Background / History

Pidgeot is first shown fighting alongside Tetsuya as a Pidgeotto in Viridian Forest. It used Whirlwind, Gust, and Quick Attack to help repel a Beedrill swarm, then received treatment for its injuries after the battle. Their coordinated responses already showed an established trainer-partner bond 1.

Later accounts identify it as the Pidgey hatched from an egg Tetsuya bought based on Zero’s assessment. The hatchling was unusually large, physically gifted, and capable of using the inherited Dragon-type move Twister. Tetsuya believed this inheritance and its exceptional physique may have come from Dragon-type ancestry 5.

Tetsuya trained it conservatively until it evolved into Pidgeotto at Level 18, then invested heavily in its development through bounty missions, specialized exercises, and battle practice. It evolved into Pidgeot shortly after helping capture four Butterfree in Viridian Forest 5 9.

After reaching the Quasi-Elite Four tier, Pidgeot’s advancement slowed despite continuous improvements in flight, energy control, and combat skill. Sutian’s Pidgeot taught it to stop merely accommodating the wind and instead blend into it, a key step toward its eventual Champion breakthrough 340 341 344.

Pidgeot achieved its Champion-level breakthrough against Nobuhiko’s Machamp when Tetsuya recognized that he had to entrust himself to his partner as fully as Pidgeot entrusted itself to him 411. It was later remade by Ho-Oh’s Sacred Fire in Burned Tower, undergoing a rebirth-like transformation that granted it Fire-type techniques and the potential to use Sacred Fire itself 418.

Appearance

Pidgeot was already far larger and sturdier than an average member of its species upon evolving. Its original Pidgeot form stood 1.85 m tall and weighed 45 kg, compared with species averages of 1.5 m and 39.5 kg 9.

• Brown feathers, a cream-colored body, eagle-like proportions, and a long red-and-yellow crest 9.
• After absorbing Sacred Fire, it grew to 2.36 m and 72 kg without losing speed or agility 418.
• Its Sacred Fire transformation created a long crimson central crest feather and red-to-yellow gradient tail feathers 418.

Personality

Pidgeot is proud, sharp-tongued, and fond of provoking opponents. It enjoys luring foes into traps, taunting them from the air, and asserting its dominance when weaker Pokémon attempt to submit to it 68 77 413.

Despite calling itself Tetsuya’s “elder” and sometimes avoiding routine guard duty, it is dependable when needed. It readily takes on dangerous reconnaissance, carries Tetsuya across long distances, and accepts demanding training plans when it sees a chance to grow stronger 81 409.

It also has a childish collecting habit: after solo flights, it often returns with branches, stones, or other miscellaneous objects that it insists are valuable. Its only notably valuable find was a Shiny Rattata 116 413.
