Background / History

Yang Zheng grew up in a hunting family on the Northern Cold border. Heavy snow frequently sealed the mountains, and going hungry for several days was normal. His parents saved what little they could to send him to Cloud-Leveling Hall’s admission test. He entered with a gray spirit root, hoping cultivation would allow him to protect his family and improve their lives 6 7.

Assigned to the gray-root disciples’ quarters, he met Qin Yu and worked alongside him sweeping the bamboo grove, carrying water, and hauling stones. Their shared poverty and concern for their parents became the foundation of their friendship. Yang Zheng encouraged Qin Yu despite the ridicule directed at low-grade disciples, and the two began treating one another as brothers 6 7 8.

After entering the outer sect, Qin Yu returned with a copied version of the Mystic Origin Body Tempering Art for Yang Zheng. Yang Zheng promised to persevere despite his weaker aptitude. His daily efforts eventually earned him passage through the outer sect assessment, and Zhang Hao formally announced his promotion 12 18.

Yang Zheng is straightforward, warm, and resilient. He introduces himself without shame over either his poverty or his gray spirit root. His experience of hunger makes him appreciative of simple food and shelter, and he remains cheerful through exhausting labor even when his shoulders are rubbed raw 6 7.

His loyalty is expressed through practical support rather than envy. He celebrates Qin Yu’s rapid progress, promises to keep his secrets, and insists that differences in aptitude or status will not change their brotherhood. His original desire to protect his parents later extends to Qin Yu and Zhao Xinyu, whom he calls his family 8 9 11 43.

Although stubborn in defense of others, he can distinguish courage from needless risk. He withstands Zhou Yuan’s superior cultivation without yielding, yet accepts a planned concession against Liu Hongzhuang when fighting her would endanger both himself and Cloud-Leveling Hall’s chances 32 34 35.

He is easily excited by new opportunities, fine food, and signs of recognition. His delight in his first outer sect robes contrasts with his nervousness around senior disciples and the grandeur of White Cloud Sect 18 25 28 39.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Shadow Woods Expedition

Yang Zheng joins Qin Yu’s six-person squad and draws his sword when Pure Fragrance Garden demands their spirit herbs and beast core. The opposing woman’s flames overwhelm his defense and leave him coughing blood. After the squad escapes, Qin Yu treats him with a spirit pill 21 22.

He subsequently guards the others while they gather herbs and helps lead companions toward safety. The squad returns with the expedition’s richest harvest, and Qin Yu divides its rewards equally among all six members. Yang Zheng is confirmed at initial entry into the Spirit Awakening Realm afterward 23 24.

Great Yan Continent Inter-Sect Tournament

Yang Zheng defeats Cloud Waves Gate’s Zhou Yuan despite beginning a full major realm below him. Pushed to his limit, he breaks through to Spirit Awakening Realm greater accomplishment and wins with the Heng Mountain Sword Art, earning recognition from the crowd and Cloud-Leveling Hall’s elders 32.

During the later matches, he rushes into the arena to deflect Huo Caixu’s spear and protect the defeated Zhao Xinyu. He then follows the team’s strategy by conceding against Liu Hongzhuang rather than risking her enchantment. After Cloud-Leveling Hall becomes champion, he receives rewards and accompanies Qin Yu and Zhao Xinyu to White Cloud Sect 34 35 38.

White Cloud Sect and the Immortal Vein Ruins

Yang Zheng becomes a White Cloud Sect outer disciple assigned to Heavenly Splendor Peak, with a residence near a waterfall and spiritual pool. He cultivates there before entering the Immortal Vein Ruins alongside Qin Yu and Zhao Xinyu 39 40 41.

In the ruins, he helps withstand the Flame-Upholding Guardian Beast and receives its core from Qin Yu. He then enters the dragon-guarded cave with Zhao Xinyu while Qin Yu draws the guardian away. Reunited, the three battle the black dragon; Yang Zheng disrupts its attacks and suppresses a claw while Zhao Xinyu delivers the killing blows 41 42.

During their recovery, he tests the Crimson Firmament Sword and Thunder Flame Battle Art and joins his companions in an oath of mutual protection. Deeper in the ruins, the golden ancient road forces successive breakthroughs, culminating in initial entry into the Yuan Transformation Realm and the manifestation of a mountainlike Fate Soul 43 50.
