Background / History

Yang Zhentian is Yang Wudi’s son and the Breaking Clan’s young clan leader. He married Niu Jinfeng, daughter of Defense Clan chief Niu Gao. Their household initially centers on their son, Yang Podi, and later grows to include their daughter, Yang Tianyue 1 6 23.

When the family traveled to Heaven Dou City, Niu Jinfeng noticed that Podi could finally sleep without fear. Zhentian initially worried that living away from the clan would be inappropriate for its young leader, but agreed to find a way to stay for his son’s sake. He later recognized that Podi’s insistence on leaving the Clear Sky Sect before its conflict had spared the clan losses 6 36.

After testing whale rubber at Podi’s suggestion, Zhentian helped bring its benefits to the clan’s attention and explicitly credited his son with the discovery. He also conducted Podi’s Martial Soul awakening. With Yang Wudi’s approval, he publicly reported rank-eight Innate Soul Power instead of the actual rank nine, intending to protect Podi from Spirit Hall and the Clear Sky Sect 11 19 20 21.

Zhentian brought Yang Ping’an into the household after the boy’s mother died, telling him to regard the home as his own and Podi as his brother. He subsequently introduced Ping’an as one of his children when Dugu Yan stayed with the family 32 44.

Discovery of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

During Podi’s second Soul Ring expedition, father and son extended their stay in Sunset Forest and discovered the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. Zhentian became fascinated with the Aromatic Silk Beauty and consumed the nine-grade dragon ganoderma selected for him by Podi 36 38 39 41.

Although initially unhappy with Podi’s distrust of fellow clansmen, Zhentian accepted his argument that the immortal herbs required strict secrecy. He helped disguise the excavation, presented the resource-management plan to Yang Wudi and Yang Wushuang, and brought Niu Jinfeng into the secret. His efforts to withhold the remaining herbs from the elders led to repeated attempts by father and son to shift responsibility onto each other 38 39 41 42 43.

• Physique: Tall and powerfully built. Niu Jinfeng is described as scarcely smaller than him in either height or build 1.

Personality

Zhentian is protective of his children, particularly when their rapid progress exposes them to danger. In Sunset Forest, he held Podi’s hand and checked the terrain before allowing him to follow. During a later hunt, he barely rested at night so he could monitor their surroundings. He also examined Podi after an unusually rapid breakthrough to ensure that his son had not damaged his future potential 34 83 98.

His loyalty extends beyond his immediate family. When Podi questioned whether every clansman could be trusted with the immortal herbs, Zhentian angrily defended those who had risked their lives and devoted themselves to the Breaking Clan. Nevertheless, he could revise his judgment after hearing Podi’s reasoning and ultimately supported restricting access to the resources 38 39.

Family interactions often expose his pride and awkwardness. He proudly showed Yang Wudi Podi’s training plan, only to be reprimanded for overlooking safety and its wider use within the clan. He also admitted that he had disliked reading since childhood and struggled to name his daughter. Niu Jinfeng readily overrules him in domestic matters, most visibly when his joking advice about multiple wives earns him an ear-twisting reprimand 22 23 297.
