Background / History

Decline and Partnership with Xu Jintang

The Ice Soul Dragon had cultivated to the tenth tier, a realm no other divine beast in the world had reached. As his lifespan neared its end, his strength declined sharply, leaving him vulnerable to humans seeking his dragon bones, flesh, and blood. He fled, searching for a human whose sea of consciousness could accommodate him 3.

In Blizzard Forest, he offered Xu Jintang strength in exchange for shelter within her mental sea. He began modifying her before she had explicitly agreed, replacing her bones and flesh with his own, cleansing her body with refined dragon blood, and replacing her skin with his scales. His soul then settled inside her, while the energy she could not yet absorb remained stored in her body 1 3.

The arrangement bound their lives together. He became the ice component of her ability and warned that revealing his presence would make her a target: her transformed body was itself a heavenly treasure 4.

Training and the Federation Hunt

The dragon added ice to Xu Jintang's original slowing domain and awakened her dormant star-attribute Scales Ability. He also helped her inspect her mental sea before she could normally do so herself and offered basic guidance for her first inscription attempts 4.

During winter break, he supervised her training against Flowing Fire Lizards in Blizzard Forest. He forced the lizards from their caves, explained their weaknesses, and taught her to use the superior quality of his ice attribute against their flames 7 8.

Meanwhile, Federation experts searched for him, officially fearing a dying divine beast's retaliation. Jiang Shiyi questioned those motives, pointing out that hunters coveted his flesh and blood; their supposed ability to help humans reach the tenth tier was circulating as a rumor 17. Public panic also drove fire-attribute inscription prices to at least three times their previous level 18.

Return to Extreme Cold Forest

To obtain a ten-thousand-year snow lotus, the Ice Soul Dragon manifested a tangible body and flew Xu Jintang to Extreme Cold Forest. They first visited his former cave, where she collected fifty-eight kinds of spirit plants. His years of bathing there had transformed an ordinary pool into an ice-energy reservoir that nourished rare plants 88 89.

At the mountaintop, his divine aura cowed the Green-Membrane Archaeopteryx, Vajra Giant Tiger, and Snow Scale Snake Woman, allowing him to claim the mature lotus. The Archaeopteryx nevertheless noticed his weakened state and pursued them 89.

When the Archaeopteryx seized Xu Jintang and demanded the dragon's treasures, her Scales Ability suppressed the attacker and imposed a contract. The Ice Soul Dragon, surprised by the scales' power, accepted the Archaeopteryx as a new neighbor in the mental sea. Exhausted by the confrontation, he withdrew to recuperate before guiding Xu Jintang's absorption of the lotus in the ice pool 90.

Renewed Exposure and the Giant Mammoth

While helping Xu Jintang escape the Blazing Flame Lions, the dragon released enough power for an advanced satellite to identify his aura. The resulting alert renewed Federation concern about his whereabouts and intentions 261 268.

In the Land of the North Sea, he reunited with his old friend, the Thunder Dragon King, and arranged help with Xu Jintang's cultivation. He later invited the Thunder Dragon King to join them in her expanded sea of consciousness 277 278.

The Giant Mammoth eventually exposed his hiding place by attacking Xu Jintang and demanding that the dragon emerge. Taking control of her body, the Ice Soul Dragon fought with amplification from Gu Xiuwen's Star Compass. Although he inflicted heavy blows, the Mammoth deliberately prolonged the fight, knowing Xu Jintang's meridians could not withstand the power indefinitely. The supplied account ends with her body nearing collapse and no resolution to the battle 337 338.

Appearance

  • Dragon form: An enormous dragon covered in icy scales that refract sunlight with a cold glimmer; his speech releases waves of cold air 1.
  • Soul form: A miniature dragon that circles above Xu Jintang's ice-blue mental sea. His external manifestation can also shrink small enough to rest on her shoulder 4 89.
  • Human form: A handsome young man in lake-green robes, with a refined bearing. Xu Jintang first sees this form during his reunion with the Thunder Dragon King 277.
  • While controlling Xu Jintang: An ice-blue dragon phantom appears behind her, blue light flickers in her pupils, and scales cover her arm 337.

Personality

The Ice Soul Dragon combines pride in his divine-beast status with a pragmatic desire to survive. He openly admits that sheltering within Xu Jintang serves his own interests, but considers the transformation he gives her a genuine opportunity. His haste can be overbearing: he begins the painful procedure before securing her agreement 3.

As a mentor, he appreciates talent without encouraging complacency. He is privately impressed by Xu Jintang's rapid inscription progress, yet tells her to guard against arrogance and impatience. His confidence in his own ice power is much less restrained—he declares that no one at her tier can defeat her Domain of Ice 5 9.

He generally remains composed around hostile beasts and is willing to retreat when necessary. The Giant Mammoth's knowledge of his hiding place produces a rare moment of panic 89 90 337.

Abilities & Skills

  • Extinguishes the Blazing Flame Lion commander's fireball and scatters surrounding attackers 261.
  • Leaves lasting ice energy in his surroundings; repeated bathing transformed his former cave's pool into a source of cold and spirit-plant nourishment 89.

Divine Aura and Bloodline Suppression

Retains a divine beast's oppressive presence despite losing his original body 8 89.

  • Forces Flowing Fire Lizards from underground caves for training 8.
  • Uses a roar carrying a mental attack to make low-tier beasts prostrate themselves and compel three eighth-tier beasts to yield 89.
  • Allows Xu Jintang to intimidate an opposing Frost Demon Bear with his aura 169.
  • Risks discovery whenever that aura escapes: high-tier ability users and satellite systems can detect it 20 261.

  • Is limited by his host's endurance; he states that even ordinary ninth-tier experts might not withstand his full power 338.
  • Together with the Thunder Dragon King, protects Xu Jintang completely from the soul-seizing attack effect she encounters 296.

Relationships

  • Thunder Dragon King — Old friend. Helps train Xu Jintang and accepts the Ice Soul Dragon's invitation to share her mental sea, where the two reminisce together 277 278.
  • Green-Membrane Archaeopteryx — Former attacker turned fellow resident of Xu Jintang's mental sea. The dragon jokes that his voluntary partnership gives him higher status than the Archaeopteryx's forced contract 90.
  • Giant Mammoth — Longstanding enemy whom he defeated and spared years earlier. The Mammoth returns seeking revenge and exploits the limits of Xu Jintang's body 337 338.
  • Gu Xiuwen — Battlefield ally who helps Xu Jintang release the dragon and amplifies his host body with the Star Compass 337.
