Chapter 17
"Quest A: plunder 10 humans. Rewards: 5 Quantum Coins, 10 repair points. "Quest B: complete 10 transactions with humans. Rewards: 10 Quantum Coins, 5 repair points."
Chapter 17
The barrage of notifications startled Song Xiaozhu, who had just woken up, with a jolt.
Good grief...
She had only slept for one night. How had the "Synthesizer" suddenly exploded with activity?!
Luckily, her memory was pretty good. Otherwise, she really would not have remembered all those notifications that had sounded in her head at once.
Song Xiaozhu sat cross-legged on the bed in a meditative pose, carefully thinking over what she had heard.
Yesterday, she had made a storage box and earned the "Spatial Master" achievement, which meant she had met the necessary condition to trigger the repair quest. But why had the notification only come today?
Did this "Synthesizer" have a delay?
Song Xiaozhu summoned the "workbench" and looked at the information panel at the top-
Damaged Item Synthesizer. Level: 1. Experience: 51. Quantum Coins: 4. Repair points: 10. Random synthesis attempts: 0. Unlocked recipes: Simple Hoe, raw wood material, raw stone material, Simple Storage Box, Simple Skinning Knife, low-contamination water, Simple Axe, edible simple meal, Simple Pickaxe, medicinal raw material. Unlocked achievements: Level-One Unlucky Player, Level-One Digger, Level-One Hunter, Level-One Purifier, Level-One Logger, Level-One Cook, Level-One Mineralogist, Level-One Spatial Master.
Ten recipes, eight achievements.
Setting "Unlucky Player" aside, the other seven each corresponded to a recipe, while [raw wood material] and [raw stone material] had no corresponding achievements. Presumably, [Medicinal raw material] did not have one either.
Of the repair quest's three conditions, the last was relatively easy. As long as she found a way to obtain any medicine and synthesized one portion of [medicinal raw material], she would meet it.
As for the first two...
She was quite short on experience. Song Xiaozhu had also figured out how experience accumulated.
Each of the ten recipes corresponded to ten experience points.
For things like [raw wood material], [Raw stone material], water, and simple meals, she had made them so many times that she had long since maxed each one out, for a total of 40 points. Synthesizing more after that had not increased her experience.
As for the remaining four tools, she had not made many because she lacked raw materials, so they had only earned her 6 points altogether. The last 5 points had come from the Crude Storage Box.
The little box really was something special. Making it just once had added 5 experience points.
Song Xiaozhu was good at mental arithmetic and soon had her answer:
Looking at it this way, I still need to make one little storage
box, plus over forty tools. Converted into [raw materials]... yes, I have to go to the logging site. Otherwise, gathering that much wood and stone will work me to death on Garbage Mountain.
The repair quest required 20 repair points.
She had earned 10 points for completing a growth quest last time. Now she needed to complete another.
A new growth quest had also been triggered. It was still a "multiple-choice question," still a choice between two options.
"Quest A: plunder 10 humans. Rewards: 5 Quantum Coins, 10 repair points; "Quest B: complete 10 transactions with humans. Rewards: 10 Quantum Coins, 5 repair points."
After two growth quests, Song Xiaozhu could see something fishy. Both A quests were quite aggressive. Last time, it had told her to kill an "intruder." This time, it was even more unreasonable, outright telling her to rob people.
Quest B was much more normal. Last time, it had been to get out of danger; this time, it was to complete 10 transactions.
Plunder and trade...
Well, some merchants' trades were not much different from plundering.
Song Xiaozhu certainly would not choose Quest A. Never mind that she was a model, law-abiding citizen at heart-even if she really wanted to "rob the rich to help the poor," she would need the combat strength for it.
Anyone who could survive on Garbage Mountain could either fight, run, or both fight and run.
With her puny frame, she would be lucky if other people did not plunder her, and she wanted to plunder them?
She would have to be tired of living.
But this time, while Quest B offered plenty of Quantum Coins, its repair points had been halved.
Even if she completed this growth quest, she still would not have enough repair points. She would be 5 points short of the repair quest's requirement.
Would she have to wait for a third growth quest?
But its trigger conditions were a mystery. She had no idea when the next one would come.
The notification sounded again, urging her to make a choice.
Song Xiaozhu stopped hesitating and promptly chose Quest B.
Robbing people was out of the question. She could only do a little business with them.
She had already been thinking about her "first pot of gold" anyway. Completing the quest would just happen along the way.
As for the remaining 5 repair points, there was no rush.
While Qiu Shuyu was still asleep, Song Xiaozhu quickly took a simple meal and put it into the little box to see whether food could stack in storage.
Like the low-contamination water, the simple meal had no outer packaging and flowed straight into a slot. Fortunately, each had a little number 1 beneath it.
They can stack!
Song Xiaozhu felt reassured.
The little box only had five slots. The first two currently held [raw wood material], while the next two held the simple meal and water. Song Xiaozhu hesitated over the last slot before putting that bag of "fertilizer" inside.
A number 1 also appeared beneath the "fertilizer."
It could stack too.
Song Xiaozhu had never opened that bag of "fertilizer." After all, it had been randomly synthesized from Shang Bao's corpse. Even if it was now perfectly ordinary fertilizer, Song Xiaozhu still felt a little traumatized. Until she needed to use it, she had better not look.
Looking at it this way, five slots were still too few. They had filled up so easily.
Fortunately, she had enough Quantum Coins to make another little box.
She wondered how many little boxes could be attached to this "workbench." If she could hang a whole ring of them around it, there would have to be seven, eight, nine, or ten...
Ahem. What a beautiful sight. Song Xiaozhu could hardly wait!
Song Xiaozhu hid the big hoe. Actually, it would not matter if Qiu Shuyu saw it. She could just say she had secretly made it early that morning. After all, everything Qiu Shuyu knew about "artisans"... depended entirely on what she made up.
