Chapter 2
The servant hurriedly replied respectfully, "Sir, Madam has been recovering very well."
"Mm."
Silence followed. The couple were less close to each other than they were to the servants and barely had anything to say when they met.
After agonizing for a while, Su Wanqiao still went down the stairs, putting a lovely smile on her beautiful face. "Huaiyan, you're back."
The original owner had always been delighted whenever her villain husband came home, wishing she could rush over to greet him immediately. Her characterization was so distinct that, although Su Wanqiao could not manage that much enthusiasm, she still had to maintain it so she would not affect the rest of the plot and could get her divorce smoothly.
"Mm."
As Fu Huaiyan rose to go upstairs, he did not even look at Su Wanqiao, merely giving a faint nod in acknowledgment. His indifferent attitude was arrogant to the extreme.
Although Su Wanqiao knew what the villain was like, she still could not help grumbling inwardly.
[Heh. You don't come home once in eight hundred years, and when you finally do, you wear that bitter-melon face, as if someone owes you money.]
"..."
The man about to head upstairs suddenly froze midstep, his gaze turning toward the stairs.
Fu Huaiyan swept his slightly cold gaze around, then looked at Su Wanqiao again with a somewhat strange expression. Even his indifferent facade cracked a little.
Although his face betrayed neither pleasure nor anger, those beside him could sense that something was indeed off.
Fu Huaiyan almost thought he was seeing things. The moment that voice rang out, a text bubble resembling one from a messaging app appeared above the woman's head, with the exact words displayed inside.
[Why is the villain suddenly looking at me like that? Doesn't he know how scary his eyes are?]
The woman before him looked a little nervous, her expression somewhat odd, yet he heard no sound at all.
Fu Huaiyan's eyes suddenly widened. He stared at Su Wanqiao without blinking, inwardly horrified, fixing his gaze on her as though trying to verify whether what he had seen was real.
Only after a long while did he shift his sore eyes and look again. This time, there was no text above the woman's head.
Fu Huaiyan frowned, wondering whether staying up too late working overtime had made him see things.
He rubbed between his brows, paid Su Wanqiao no further attention, and continued upstairs.
Once Fu Huaiyan had gone upstairs, Su Wanqiao breathed a sigh of relief. She turned, intending to return to her room, when she heard the butler speak respectfully in front of her.
"Madam, I've already had the kitchen start the ginseng soup you previously arranged for Sir."
"Ginseng soup??"
Su Wanqiao's first reaction was to wonder when she had arranged that. But seeing the butler's utterly certain expression, she suddenly realized that this had been the original owner's arrangement.
The two rarely saw each other to begin with. To attract Fu Huaiyan's attention, the original owner had instructed the servants to have the kitchen prepare ginseng soup the moment he returned, then delivered it herself. It was nothing more than an excuse to approach him openly.
Although this accomplished nothing and earned her not the slightest attention from the villain, the original owner had always persisted. In any case, whether he responded did not matter. It was best to maintain the original owner's characterization as someone deeply in love with the villain and keep him from growing suspicious before the divorce.
At that thought, Su Wanqiao nodded in agreement. She would deliver it to Fu Huaiyan herself, in keeping with the original owner's characterization.
The kitchen finished simmering the ginseng soup.
Carrying the tray, she slowly went upstairs and knocked on Fu Huaiyan's bedroom door. She waited for quite a while without hearing any movement inside.
She paused for a moment.
Then she knocked again.
There was still no sound.
Su Wanqiao figured that since Fu Huaiyan was not answering, she would go in, leave the ginseng soup, and leave. Delivering the soup would count as completing her task, regardless of what he thought.
The bedroom door was unlocked and opened with a gentle push.
It was very quiet inside, with the curtains partly drawn.
Imitating the original owner's tone again, she said softly, "Huaiyan, I had the kitchen make you some ginseng soup. Remember to drink it."
Her voice faded, but there was no movement inside.
She heard no response from the man at all.
Su Wanqiao was inwardly speechless and simply went straight in to put the soup on the table.
Just as she entered, the sound of running water in the bathroom suddenly stopped. The man emerged with a bath towel wrapped around him, revealing a tall, lean physique with perfectly proportioned muscles.
Her gaze froze for an instant, and even her movement to set down the soup bowl faltered briefly.
But she quickly recovered, the tips of her ears flushing slightly. Feigning composure, she turned her face away as if nothing had happened, her expression blank.
At that moment, Fu Huaiyan saw a speech bubble suddenly pop up above Su Wanqiao's head. The words inside were the complete opposite of her calm expression.
[Ahh, this man's body is amazing! He actually has eight-pack abs. Let me slurp, slurp, slurp, slurp...]
"..."
Chapter 2
The atmosphere was somewhat awkward.
Fu Huaiyan had no way of ignoring the conspicuous line of text above Su Wanqiao's head.
What was more, it was in bold Song typeface at an enormous font size. Anyone who was not blind could see it perfectly clearly.
This time, his gaze lingered on Su Wanqiao for a long while, as though he were considering what exactly was going on. All these words had appeared above Su Wanqiao's head, yet he had heard no actual sound. They could very well be her true inner thoughts.
At that possibility, Fu Huaiyan could not help staring at Su Wanqiao again. Seeing her utterly expressionless, unruffled face, he felt another wave of doubt.
The woman looked completely serious. If he had not seen the words above her head, he would truly have struggled to imagine that her real thoughts were like this.
Fu Huaiyan gave Su Wanqiao another searching look, hastily draped another bath towel over himself to cover his firmly muscled upper body, and hurried into the walk-in closet, as though afraid of being even a second too slow.
Su Wanqiao was puzzled too. Why the rush? I hadn't had my fill of looking yet.
