Background / History
Childhood and Sect Training
Luo Chaoge grew up in the Luo Household, whose estate stood close to the Qi Clan’s in Anding City. The two families had maintained friendly relations for generations. She and Qi Yan were playmates for roughly two or three years, calling each other “Chaoge” and “A-Yan” 4.
At seven or eight, she entered the Resounding Sword Sect, one of Tianliang Continent’s strongest sects. She subsequently spent most of her time there and rarely returned home. Although she occasionally saw Qi Yan, their childhood familiarity faded into the formal address of “Miss Luo” and “Young Master Qi” 4.
Taking Over the Qi Clan
Returning home at Foundation Establishment Perfection, Luo Chaoge intercepted Qi Yan after the upheaval within his clan. He recognized that the Luo Household wanted the weakened clan’s properties and inheritance, and negotiated his cooperation rather than resist an intervention he could not prevent 4.
| Negotiated condition | Luo Chaoge’s response |
|---|---|
| Protect the Qi Clan’s collateral branches and make arrangements for them | Agreed 4 |
| Let Qi Yan leave within three days | Could not guarantee the exact deadline, but promised not to delay him deliberately 4 |
| Repair the ancestral tombs and move his parents into them | Agreed 4 |
| Help him travel to Heavenly Prefecture Continent | Accepted the request, though the later threat to Anding City prevented her from escorting him far 4 13 |
With Luo Chaoge and the Luo Household’s elites supporting him, Qi Yan became clan head and ordered the remaining main lineage eliminated. The takeover was completed before other local powers could intervene. Its public justification presented Luo Chaoge as helping her “childhood sweetheart” resolve an internal clan dispute—a deliberate exaggeration of their actual relationship 4 5.
She accompanied Qi Yan to the ancestral burial ground, initially hoping to find something useful for her breakthrough. However, she refused to dig through the surviving burial goods merely for personal gain. She also suggested that Qi Yan try the Resounding Sword Sect’s entrance selection; he declined, unwilling to burden her with his reputation 5.
Assassination Attempt
While overseeing the transition, Luo Chaoge brought Qi Yan food and agreed to ask her household about a jade pendant design and the sound “Yan,” unknowingly assisting Jiang Jinyue’s search. She acknowledged that some Luo Household members wanted Qi Yan dead, but assured him that her own word still carried weight 8.
When household members attacked the scripture library, Luo Chaoge rushed to stop them. Qi Yan escaped through a prepared blood restriction, and an assassin used the explosion to strike at her distracted back. Jiang Jinyue caught the incoming sword between two fingers, having agreed to protect Luo Chaoge at Qi Yan’s request 9.
Luo Chaoge ordered the disobedient household attackers arrested under family law. Examining the assassin’s abandoned sword, she identified an Extreme Dao Sect connection and disclosed her master’s suspicion that the sect served the Demon Realm. Jiang Jinyue then helped locate the fleeing assassin 10.
Settling Worldly Ties
Luo Chaoge pursued the assassin, Lü Xiang, and fought an Early Golden Core elder who intervened. Despite remaining at Foundation Establishment, she gained the advantage in their first exchange. When Lü Xiang attempted to attack from behind, Qi Yan disrupted him with a poison-transferring curse, while Luo Chaoge’s prepared sword qi pierced him 12.
She had not entered the confrontation without support: Qin Poxu was waiting for the Nascent Soul protector Lü Xiang had summoned. Her master killed that protector and captured the Golden Core elder. When Qin Poxu told her to deal with Qi Yan’s witchcraft, she defended Qi Yan’s intention to help her, even invoking their supposed childhood romance 12.
Qin Poxu then corrected her understanding of his instruction to settle her worldly ties. She had tried to secure the Luo Household’s prosperity so that she could leave without worry, but its members’ greed and betrayal had only entangled her further. He emphasized that their sect did not demand severing emotions or family bonds: the real obstacle was the dishonorable conduct threatening her sword heart. Her understanding triggered her Golden Core breakthrough 12.
Parting with Qi Yan
After reaching Golden Core, Luo Chaoge promised to look after Qi Yan’s remaining clansmen and ancestral graves. Unable to escort him away because of the demonic sect’s plans for Anding City, she supplied him for his journey and gave him her storage ring 13.
