Chapter 10
Song Xiaozhu's brow twitched at what she heard.
It was not because the names of these "classes" were so blunt and straightforward, but because several of them sounded very familiar.
For instance, "Excavator" was the achievement she had earned after synthesizing the "Simple Hoe."
And "Hunter" was the achievement she had earned after synthesizing the "Hunter's Skinning Knife."
There was also "Purifier," which she had likewise earned after synthesizing "Low-pollution Water."
Song Xiaozhu had no corresponding recipes for "Physician" or "Warrior," but "Lumberjack" very likely corresponded to the "Simple Axe." Once she synthesized a simple axe, she would most likely earn an achievement too.
Was there some connection here?
Or was it simply a coincidence?
Considering Li Siyuan's identity, Song Xiaozhu thought a coincidence was unlikely.
Could this "Damaged Synthesizer" be something Eldest Miss Li had brought out of the Holy City's number one financial conglomerate?
Unfortunately, even after searching through all the memories in her head, Song Xiaozhu found no relevant information.
Qiu Shuyu continued, "Basically, the names of the 'classes' correspond to their abilities. For example, Master Bai has excellent medical skills, and Boss Mu has extensive logging experience. With one swing of his axe, he can fell a Scots pine twenty or thirty meters tall
..."
Song Xiaozhu sucked in a breath. Now that really was a "Lumberjack."
The other "classes" also had bonuses corresponding to their names. When she reached "Warrior," Qiu Shuyu's lashes trembled, and her voice grew a little quieter. "For 'Warriors,' their abilities take quite a few different directions, but they're all very good at killing."
Song Xiaozhu noticed the change in her expression.
Without giving her a chance to ask about it, Qiu Shuyu asked her instead, "What's your ability? I'll help you match it to a 'class,' though I don't know that much myself."
Song Xiaozhu was momentarily speechless. How was she supposed to explain this...
Was there a class called "Synthesist"?
Probably not.
Besides, she had no desire whatsoever to reveal the existence of the "Synthesizer." It very likely had something to do with Li Siyuan, and Han-Tang Technology, which stood behind her, was the Holy City's number one financial conglomerate...
Song Xiaozhu did not want to get mixed up in those muddy waters in the slightest.
Recalling what had happened when Song Xiaozhu used her ability, Qiu Shuyu ventured, "Could it be 'Purifier'? Shang Bao's body and clothes, hmm..."
Song Xiaozhu's eyes lit up. "Purifier" sounded great. She would not mind pretending to be one. It sounded both safe and high-class.
But Qiu Shuyu's very next words were, "No, you didn't purify them. You turned them into other things..."
Song Xiaozhu's dream shattered.
She hated how little she knew, and how late she had learned it.
Qiu Shuyu's heart sank, and a hint of pity entered her gaze as she looked at Song Xiaozhu. "Um..."
Song Xiaozhu caught it immediately. "It's all right, Shuyu. Whatever you've thought of, just tell me."
Qiu Shuyu smiled awkwardly. "There's actually another 'class.' Um... I forgot to mention it just now."
"What 'class'?"
"Artisan..."
Song Xiaozhu blinked. That sounded pretty good. Why did Qiu Shuyu look as though she felt terribly sorry for her and wanted to comfort her?
Even Qiu Shuyu's voice softened. "Well... 'Artisan' covers a broad range, a little like 'Warrior,' but all 'Artisan' abilities have to do with making things. Tools, furniture, clothes, for example... Cooks count as a type of 'Artisan' too..."
Her voice grew quieter and quieter, but Song Xiaozhu listened with keen interest.
"Artisan," huh...
She knew perfectly well that she was not an "Artisan," but she could pretend to be one!
Qiu Shuyu cleared her throat and said tactfully, "Actually, I've always thought being an 'Artisan' was pretty good. Find a steady
job, dedicate yourself to learning a craft, and you can still make a decent living..."
As she spoke, Qiu Shuyu found herself unable to continue. Anyone who had obtained an awakening stone-who would settle for that?
Song Xiaozhu nodded emphatically. "That's right. I'm an 'Artisan'!"
Qiu Shuyu: "..."
She did not even know what to say to comfort her anymore.
So-called "Artisans" were only a tiny bit better than ordinary people. If they did not work hard to hone their craft, ordinary people could even surpass them.
In the fortress, being an "Artisan" was roughly equivalent to not having awakened at all.
Some arrogant awakened people had even proposed abolishing the "Artisan" class designation and simply declaring it a failed awakening.
Song Xiaozhu looked at Qiu Shuyu eagerly. "Shuyu, tell me more. I want to learn more about my class."
Qiu Shuyu looked straight into the girl's large, glistening eyes, and her heart overflowed with sympathy.
What a cruel twist of fate.
How could such an earnest, hardworking, brave, and responsible girl have awakened as the lowest-ranked "Artisan"?
Unwilling to accept this on her behalf, Qiu Shuyu thought it over carefully. "You aren't necessarily an 'Artisan.' Although I've never met one, I've never heard of them turning corpses into other objects either..."
Song Xiaozhu gave her no chance to dwell on it, declaring firmly, "No, I'm an 'Artisan.'"
Qiu Shuyu: "..."
Song Xiaozhu was brimming with confidence. "Because I can make tools!"
Qiu Shuyu: "..."
What should I do? Once Xiaozhu fully understands what being an "Artisan" means, she'll burst into tears!!
Chapter 10
Song Xiaozhu could read emotions. She could see what Qiu Shuyu had left unsaid and knew that this "Artisan" was most likely the absolute worst class among the awakened, bar none.
It did not matter. Keeping a low profile was exactly what she wanted.
Besides, this class fit the effects of the "Synthesizer" very well. Once she learned more, she would surely be able to pass herself off as an "Artisan" even better.
"Artisans" were weak-what did that have to do with her, Song Xiaozhu?
Never mind that she was not an "Artisan." Even if she really had worked painstakingly to obtain a rare awakening stone, only to awaken the lowest-ranked "class," she would not lose heart.
It all came down to human effort. A "class" could not determine everything.
