Background / History

Marriage and Succession

Su Chengjing was the son of Su Wei and Lin Xiwen. At twenty-eight, his lack of interest in dating prompted his mother to arrange a meeting with Ye Jin. He appreciated her respect for his boundaries and work, while she considered his wealth, looks, and frequent absences ideal qualities in a husband. After marrying, he continued spending most of his time at the office 1 2.

Following Su Wei’s death, Su Chengjing took charge of the Su Group. Xie Haoyu, who blamed the Su Family for his own family’s bankruptcy, exploited the recent leadership transition by arranging Su Chengjing’s kidnapping during an overseas business meeting 2.

Previous Life and Rebirth

In Su Chengjing’s previous life, he escaped captivity but returned to a family and company already overwhelmed by Xie Haoyu’s schemes. Su Yang had seized control of the Su Group, and Su Chenglan remained attached to Hou Yuanwu despite his betrayal. Su Chengjing awakened in the past after his kidnapping, already imprisoned on an island in the Pacific Ocean. Using his previous experience, he escaped earlier than before, inadvertently leaving before the rescuers sent by Lin Xiwen arrived. Return to the Su Family

Expecting to find the household in crisis, Su Chengjing instead discovered that his family had stabilized the Su Group and identified its enemy. Su Chenglan had also broken away from Hou Yuanwu. These changes left him relieved but bewildered about how much had improved without him 65 66.

After returning to work, he joined Lin Xiwen in planning against Xie Haoyu. When he caught a private investigator following him, he learned that his mother had hired the investigator to check whether he was cheating on Ye Jin. Their subsequent discussion confirmed that both could hear Ye Jin’s thoughts 68.

Lin Xiwen also explained that their lives followed a novel in which the Su Family had been assigned villainous roles. Having personally experienced the disastrous previous timeline, Su Chengjing reacted with particular anger before refocusing on revenge and protecting their changed future 69.

Courtship and the “True Love” Misunderstanding

Ye Jin believed Su Chengjing had encountered a destined lover during his escape and expected him to request a divorce. In reality, although a woman had helped him in his previous life, he had been preoccupied with saving the Su Group and had not pursued romance. His new route home avoided that woman entirely; an older businessman from Hua Country helped him instead 65 66 69 72.

Su Chengjing tried to reassure Ye Jin through gifts and greater attentiveness, but she interpreted these gestures as preparation for divorce or compensation for an affair. Unable to reveal that he could hear her suspicions, he struggled to explain himself. Lin Xiwen refused to resolve the misunderstanding for him, insisting that he prove his loyalty himself 72 73.

He eventually took Ye Jin to one of the islands he had given her and arranged a romantic meal. There, he explicitly promised that she was his only partner and that he would never betray her. Ye Jin accepted that she had mistaken her assumptions for facts, ending the misunderstanding 86 87 88.

Plane Sabotage and Action Against Xie Haoyu

As Xie Haoyu’s company approached bankruptcy, Su Chengjing warned Ye Jin about possible retaliation and assigned her four bodyguards, with at least two accompanying her during rotations 84 85.

Despite these precautions, their plane suffered a sabotaged electronic failure after the island trip. Believing they might die, Su Chengjing confessed that he had felt affection for Ye Jin when he agreed to marry her and had grown to care for her. She stopped him and insisted that they discuss it after surviving 88 89.

Unknown to Su Chengjing, Ye Jin’s system repaired the malfunction. He checked the cockpit, arranged an emergency landing, and chose to return home by high-speed train. He also covered the medical expenses and compensation of two injured flight attendants 89 90.

After bringing Ye Jin home, he immediately resumed action against Xie Haoyu. He gathered evidence and told her that the police had opened an investigation; roughly a month later, police received approval to arrest Xie Haoyu 90 92.

Mutual Confession

After losing access to Ye Jin’s thoughts, Su Chengjing became even more cautious about expressing himself. His fear of misunderstanding her or being rejected delayed his confession for more than half a year 92 98.

On Ye Jin’s birthday, he reserved the sky restaurant atop City A’s tallest building but again hesitated. Ye Jin finally spoke first, acknowledging his faults while praising his sincerity, fidelity, and the comfort she felt with him. They agreed to support each other throughout their lives, and Su Chengjing promised to be a good partner and father 98.

His confidence at work contrasts sharply with his romantic hesitation. He studies romance films and novels to prepare an island date, yet struggles to state his feelings directly. After his interrupted confession aboard the plane, fear of rejection prevents him from resuming the conversation 87 92 98.

He is loyal, generous, and increasingly attentive toward Ye Jin. He rejects the idea that a woman deserves condemnation for considering a partner’s financial circumstances, recognizing Xie Haoyu’s resentment toward her as petty and narrow-minded.
