After Shen Heng awakened Hearing Enhancement by killing a Mutilated Hound, he joined the Linhai City Supervision Bureau to seek a cure for Xu Yuqin’s Weak Breath Disease. He began training while balancing school and family debts, then accompanied the squad to a suspected Calamity Beast scene but was left above ground as the others searched the sewers.
Shen Heng advanced to First Tier, strengthened his body, and joined his first official mission to hunt a Calamity Beast that moved invisibly along a building’s exterior. He helped Han Ling kill it with a plan built around his hearing and a timed recording, then received a large share of the points.
Shen Heng repaid his debt, began saber training, and confronted attacks arranged by Gu Zexuan before a Tier 3 Decaying Spore outbreak struck his school. He helped evacuate the students while fighting Spore People, and ended the stretch with only three bullets left and a request to find Le Gu Nan.
Shen Heng helped stop a Spore outbreak at his school, then supported Le Gu Nan’s decision to remain in Linhai and began developing his Origin Power control. The story left him fighting Stone Fire Ants at Hi Nest, where Yan Sheng and Fan Qimei’s group remained in danger.
Shen Heng developed Flow, taught the Spirit-Gathering Array, and attended a headquarters meeting where he encountered the Capital’s powerful ability users. He later joined Wang Hai to investigate unexplained deaths at the Haiguang Sub-Bureau, where a suspected Calamity Beast continued to strike and fear drove staff away.
Shen Heng stopped a Calamity Beast from killing Wei Leyang, evolved his sound ability, and was selected for the Capital’s first training camp. At 07 Military Base, he met his roommate Zhou Xuan and joined the recruits’ first assembly, where Chang Lei reprimanded those who arrived late.
Shen Heng endured the camp’s punishing exercises and used his sound ability to secure a place in the advanced Origin Power rooms. As the camp’s theory program ended, Li Daoyi arrived to teach the trainees combat skills while Yan Yu investigated a surge of Origin Power near the Western Polar Ocean.
Shen Heng developed Vibrating Blade and led his team through the final simulation as the Calamity Beasts grew more dangerous. He and Xiao Xiangtong killed a Dragon Armor Beast, then gathered allies while the lightning ring closed in.
Shen Heng returned from training camp, grew stronger, and helped defeat a pack of Calamity Beasts at Red Leaf Mall. As a colossal beast’s appearance revealed the danger of another world, the government disclosed the truth and announced plans to prepare the public for cultivation.
As Calamity Beast threats spread and Xu Yuqin’s illness worsened, Shen Heng trained new martial artists and searched for a Firmament Breath Beast that might help treat her. He and Le Gu Nan lured the beast down in the Qi Mountains, but it recovered from their attack and tried to dodge.
Shen Heng helped Le Gu Nan save Tao Man’s child, then joined the Longzhou Supervision Bureau’s hunt for the Golden Rat and killed it after the first trap failed. Back in Linhai, he began learning Sevenfold Force, while Le Gu Nan cured Xu Yuqin’s Weak Breath Disease and Shen Shuning prepared to awaken her ability.
Shen Heng investigated disappearances at the seafood market and uncovered Qiu Rui’s connection to the shape-changing Calamity Beast Shadow Erosion. After the team attacked it, Shadow Erosion’s Pain Resonance incapacitated everyone but Shen Heng, who remained behind to hold it off while Fan Hong evacuated the injured.
Shen Heng killed Shadow Erosion, evolved his ability to hear and influence living creatures, and learned that Dahuang had secretly cultivated and hunted Calamity Beasts. As Shen Heng adjusted to his new power, Yu Jingming attended Lei Zhijian’s gathering, where Lei announced a new role for martial artists in Linhai.
Shen Heng balanced Bureau duties with his family and teammates as new threats emerged and Yu Jingming died after forcing an awakening to protect his family. Lin Xiaoyu joined Mei Duo’s Thorn Squad to hunt Sharp-Horned Rats, and the arc ended with Wang Hai calling the Bureau to a meeting about the growing danger.
Shen Heng and the Supervision Bureau uncovered a Sharp-Horned Rat colony and faced its assault on Linhai, while Wang Hai fought the matriarch at a cold-chain center. The center’s leaking ammonia tanks threatened a catastrophic explosion, and Shen Heng ordered the evacuation of the entire city.
After the cold-chain center disaster kills Wang Hai and Wu Cheng, Shen Heng becomes director of the Linhai City Supervision Bureau and reaches the Fourth Tier with an unusual Configuration. The arc ends as Calamity Beasts strike six locations across Linhai and Shen Heng’s team races to respond.
Shen Heng defeated the Bone Porcelain Puppet, then investigated the nature of his Configuration as the Ruins Realm’s overlap with Blue Star intensified. The arc ended with officials confronting the danger of Light Gates and an enormous gate appearing above Lanikai Island.
Shen Heng left Linhai to join the fight at the Plateau Erosion Zone, where he and his team repelled a major Calamity Beast assault at the cost of lives. As the authorities prepared to extract resources and brief the public, Mei Duo promised the Thorn Squad a salary so they could keep cultivating while hunting was suspended.
Shen Heng helped establish a base inside the Erosion Zone as Calamity Beasts gathered for a massive assault. After nuclear strikes reduced their numbers, the surviving beasts reached the walls, where Han Ling and the inspectors fought to hold the defenses.
Shen Heng used his sound-based ability to turn the beasts against one another, then helped the base test the Erosion Zone’s limits with a nuclear strike. After the strike nearly destabilized the zone, he suspected the beasts were managing a fragile balance as the story moved toward a directors’ meeting.
