Ye Mo and Thor teamed up to break the enemy encirclement
The wind was still blowing, and the translucency in Ye Mo's right hand hadn't completely faded. He sat on the edge of the rooftop of the shopping mall ruins, his knees slightly bent, his left hand supporting him on a broken concrete slab beside him. The electric fence clearing operation had given him a jolt, and his Mental Network felt like an overstretched rubber band, taut and painful.
Thor stood in the center of the plaza, Mjolnir planted firmly on the ground, his chest heaving. He didn't turn around, but he could sense that Ye Mo was still there.
That's enough.
Ye Mo took a deep breath and narrowed the scanning range. He no longer scanned the entire block, but only focused on the area within thirty meters of Thor. Nerve signal fluctuations, muscle contraction frequency, heartbeat rhythm—these details were more accurate than the images. He knew that the Chitauri liked to take turns attacking, feigning a retreat before launching a surprise attack.
Sure enough, three streams of energy approached from different directions.
"Three o'clock, seven o'clock, eleven o'clock, a triangular pincer attack, a feint retreat followed by a real attack."
He simply pushed this stream of consciousness out.
Thor didn't move, he just raised his hand to wipe the dust off his face. The next second, he suddenly took half a step back, his shoulder slumped, as if he was exhausted.
This is the moment the enemy has been waiting for.
Three squads leaped from behind cover, their gun barrels flashing red. But as soon as they landed, Thor suddenly looked up, pushed off with his feet, and soared into the air. Mjolnir swung into the sky, dark clouds churned, and a bolt of lightning struck the handle. In the instant the arc of electricity exploded, he swept it out, the electric net spreading out in a fan shape, knocking down all three enemy lines. Their armor smoked, they twitched a few times, and then lay still.
Ye Mo's lips twitched.
This person is quite good at pretending.
He looked down at his right hand; the transparent part was slowly returning to its original color. He could use the Regenerative Phasing once more, but he dared not try it lightly. The block he took against the wall earlier had already made his ribs numb; if he took another attack head-on, he might really fall apart.
There was some movement in the distance.
An assault vehicle emerged from a side street, its tracks crushing shards of glass, its cannons aimed at Thor's back. At the same time, two aircraft flew low overhead, preparing to flank him.
Ye Mo immediately locked onto the trajectory. "Fire from behind, two aircraft in the air to encircle and flank, arrive within five seconds."
Thor didn't respond, but he turned and slammed the hammer on the ground. Electricity crawled along the ground, cracking the asphalt and forming a ring of electricity. The assault vehicle had just opened fire, and the shells were still in the air when the arc of electricity interfered with their direction, causing them to miss.
The aircraft swooped down, and Thor leaped to meet it. He threw his hammer, caught it in mid-air, used the momentum to spin, and kicked the cockpit of the first aircraft. The second aircraft tried to escape, but Thor pulled it back and slammed it to the ground.
Boom!
Flames erupted, and fragments flew everywhere.
Ye Mo squinted as he surveyed the battlefield, noticing that the enemy was beginning to retreat in batches. It wasn't a rout, but an orderly rotation. New squads were filling in from the rear, while the older ones were dragging the wounded back. They were playing a war of attrition, trying to wear down Thor's stamina.
He frowned.
This style of play no longer relies on prediction.
He closed his eyes, lowered his Telepathy frequency, and tried to connect with something more ancient. Memories of runes he had encountered in the Asgard ruins suddenly surfaced, and a system notification sounded in his mind: [Detection of a basic rune resonance fragment activated].
He probed out following this frequency, and sure enough, the low-frequency oscillation that had been bothering him weakened a bit.
An invisible line appeared in my field of vision.
Extending from the fractured front of the mothership, it connects to a point on the ground. The gravity is not naturally formed, but artificially guided. The energy patterns are familiar, like the "World Tree Anchor" in Asgard mural.
He paused for a moment, stunned.
