Making Money and Returning to Pewter Gym

After resting for a while and feeling more or less recovered, Tetsuya retrieved Combusken and headed out to turn in the three missions along the way.

After all, he still needed to train his Pokemon in the afternoon. He could not afford to slack off in the slightest.

The final settlement came to a total mission bounty of 220,000.

Not bad. Adding the 4.8 million contributed by that Pichu, he had made a full 5 million today.

Was it really all about strength? Tetsuya thought as he headed toward Viridian Forest for training.

Setting aside the unexpected windfall from Pichu, based on today's efficiency and earnings, if he planned things properly, he could make nearly 700,000 in a full day of normal missions. That was equivalent to his income from an entire past month.

So that afternoon, while Pidgeot and Combusken worked hard in Viridian Forest to complete their training goals, Tetsuya planned out his schedule for the next four or five days.

First, four hours of focused training in the morning, from six to ten. Then he would return to the Pokemon Center to eat and rest, pick up missions, and set out again at around eleven.

He expected to return from Mt. Moon or Viridian Forest at around two in the afternoon to regroup, then complete another round of missions.

The second return should be sometime after five in the evening. After dinner, he would begin regular training at the Pokemon Center's training ground.

At around ten at night, he would return to his room, read through the materials provided by Pewter Gym for a while, then rest.

After revising the plan for a period of time, Tetsuya realized this was probably the limit.

"But if I use Pidgeot for the round trip, I should be able to save about half an hour over two runs."

Rubbing his chin, he felt somewhat tempted.

That extra half hour could prevent overly long missions from disrupting his schedule. It could also be used for more training, or for him to rest a little longer.

It seemed like a pretty good choice.

Tetsuya felt that, for the benefits brought by that precious half hour, controlling his fear a little did not seem like much of a problem.

He would have to fly around sooner or later anyway. Experiencing it now was better than experiencing it later.

Thus, starting the next day, Tetsuya began using Pidgeot as a utility Pokemon and started a money-making life centered around four locations—Viridian Forest, Mt. Moon, the Pokemon Center, and the Bounty Hunter Center.

Oh, no, there was also the Black Market Acquisition Point.

After all, even an Elite Level Pokemon without any particular strengths could still fetch a price.

Although not many Wild Pokemon reached the Elite Level, he encountered quite a few over those five days, and sold them all at the acquisition point.

In other words, he had earned 11 million in five days?

Even though he had spent nearly 1 million over the past few days, he still had a net income of 10 million.

Tetsuya was momentarily stunned. He had earned nearly a quarter of the price of a Fire Stone just like that?

Thinking about it, though, it was not all that abnormal.

That income had been determined by many factors. An ordinary Trainer could not possibly achieve it.

First, the Pokemon Center's High-Level Treatment had saved Tetsuya a great deal of time spent waiting in line, waiting for treatment, and paying treatment fees.

Without that treatment, his efficiency would have dropped considerably, while his expenses would have increased.

At the same time, his Bounty Hunter mission privileges had also been raised by one level. Otherwise, the B-rank Missions might not have been affected, but before becoming a B-rank Bounty Hunter, he would not have been able to accept three C-rank Missions at once.

His efficiency would have fallen by more than half again. After all, there were not that many B-rank Missions available. It was not like he could accept one whenever he wanted.

Second, although the income seemed high, nearly half of it had actually come from Pichu. Luck could not be treated as a normal circumstance.

Third, and most importantly, Tetsuya had Zero to identify the levels of Wild Pokemon.

This was genuinely important. Without equipment in the wilderness, ordinary Trainers could not accurately judge this either.

So they avoided directly encountering and fighting Wild Pokemon unless they were their targets or there was no way to avoid them.

Otherwise, if they could not win or got injured, it posed a major threat to their lives and safety in the wild.

Tetsuya did not have that concern. As long as he could ensure both sides' combat strength, he could obtain the greatest possible profit.

Those four Pokemon whose strength had only just entered the Elite Level were the best proof.

Otherwise, if he kept Hiding and only searched for his mission targets, he would be lucky to encounter even one in ten or so days.

After all, if a mission target's group was too large or too strong, and he could not defeat it to complete the mission, he would have to give up and search again.

Finally, Tetsuya himself had grown stronger. With Combusken and Pidgeot, he could handle most Elite Level Pokemon, at least in Viridian Forest.

Because of the terrain at Mt. Moon, Pidgeot was still rather inconvenienced.

Only by combining all of the above factors could Tetsuya achieve such exaggerated earnings.

Otherwise, even a Trainer with the same strength as Tetsuya, while maintaining the same training intensity and cultivation expenses, would earn at most around 100,000 over those five days.

That would already count as the Trainer having fairly good luck.

But under normal circumstances, he could not keep doing this either. He had just gotten a little carried away.

Tetsuya began reflecting on himself.

After all, with training and battles every day, there was not much time to rest. Not only was there the question of whether his body could endure it, but both Pokemon were visibly showing fatigue, and their condition had declined somewhat.

Most of the time, it was better to balance work and rest. Training one day and doing missions the next was more reasonable, and it would not have much impact on his income.

Following that plan, he would stay in each city for about a month. Eight Gyms would take eight months, leaving about one month for training, which would put him right in time for the opening of this year's Indigo Plateau Conference.

His Main Team would also take shape much faster.

The main issue was that Tetsuya had underestimated the speed at which his Pokemon improved. Pidgeot aside, the higher its level became, the harder it was to improve, so it had basically not changed over these four days.

Combusken, meanwhile, had gained another level through its constant battles and training over those four days. It was now level 27.

At this rate, by the time he left Pewter City, Combusken would probably have broken through to the Elite Level.

When he checked it, he saw a message from Brock asking whether he had set out yet.

Looking at the time, there were only thirty minutes left. Tetsuya hurriedly set off. Being late was never good.

He replied to Brock that he was already on his way, then jogged all the way to the entrance of Pewter Gym, where Brock was already waiting.

"Sorry, sorry, I'm late." Tetsuya felt a little embarrassed.

"No, there's still some time. I was just a little impatient." Brock said with a squinting smile.

"Since you're here, come in with me. We'll check on my Geodude first, then talk about the thing I'm giving you."
