Orphanhood and Adoption

Yang Ping'an's father and grandfather died in a war involving the Clear Sky Sect. His mother later died from illness, entrusting him to Yang Wudi before her death. Yang Wudi arranged for him to live with Yang Zhentian's family and train alongside Yang Podi, hoping that he would eventually become Podi's right-hand man 31.

He entered the household at about six years old, a few months younger than Yang Podi. Initially grieving and withdrawn, he gradually became lively as the two studied, cultivated, and practiced spear techniques together. Yang Zhentian also provided guidance 32.

Both Yang Wudi and Yang Wushuang acknowledged him as their grandson. Yang Wushuang treated him as his own flesh and blood and the heir to his legacy, instructing him in spear techniques almost daily 55 56.

Training and Academy Life

After obtaining his first Soul Ring, Yang Ping'an adopted Yang Podi's habit of wearing training weights. His routine included spear practice, daily sparring, weighted exercise, and medicinal baths. Although Podi usually defeated him, the repeated bouts developed his physique and practical combat experience 44 70.

At twelve, he enrolled in Heaven Dou Royal Academy at rank 27. The academy placed him directly in the Heavenly Supreme Level and singled him out for special training attention 59 60.

He competed in the Great Soul Arena as Spear Breaks the World and formed the Soul Breaking Twin Spears Combination with Yang Podi. Early victories demonstrated his strength among Soul Grandmasters, though he and Dugu Yan later suffered repeated arena defeats 69 70 76.

When Yang Podi left the academy for an extended training journey, he entrusted team management to Yang Ping'an and Dugu Yan. Ping'an was specifically responsible for medicinal baths, physical condition, and appropriate training loads 105.

Soul Master Tournament

As Heaven Dou Second Team's vice-captain, Yang Ping'an entered the tournament at rank 51. His public introduction identified him as the only Soul King competing in the Heaven Dou region. Reaching that realm at nineteen attracted particular attention because his rank-seven innate talent was lower than that of many rival captains 137 139.

Against Skywater Academy, he confronted Shui Bing'er and Xue Wu's Ice and Snow Drifting Martial Soul Fusion Skill. His fifth Soul Skill pierced their Ice Phoenix, securing victory with Niu Meng's protection and Ye Lingling's healing. Afterward, he credited Yang Podi's training and explained that his brother sought the rise of the Breaking and Defense Clans rather than the tournament's Soul Bones 139.

During the team battle against Heaven Dou Team One, he temporarily held off Tang San, Yu Tianheng, and Tai Long together. Ye Lingling's healing sustained him while his teammates eliminated their opponents, allowing the Second Team to win without losing a member 142.

He also served as the final fighter in the advancement tournament. In the rematch against Team One, he defeated Xiao Wu using spear technique without Soul Skills, then overcame Tang San's final Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer attack through Ring Fusion. Barely able to remain standing afterward, he nevertheless broke through to rank 52 146 148.

Lethal Combat Training

Yang Podi later challenged Ping'an and six companions to expose their lack of experience in lethal combat. Ping'an rallied the group under the pressure of Divine Slaughter's Domain, but Podi exploited his high-speed approach and knocked him out of the arena 169 170.

During the campaign against bandits in their fief, Ping'an helped lead the attack on Black Cloud Stronghold. When the group hesitated over killing the bandits' elderly relatives and children, he argued that those who benefited from the bandits' resources shared responsibility. He acted on that position and later set the stronghold ablaze after the group killed nearly everyone there 179.

Sea God Island Trials

Yang Ping'an volunteered to cross the Sea Within the Sea first, splitting its intensified waves with White Tiger Destruction Kill. During his first attempt at the sacred staircase, he reached the fifty-eighth step despite using his Soul Skills and both Soul Bones 192 194.

A year of training brought him into the Soul Saint realm and gave him experience resisting domains. His tendency to volunteer first also produced a setback: on his initial Ring Sea attempt, Xiao Bai struck him unconscious and sent him back to shore. Ye Lingling treated him, and he recovered without serious injury 196.

He completed the year-long Tidal Body Tempering trial with the group. In the Fifth Trial, he defeated Sea Star Douluo by combining Tool Soul Avatar, Ring Fusion, and his right-arm Soul Bone Skill, supported by Ye Lingling's healing 201 202.

Later Advancement and Slaughter City

After returning home, Yang Ping'an underwent a painful right-arm Soul Bone replacement arranged by Yang Podi. During the preparations, he confessed his love for Yang Tianyue. He subsequently reached rank 92 and awakened the Thunder Domain 212 215.

He joined Yang Podi and Yang Tianyue in attacking Xiong Jun near the Lake of Life. The encounter ended in retreat after a mysterious dragon claw stopped Yang Podi's strongest attack 218.

When Yang Tianyue was sent to Slaughter City to develop independence, Ping'an secretly followed her, apparently intending to protect her from the shadows. Yang Podi later collected both of them from the city to accelerate their Godly Trials 260 363.

Personality

Yang Ping'an is diligent, curious, and deeply attached to his adoptive family. As a child, he constantly questioned Yang Podi about cultivation and eagerly tried to follow his training methods. Although described as having a somewhat chuunibyou personality, he consistently worked hard at both physical conditioning and Soul Power cultivation 32.

He is sociable and well-liked among the younger generation of the Four Single-Attribute Clans. Niu Meng, Tai Long, and Bai Xiaofei came to respect him through sparring, accepting him as their youngest, or “fifth,” brother 55.

His loyalty centers on Yang Podi and the Breaking Clan. He initially refuses a valuable Soul Bone because he feels he has already received too much, accepting it only after Podi frames it as the clan's investment in his future service. He promises to fight for the clan to the end 181.

His growing confidence sometimes becomes showmanship, particularly when he repeatedly volunteers to face unfamiliar trials first. Alongside this bravado, he develops a ruthless willingness to follow Yang Podi's orders, most starkly demonstrated by his justification for killing the families living in Black Cloud Stronghold 179 193 196.