This thing shouldn't be on the battlefield.
He immediately condensed a stream of encrypted consciousness, preparing to send it to Thor. But before he could send it, he caught a glimpse of something unusual in the southeast corner of his eye.
Five Chitauri soldiers rushed out, strapped with incinerators—self-destruct units. They were reckless, heading straight for the city center complex.
Ye Mo stood up, his Steel Bone Body instantly activating. The skin on his right arm hardened, gleaming with a metallic sheen. He jumped off the roof, his knees sinking as he landed. Before he could recover, he raised his hand and smashed the flying explosive canister.
Bang!
The jar deformed in his palm, sparks flying. He squeezed it hard, and the internal structure collapsed; it didn't explode.
But the impact also sent him staggering back a few steps, his left shoulder slamming into the broken wall, letting out a muffled groan.
"Thor!" he shouted, "Southeast corner, five men with ignited fuses!"
Thor turned around at the sound, no longer summoning lightning. He spun Mjolnir at high speed and hurled it, creating an electromagnetic tornado in the air that twisted the air and sucked up all the metal debris on the ground. The five suicide soldiers were caught halfway through their charge and lifted into the air, as if grabbed by an invisible hand, and flung towards the abandoned factory area.
Boom boom boom!
Three explosions followed in quick succession, creating fireballs in the no-man's-land.
Dust and smoke rose, and the ground shook.
Ye Mo steadied himself by leaning against the wall and caught his breath. His right hand began to turn transparent again, this time starting from his fingertips and moving upwards. He clenched his fist and felt his bones were a little loose.
Thor walked back, the tip of his hammer hitting the ground. His breathing was still heavy, but his eyes were clear. He glanced at Ye Mo's right hand, then looked at the blast zone.
"They don't want to win," Thor said. "They want to stall."
"I know," Ye Mo nodded, "Someone is controlling the pace from behind."
Thor frowned. "Who?"
Ye Mo didn't answer. He raised his left hand, pointing to the broken front of the mothership in the sky. "That gravity isn't random. It's connected to a coordinate system, just like the ' World Tree Anchor ' in the Asgard Forbidden Land."
Thor's expression changed.
Are you sure?
"I just tested the rune frequency, and the shielding is weaker," Ye Mo said. "This is no coincidence. Someone is using Asgard technology to tug at the mothership; their purpose is unclear."
Thor stared at the gravitational line for a few seconds, then suddenly raised his hand and plunged the hammer into the ground. An electric current flowed into the ground, briefly forming an induction coil. A few seconds later, he withdrew his hand.
"You're right," he said. "I can feel it; it's not a natural force."
The two remained silent for a moment.
Sporadic gunfire could still be heard in the distance, but the main force had been scattered. The remnants of the Chitauri were fleeing, some running towards the portal, others hiding in the corners of the ruins. They could not mount an effective attack in the short term.
Ye Mo leaned against the wall, the transparency in his right hand finally receding to his wrist. He moved his fingers; they could still move. His Mental Network was still functioning, albeit a beat slower, but it hadn't collapsed.
Thor stood still, hammer handle in hand, his gaze sweeping across the square. He knew he was safe for the time being, but a bigger problem was just beginning to surface.
"That Anchor," Thor began, "If it's actually activated, it won't just be pulling the mothership."
"It can also open passages," Ye Mo added, "Leading to any place in the Nine Realms."
Thor glanced at him. "You expected this all along."
Ye Mo didn't deny it. He knew from the first day he transmigrated that this world wasn't so simple. The system wouldn't bind to him for no reason, Mutants abilities wouldn't just fall away, and Asgard runes wouldn't just happen to take effect when he needed them.
All of this is connected.
Just as he was about to speak, his right hand suddenly felt cold.
A sense of translucency returned to my arm, this time more quickly. The veins were clearly visible, as if they might snap at any moment.
He looked down at his hands.
This time, it might be more than just walls that they're wearing.
