed. "No matter how hard Squib tries, she can't learn magic."
Morris shrugged and didn't reply.
Although he wasn't Squib and couldn't fully empathize, he could at least understand the other person's feelings.
"Oh, wait a minute."
Oliver seemed to have thought of something, turned around and went into the house. When he came out, he was holding a small stick.
That's a magic wand.
"I've always taken good care of it," he said, handing the wand to Morris. "Could you take a look at it for me?"
Is its condition normal?
"Let me make this clear first, I'm not a professional wand maintainer."
Morris took the wand, glanced at it casually, and then waved it around, sending a spark flying out and exploding in mid-air.
"Hmm," Oliver murmured, "It's never reacted like this in my hands. Perhaps it shouldn't have come with me."
However, what happened next was something neither of them expected.
The wand flashed again in Morris's hand, making a sound like a branch snapping.
The sound was very soft, but both Morris and Oliver heard it.
The two looked down at the wand at the same time and found that a crack had covered the entire wand and was still spreading.
Morris swore he hadn't done anything superfluous; he'd just casually used a little spell that made it spew sparks.
Oliver reached out to take back his wand.
"Bang!"
With a soft pop, the wand exploded, scattering into tiny fragments all over the ground.
Oliver stood there, opened his mouth, but no sound came out.
"Uh..." Morris was a little surprised, "I don't think I treated it very roughly."
Oliver remained silent for a long time, then finally sighed, "It's alright, Mr. Black. I don't need it anyway."
Morris narrowed his eyes and pulled his spare wand from his pocket.
" Incarcerous!"
He used the wand to cast a binding spell on the armor beside him.
A rope flew out from the tip of the staff and instantly bound the armor tightly.
After doing all this, he carefully examined the spare wand in his hand.
No problem at all.
That probably means there's something wrong with Oliver's wand itself.
Ultimately, however, it was his actions that caused the wand to be damaged.
" Black?" Oliver asked with concern when he saw that Morris hadn't moved for a while. "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing," Morris said, regaining his composure. " Mr. Webster, I'll get you a new wand."
"Really?" Oliver's face lit up with surprise.
The wizard in front of him was much friendlier than he had imagined.
Keep in mind that the other party could simply walk away, or even go so far as to erase his memory altogether.
After all, he was just an insignificant Squib.
Yes, insignificant. At least to a proper wizard.
Morris took a miniature wooden box from the pocket of his robe, placed it on the table, and tapped it.
The wooden box rapidly enlarged, its lid popped open automatically, and dozens of wands were scattered haphazardly inside.
"Pick whatever you like," Morris said.
Most of these secondhand wands were bought for his experiments and weren't particularly valuable.
"Which one should I choose?" Oliver, somewhat bewildered. "To be honest, I have no way of utilizing their abilities."
"What if a miracle happens?" Morris said with a smile, "Magic can make anything possible. Hurry up, choose one based on your first impression, or you'll miss out."
Upon hearing this, Oliver immediately scanned the wands nervously.
Finally, he closed his eyes and casually grabbed one from inside.
It was a dark brown wand, covered with crooked patterns, and had a peculiar little protrusion on the handle.
Morris looked at it and stroked his chin.
Oh wow, that's unexpected.
"Did I pick something wrong?" Oliver held up his wand to his eyes.
"No, it's a very good choice." Morris smiled gently.
In fact, the wand the other party chose was called the " Whip Wand," a little gadget he made a long time ago.
He once gave Lockhart one.
Lockhart was absolutely enamored with this thing.
Simply press the button below to automatically draw magic from the wizard's body and conjure a bone whip that moves at the user's will.
Unfortunately, as Squib, Oliver probably doesn't have any magic power and therefore can't use this wand.
Oliver waved the wand, and sure enough, it didn't react in his hand.
But he still held the wand to his chest and said solemnly, "Thank you, Mr. Black."
Morris waved his hand. "As long as you don't pursue the matter of me breaking your wand, it's fine."
Just then, an idea suddenly popped into his head.
" Mr. Oliver, give me the wand. I'll have it fixed up."
Oliver paused for a moment, but still handed the wand back.
Morris took it, then pulled a Gap Energy Crystal from his pocket, brought it close to the handle of the Whip Wand, and muttered incantations.
Oliver only saw the small bead slowly melt into the wand, while a faint light flickered on the handle.
Two minutes later.
"That's fine."
Morris handed the Whip Wand back to Oliver. "Try it again, press the bump below."
He paused, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"Perhaps a miracle will happen soon."