Later reports credited her with a brilliant performance when the Resounding Sword Sect destroyed an Extreme Dao Sect base. News of her breakthrough before nineteen astonished listeners, and reportedly shook even her own sect 13.
Appearance
Luo Chaoge is a young woman with a dashing, valiant bearing. Her heroic grace becomes particularly striking when she fights with her sword 4 12.
- Clothing: Fitted martial attire 4.
- Hair: Worn in a ponytail 4.
- Accessories: Leather-and-bronze clasps around her wrists 4.
- Beauty: Described as a peerless beauty, though Qi Yan initially pays little attention because of his precarious circumstances 12 14.
Personality
Luo Chaoge values keeping her word. She treats her household’s unauthorized attempt to kill Qi Yan as an attack on her own integrity, rather than excusing it as protection of family interests. Her restraint at the Qi ancestral graves likewise shows that she will forgo potential cultivation benefits rather than disrespect neighboring ancestors 5 10.
She is straightforward and generous, but initially struggles to separate responsibility toward her family from enabling its ambitions. Her frustration with people’s aggression and pursuit of profit reflects the conflict that Qin Poxu eventually helps her resolve 8 12.
Her attitude toward witchcraft is more measured than that of many older cultivators. Although she finds its curses and sacrifices sinister-looking, she judges its use chiefly by the practitioner’s conduct. She warns Qi Yan about public hostility toward it rather than condemning him outright 13.
Abilities & Skills
Sword Cultivation
Luo Chaoge follows the Resounding Sword Sect’s martial sword path and possesses a Sword Spiritual Root. Her cultivation emphasizes astral qi, distinct from the flesh-and-blood strength developed through Qi Yan’s witchcraft 5 6 41.
- Her specialized sword path makes the Qi Clan’s Daoist cultivation methods incompatible with her own practice 5.
- At Foundation Establishment Perfection, she forces an Early Golden Core opponent backward in a direct exchange and makes him resort to a magical treasure 12.
- Her Golden Core breakthrough produces sword intent that rises into the clouds 12.
Sword Radiance and Sword Qi
- Splits an incoming black-light attack with an upward slash 12.
- Uses a sword seal to divide her sword radiance into ten thousand rays against a bone-shaped magical treasure 12.
- Merges the radiance into a single enormous blade for a concentrated strike 12.
- Prepares sword qi against Lü Xiang’s attempt to flank her while she fights the Golden Core elder 12.
Tactical Preparation
- Anticipates that the failed assassin will summon stronger support after encountering Jiang Jinyue 12.
- Coordinates with Qin Poxu rather than pursuing the enemy without preparations 12.
- Recognizes the Extreme Dao Sect’s connection to an abandoned sword, providing a lead into the wider threat 10.
Equipment / Items
- Longsword — Her principal weapon, used for direct combat, sword qi, and large-scale sword-radiance attacks; no name is provided 4 12.
- Storage ring — Originally her own; given to Qi Yan when she learns he lacks a storage item 13.
- Spirit stones and pills — Supplied to Qi Yan as travel funds and cultivation resources. The pills include Body Refining Pills suited to tempering the physique 13 15.
Relationships
- Qi Yan — Childhood playmate and later negotiating partner. Their renewed connection develops into mutual assistance and appreciation. The “childhood sweethearts” claim begins as political cover; later exchanges become awkwardly suggestive, but neither treats it as an established romance 4 5 12 13.
- Qin Poxu — Master and sect leader. Protects her from the shadows and provides the clarification that enables her Golden Core breakthrough 12 13.
- Jiang Jinyue — Saves her during the assassination attempt and helps trace the assassin. Luo Chaoge, in turn, uses household contacts to assist her search 8 9 10.
- Luo Household — Her birth family and an early beneficiary of her cultivation success. Its members’ willingness to betray her promises becomes central to her need to settle worldly ties 4 10 12.
- Lü Xiang — Extreme Dao Sect assassin who targets her, flees after Jiang Jinyue’s intervention, and is later pierced by Luo Chaoge’s sword qi 9 11 12.
